What unchecked Power Creep does to a mf
It's both power creep and reverse power creep. Losing Pursuit means it loses its best dark move while keeping the drawbacks.

@@kwestionablplusand it dropped to uu I’m pretty sure, plus with limited Dex it’s usually supporters are nowhere around. Sand is much weaker than sun (past paradox paradise) and rain (swift swim abusers are nuts after home). Sand being much weaker, lack of it’s partners, lack of pursuit, and the new potent opposition (garg being the only ever good bulky rock type and strong checks like gambit and tusk) have combined to obliterate ttars crown, sending the tarnished king past UU to RU.
@@Endershock1678Losing options isnt reverse power creep, reverse powercreep is when a move/pokemon/item get stronger overtime as what they provide becomes more valuable when more things can abuse it or a new mechanic can take advantage of it, or what it counters becomes more frequent. To my knowledge pokemon doesnt have a great example of reverse powercreep, although im a vgc player not a singles player so maybe its more relevant to singles. The best example in Vgc would prolly be Gen 8’s Weakness Policy or Prankster/Tailwind after the dynamic speed changes, although they arent great examples
it took tryanitar 7 generations after its debut to fall from OU. and it’s not power creep. it’s a meta shift. are we saying that volcarona being banned to ubers means that everything around it got weaker? you have no idea what you’re talking about
Ru lowkey been my fav tier cuz OU is "can you beat gambit" and uu is "broken mons that just can't beat gambit"
Ru is hella good but they always have the most bans (at one point it was like 11 mons) and they just banded like 5 different mons this last week

@@helente764 Excadrill wasn't even OU last gen, and that gen had reverse power creep. Even with swords dance, +2 EQ doesn't even knock out tusk after rocks, much less zama and dozo. It needs z-moves to truly shine.
Reasons for T-tar dropping from OU and even UU:
• Great Tusk/Quaq gatekeeping
• The loss of Pursuit ever since Gen 8
• No Excadrill or other top tier sand abusers (RIP Last Respects Houndstone)
• 8 gens and no 100% accurate Rock type move (inb4 "b-but Smack Down!")
• Rain and Sun got huge boosts this gen via Basculegion and Paradox mons. Even Hail (albeit now Snow) got a slight buff. Meanwhile, Sand got no noteworthy additions this gen.
• No direct buffs for three gens in a row. Even Garchomp got Spikes this gen, and I'm 90% convinced Game Freak wants to kick that mon into the dirt as of recent.
• General powercreep makes its high Attack not as valuable when you have monsters like Kingambit and Ursaluna running around OHKOing mons with resisted moves.

nah pursuit is an unhealthy move imo, it forces too many 50/50s. the problem isn’t pursuit, ttar is just outclassed and is hard to justify its 4x weakness when everything can tera. ttar itself doesn’t even like teraing much either because it loses its spdef sand buff. people just have to accept that power creep is a thing.
@@itsukizy Yea 50/50. It’s like successfully reading what your opponent is gonna do isn’t one key factors in winning a battle. It’s actually such a good concept for a move.
@itsukizy That's what I've been saying that move overrated as hell. Tear was always gonna be doomed with that dual typing. No reason to use it when fighting types are running the meta.

I really think pursuit should be Ttars signature move. It would help keep in check powerful ghost types and since Ttar has so many weaknesses that can be exploited it wouldn’t be too overbearing on the meta

This gives me hope. I just now left a comment about how I'm way more shocked gyarados is in RU than t-tar, mainly because gyarados is ridiculously more splashable as a team addition than t-tar, so reading that he basically got insta-banned from the tier makes me not fall into powercreep-despair quite as hard.
No Pursuit, Weather mon without weather abusers, and he got no new broken moves to keep up, all things that made up for it's typing. RIP Tyranitar, at least Dragonite goes strong.

The entire game got ruined in gen 8, and it's only continued to go downhill ever since then.
Gen 7 was absolutely perfect with megas, Z moves and access to every single pokemon.
We're really at a point where strong pokemon and legendaries are just infecting every tier so every tier will just become a battle of legendaries
It breaks my heart that my fav pseudo legendary has fallen so far 😢
Same, I think he should be Dark/Ground type though, with what his Pokédex entry says it makes more sense.
All these beasts in RU and people still say that ZU wouldn't have enough picks for a real meta.

