  • How to Make the Hurricane Cocktail. Drink Ingredients and Recipe.
In this video, you will learn how to make the best Hurricane cocktail.
You will know which are the ingredients and the recipe for classic Hurricane cocktails.
    Here's a recipe for a Hurricane :
    Ingredients
    2 ounces light rum
    2 ounces dark rum
1 ounce lime juice, freshly squeezed
1 ounce orange juice, freshly squeezed
    1/2 ounce passion fruit puree
    1/2 ounce simple syrup
    1 teaspoon grenadine
    Garnish: half an orange wheel
    Garnish: canned cherry
    Steps
Add the light and dark rums, lemon and orange juices, passion fruit puree, simple syrup, and grenadine to a shaker with ice and shake until well chilled.
Strain into a large Hurricane glass over fresh ice.
Garnish with an orange half-wheel and a preserved cherry.
Hurricane is not a cocktail of finesse. It's double serving of rum and fruit juice and sweetener package had packed a punch since the early 1940s, when it was invented at Pat O'Brien's in New Orleans.
According to Shelly Waguespak, president of the family-owned bar, Hurricane was created because of a rum glut. In the 1940s, rum was easier to come by than whiskey and other spirits, so Pat O'Brien began experimenting with the spirit, eventually landing on Hurricane. The fun bar continues to distribute the cocktail in bulk, selling more than half a million glasses each year at its New Orleans location.
The Hurricane consists of two types of rum, lime juice, orange juice, passion fruit puree, grenadine, and simple syrup. It's sweet, fruity, and delicious, so it has all the hallmarks of a good party drink. Ingredients can vary depending on where you get your Hurricane, and it's common to see the cocktail made with bottled mixers. Fresh citrus, quality passion fruit, and house-made grenadine play an important role in balancing the cocktail and softening its sweetness.
Besides keeping your lap busy, this high-octane fruit bomb is an excuse to drink from a Hurricane glass, the long, curvy, and alarmingly wide vessel inspired by the hurricane bulb. Although in New Orleans' French Quarter, where public consumption of alcohol is legal, you're more likely to see it served in a disposable plastic cup.
