I found the video very interesting and informative but I was confused by the term "massive flies" (or message fly in one part of the transcript). A search on Google just took me to how to avoid flies (insects) on a boat. Please help.

I guess you’re talking about whatever is on the top of the mast that can tell what your apparent wind is
