1:41 gives me chills every time I hear it-so good!
Ditto!
Simply fantastic Edward!!!!! Lots of new good ideas! Thank you!!!!!
Looks like you're havin' fun, Ed!
Agreed, Bill!
My favorite instrument
The hit on Firebird shook the camera! 😂
BOOM!
I'd been watching TH-cam "Gran Cassa" videos for over an hour when I came across this one. I was thrilled by actually seeing the percussionist perform bits from my favorite 'warhorses' (though I wouldn't tag the Bartók with that moniker). However, the lower octave seems to be missing from the audio. I had to make sure my subwoofer was still on, as the "visceral" was missing here. That was the only thing lacking, other than that, "Bravo!"
This is great
Ed is the man!
In your experience which are the mallets that produce the most force on the bass drum? To reach the biggest sound... Cause in Spain we play the Bass Drum out in the streets in "Moros y Cristianos" a regional festival like "Fallas" and we need a looooud sound. We need mallets to apply our strength.
0:42 Also is there a particular reason why Ed is playing those (less) bigger strokes on the drum on the right? Is it because that drum has tighter heads(as Verdi intended for the Dies Irae) than the one on the left?
Yes the drums are at a different pitch! You can check out the whole class here:

6:00 What mallets are those? A pair of Al Payson Sostenutos as big rollers as well big legato strokes? Love Ed's playing as usual!
-A friend of Joe Pereira, Jason Ginter, Aziz Barnard Luce and a few other of your esteemed colleagues
Not 100% sure but Ed's email is available to our members! You could also try him on Korean Orchestral Percussion Facebook page by sharing this video there and asking :)
Which are those metal bass drum mallets?
You can check out the post description for all mallet choices! They are Abel inspired steel pipes mallets. You can find them online from Amy Putnam or make your own!