No offense but I thought Meowscarda was the worst of the Paldea starters type wise.
@@leebulger7112 typing wise yes, grass/dark is garbage (defense wise). but it makes sense for meowscarda (in my opinion) it’s suppose to be a glsss cannon so give it high offensive stats, low defense, and a horrible defensive typing. plus although protean got nerfed, it still allows it to be versatile with its typings and get rid of those 7 weaknesses lol
@@Wither64 I just figured the best of the trio would be Quaquaval or Skeledirge. Quaquaval is slightly more offensive and 7 resistances. Skeledirge is more defensive with 7 resistances and 2 immunities.
@@leebulger7112 that’s completely fair! the way i see it is that quaquval has high attack (120) and everything else is kinda mid. the way you get that thing going is by using aqua step to boost your speed and moxie so if you get a kill your attack goes up by one. skeledirge is just a tank that can hit hard and really mess you up if you don’t know how to deal with it. all the starters are completely viable it’s just from my experience, the support/offense meowscarda can provide is so valuable. not many pokémon get knock off or have easy crits. BUT that’s my own opinion and i will respect whatever yours may be. :)

The sands of time have simply been counting down on Tyranitar, like the sands buffeting his opponents. Unfortunately his time is up, the powercreep spread, and it him like a punch to the gut. And that punch was quad effective

Making Gholdengo and Hisuian Zoroark in the generation after they peeled Tyranitar of Pursuit and making one of the best physical walls a fighting/ground type and the other walling both of Ttar’s stabs and hitting it for super effective really is what bullied Tyranitar into dropping far.

TTar not only lost its best Dark move in Pursuit, but it also lost its best partner in Excadrill. Both of those cuts are massive nerfs, so it makes sense that TTar ended up in RU.
I mean this is what happens when you dont get buffs in 5 gens and its even worse when you consider the nerfs

Man, I miss Pursuit, Return, Assist, Me First, Psycho Boost, Rolling Kick and High Jump Kick, they were some of my favorite moves. I wonder what competitive would look like with the moves added back in.
The power of giving almost all new Pokémon UNIQUE new moves and abilities. Moves that make sense to be widely distributed are instead tied to one user (Armor Cannon), moves end up having multiple possible effects, and abilities are either 2 abilities conjoined into one or are basically a free move (Bellibolt’s ability). And don’t even start on giving the Paradox mons an ability that works with an item OR weather for a free boost (should be one or the other, not both, another example of new things being broken for being new). And proof they want the newest mons to be strongest and the hottest flavour of the month is they’ll need broken things AFTER gens end. Aegislash? Nerfed after. Talonflame? Nerfed after. Mega Kanga? Needed after. Never during.
Max Hp max special defense Careful Assault Vest Tyranitar pretty good, though.

He can work as a special attacker, it just depends on what you want to beat.
@@abdulbasith1552 ty for the kind words haha and it just depends on how you are using tera with it. tera flying + ice beam lets you beat great tusk/landorus/dragonite on their eqs. if you want to have some fun there is always tera water + hydro pump
People really have absolutely no idea what they are talking about. This is not power creep. It’s an issue of the nerfs, shift, and more importantly, the National Dex.
It will still do great in OU, it’s just, as the name suggests, it isn’t being used AS much.
This is a Generational issue.
My thoughts are that RU looks like a ton of fun, with a power level simular to Gen 4 OU

I think this RU Tier is looking mighty powerful for an RU Tier.
Ok def late for me to say this at the end of the month, but I think these reflect how dynamic the changes to competitive pokemon are as a result of terastallization and the overall power-creep from gen 9, which I don't think is inherently bad. On one hand, it's a good thing that pokemon that were once considered mainstays are being pushed aside, as while I love T-tar, it gets boring seeing it on every gen 3 and a lot of gen 4 teams. On the other, pokemon like Floatzel have found new niches, so it's not *just* power creep. Pokemon still have chances to adapt to the new scenarios in VGC and Smogon alike!
The only thing I hate about Tyranitar is his typing, overall he has some of the best stats of all of the Pseudo legendaries, while they aren’t the best stats (lookin at you speed) they are great, but why rock/dark? His Pokédex says he in one hand is the power to destroy a mountain, that’s the ground, he eats the ground, literally everything they said in the Pokédex makes sense for him to be ground, and he’s fucking rock type. He should be Dark/Ground type and you can’t change my mind.

A lot of people are hoping Excadrill will 'save' TTar (it would keep it in UU at best in Gen 9) but Excadrill isn't on the DLC returnees list and the best Sand Rush user added is going to be Sandslash.
That means that unless there is a hail mary like one of the new Pokemon being an amazing sand abuser or TTar getting an extremely good new TM, DLC powercreep will make things even WORSE for it and potentially drop more things that 1v1 it from UU into RU. It's not that unlikely that TTar ends the gen as something like NUBL/NU.
I wonder if the old mons will get back their old moves at any point, or are the gen 9 mons gonna lose big moves and fall when the next Gen drops until all Ttar can run is Stone Edge and Rock Slide.

Really surprised about the thundurus drop because of the insane combination with urshifu rapid, prankster rain dance with choice scarf urshifu is really good and easy to use.
