Great playing and tutorial!!! (I remember preparing this for an all-state audition back in high school!) PS. Love the Book of Travelers photo!! I'm performing this incredible set of songs with my brilliant colleague a few times this season.

Matt once gave me a hot pepper in Baltimore when he drove me to the train station to head back to NYC. I will never forget how damn HOT it was! Great to see Matt damn near close to 25 years later.

In your experience which are the mallets that produce the most force on the bass drum? To reach the biggest sound... Cause in Spain we play the Bass Drum out in the streets in "Moros y Cristianos" a regional festival like "Fallas" and we need a looooud sound. We need mallets to apply our strength.

I'd been watching TH-cam "Gran Cassa" videos for over an hour when I came across this one. I was thrilled by actually seeing the percussionist perform bits from my favorite 'warhorses' (though I wouldn't tag the Bartók with that moniker). However, the lower octave seems to be missing from the audio. I had to make sure my subwoofer was still on, as the "visceral" was missing here. That was the only thing lacking, other than that, "Bravo!"

Ed, This is so outstanding! I remember fondly our time together trying to make the Boston Crusaders respectable. Hearing your story was a revelation. I never knew. You, an English major starting music school at 26. I was. journalism major who started music school at 28. This is the smallest of worlds.I am SO proud of you and consider you a lifelong fried (from afar.)
