The DAC can suck a lot in some laptops. Hearing about the SD Card, that seems most optimal. Might be interesting to compare the two, maybe the DAC has some lofi effect.
@@spvidz No doubt bro, you have helped me with my SP-404A more than you know and prayerfully I'm gonna go on Ebay next weekend and get a 303, and watch even more lol!🙏🏾✊🏾
This doesnt work on the apollo. Been 3 days and noo sound. Do u think it could be the apollo interface not allowing the signal to come thru? I tried everything I know to get the signal TO the computer and no luck.. :(
Hey man, thanks for all the content & knowledge, really great channel. Just starting dipping my toes in the sp world and I do have what might be a dunce question haha. Say I want to rout signal from laptop to sample into the sp, and hear what I'm sampling back into monitors at the same time,, all running through an interface without having to unplug one way to the other, am I not going to get feedback? hope that makes sense...
Its hard to say without actually being there and seeing what gear you have but tbh if I wanted to do that I probably plug my monitors directly into the back of the SP
@@spvidz hmm confusing haha, just trying to figure out a way to rout everything and not have to unplug anything.. like leave monitors and sp plugged to interface and be able to sample from computer without creating feedback loops.. maybe I’m not explaining well enough and missing smthg but I’m sure there’s a way haha
yo man. when you record from your SP to your laptop, do you get 2 separate mono channels or 1 stereo channel? i've been thinking of getting a 4 channel mixer/with built in audio interface cause it's much cheaper than an audio interface. can I get away with that?
I record in a stereo channel yeah. My interface has phono out, so i just use a phono cable straight into the back of my SP. You can resample in mono if you need anything in mono using the SP
@@spvidz ahh let me rephrase my question. the thing is I am really on a tight budget, so would I get away with using a mixer with built in audio interface instead of an audio interface for recording from my SP?
It’s pretty hard to go into much more detail than what’s on this video. Make sure all the basics are in check. Make sure your cables are going to ‘in’ on the sp. Make sure ‘ext source’ is lit. Make sure you have chosen the right sound output on your computer too.
Okay man thanks so much for your help. From what I can gather, I think it might be a symptom of my interface, as the inputs and outputs are made for Jack leads instead of RCA
Fresh as always. I record by sending sp’s sound through headphones out.. any thoughts? (Don’t remember if the cable I use is tr or trs). Keep them coming yeeeessssss👌👌👌
@@spvidz i tried that but the sp doesnt get signals from it. and yes, ext src is on and the channels are on in 1 and 2. i do get sounds coming from the sp, but it doesnt process the sound im playing in my daw.
I've just tried the same thing on mine and it works absolutely fine. Are you sure you have the 'ext source' button lit and have you turned up the 'output' up on your interface? Thats as much as I can help as I don't own the gear and can't check exactly what you are doing.
@@spvidz thanks i figured it out. i actually had the output knob all the way down LOL sorry to bother you! but I do get crazy feedback when switching fx or when i put the volume too high. so when i process samples with fx, it's always silent but i just normalize afterwards. now my problem is the incredible hiss, any solutions for that?
I'm not sure with one channel. I imagine that will only be mono. Ideally I think you want two channels to record both left and right. Try and look at the specs of the interface you are looking to buy and see if there are any youtube videos etc too
@@spvidz I have an sp 505 and I bought the 1 channel version of the audio interface that you have in this video. I will mostly be using audacity to record my sample chops and loops. You think it'll work?
I have a 2i2 focusrite gen 2, it doesn't have the rca ins and outs... I brought 2 pairs of the cables you mention @1:27, could they be used in the front of the interface?
yo man, you will need two of the cables at 3:35 - to record out of your comp use the double jack ends on the 'line outputs' on the back of your interface, and the RCA end on the input of your SP - then RCA on the output of the SP to the two jack inputs on the front of the interface!
I think your best bet is to try and find a USB mixer at this point. You could get cables to connect them up though - you'll just need to go from the output of the mixer (which is usually 2x jack or RCA) and then go into your audio interface to whatever connections you have on there
One way I do a lot is use the mic input and take a cable and grab samples from my iPad I also use to do this with my record payer but I stopped because I noticed it wasn’t stereo just mono sounds
Mono can actually be useful sometimes if the panning is hard. Like old records this happens a lot so sometimes you can just pick out certain a instrument which is cool. Thanks for watching!
I find using the SP as an Fx into Ableton has its problems and can't get good results with using the external instrument rack. Do you have the same problem?
I only managed to get it to work once - not tried it for a long time. I will look into it soon though as I am slowly dropping more Ableton related content
on the SX, yes. Unless you have some other form of recorder that you can then transfer to your computer like the Zoom H5. Getting a good signal to a computer for recording will require an interface. The only other option is that you export all the individual sounds to your computer and then re-build the beat in a DAW.
when i play the sounds from my sp into my daw its really quiet and i have to turn my volume all the way up just to hear it and even then its still really quiet, do you happen to know a fix for this? thanks
Are you sampling in loud enough? That could be an issue. Also you can turn up the SP output gain. Use function + 12 and use the right hand dial to turn it up then you should get more volume!
when i record into my daw from the sp, its sound cool, but once i slap a limiter on it I can suddenly hear hiss on my recordings. Have you come across this? Is it my interface? its not a crazy loud hiss , just a very small amount but i can notice it
@@spvidz yes quite a loud signal when recording, and yea you could be right that its coming from the sp, only noticable when volume is boosted. I think I will try the sd card option until i figure out the origin of the hiss. thanks!
Depends how you made your beat originally. You can either take the files off the SD card or if you have used pattern seq, duplicate the patterns and delete the parts you don’t want to record one at a time
If it’s resampled down to one pad yeah there is no way really apart from taking all the individual parts you used to make that beat and arranging them in a DAW - or just export that whole pad and do some EQ and compression in your daw maybe! Getting the beat digitalised isn’t easy with the SP unfortunately
Yes, you just need the right cables depending on what inputs and outputs your AI has. Most likely you will need a phono to double jack like this to go from the back of your SP to your audio interface - amzn.to/3pUUj6r you will then either need the same to go from the outputs on the back of your AI to the back of the SP, or just a straight phono cable (my AI has phono outputs on the back) amzn.to/2MssEfB
