Ive found that avoiding the cluster of people fighting for the slightly favored end, and starting in CLEAR AIR totally trumps the favored end

Small note: The distance to the first mark is irrelevant, it is the angle of the wind compared to the starting line that matters. It is the end that is closest to the wind you want to start at, i.e. the side with the smaller angle to the wind. The methods you describe to determine the best side of the line really is just this and not the end that is closest to the mark. Nice video though, 100% accurate about Wally World :)

This. It had me confused too. Searching for "sailing ladder rungs" is helpful to understand why the actual distance doesn't matter.

He says the wind is "coming down the board".

It's not which end is 'closer'. It's really which end is 'further upwind' than the oether end. It's climbing the ladder.

No shit. What if the breeze was over to the right. Then the right side would be favored even if the left pin was “closer to the mark”. Bs

You are wrong and comments below are right- straight line to the mark doesn’t matter as long as you are inside the laylines! The biased (favored) end is most up wind!
