The Educated Barfly and Steve the Bartender are two of the biggest cocktail youtubers from what I’ve seen. They make really instructive tutorials on all kinds of cocktails.
This might be my favorite episode. The history of The Hurricane, you being you, no guests that take away from the good vibes. Seen it a bunch of times before, but well done, Spike.
So many hurricane recipes. I haven’t had access to fassionola but it is Passionfruit forward so I’ve just used Passionfruit purée and add a touch of grenadine for color. I do a 50/50 mix of Appleton 12 and Pusser’s Gunpowder Proof. I find Smith & Cross to be kind of bitter but I can see how that might work in this.
Two year late here, but anyway: I made my own Fassionola. A little more fuss than other flavoured syrups, but completely manageable. I combine blueberries, diced mango, strawberries, pineapple juice, a couple of teaspoons of hibiscus syrup and cane sugar and let that sit overnight with a couple of stirrings once in a while. Then strain it and add passion fruit puré. Done. Works wonder in a Hurricane.
Thanks for showing the straw, gotta get one. Absolutely would buy your Zombie and Cocktail glass sets. There's a Hula Girls shirt your rocking in an old Justin Scarred video classic black with you bands logo in white. Definitely would buy one.
This was a fun episode! I went to New Orleans for my sister's 30th bday, we tried many of their iconic drinks, including the Hurricane at Pat O'Briens. I want to try your version though with the BG Reynolds syrup. Sounds really good!
Thanks a bunch for this video...you've inspired me to try making hurricanes at home...ordered the fassionola from BG Reynolds and some of those awesome straws...Tiki On!!
This might be my fav episode so far. Nice to see you getting into it. And by it I mean the rum haha 😂 so when are you releasing some tiki crack pipe merch haha
1 drink evening.....4oz? I need to slow down apparently. Thank you for the tip with the BG Reynolds Fassinola Syrup. Just ordered some to give this a whirl. By the way, your back drop is so sweet. This was a great video and I subbed to see more.
@@BreezewayCocktailHour I have a bar in my basement that need a face lift real bad. I would love to do the Tiki thing just not real sure where to start. The mask and things are probably a bit pricey so maybe one thing at a time.

Can wear the white tees outside during the summer without spontaneously combusting. Thank you Matt, once again, your episode was fun to watch, edutaining, and a great way to start a weekend. Cheers my dear friend. Tony, EPTX.
Fairly new subscriber to your channel and loving it, especially as Summer is upon us here in the Northeast. One ask would be that at some point towards the end you do a close up of the finished drink, as I like to keep photos of presentation for my bartending endeavors at home.
Hi Spike, could you do an affiliate link for BG Reynolds next time? I’m going to buy some fashionola but would love to get you some digital credit. Keep up the channel, this is great content.
Bro I love your whole setup, I started doing Tiki cocktails myself and got a minute little bar cart. I was wondering where I could get that small Knife you use in all your videos to chop the fruit? I love that thing!
Nice video, now I need to track down some fassinola. One correction, Fat Tuesday is the end of Mardi Gras, the following day being Ash Wednesday and the beginning of the Lenten season. Keep up the good work!
Fassionola is an awesome ingredient. I really love the Cocktail & Sons but it is only available a couple times a year in small batches. The fassionola that is available these days from BGR, Cocktail & Sons, etc, is likely quite a bit better than that used in the 30s and 40s. That stuff was described as being very much like Hawaiian Punch flavor, super sweet and artificial. I mean, that also sounds delicious in a gross way, but this new stuff is even better and without the gross part.
I like a huuricane but when I think about the drinks of New Orleans that can have official claim I always think of a sezerac or one of those soft serve daquiri places where you bring in your own gallon jug to fill up. I know it's not real deal daquiri but I get nostalgic
If you could please try to replicate the tiki drink called “ Malekula “. I’ve had this at different bars but the best by far was from Tike Bar in Costa Mesa. 1700 Placentia I think. Thanks in advance if this is in your wheel house.
@@BreezewayCocktailHour Yeah, nice place with good cheap drinks. I’m on social security so it’s a plus. Although I’m older than dirt I’m relatively new to all things Tiki so if you have recommendations, I’m all ears.

@@BreezewayCocktailHour yes it is and the next day is Ash Wednesday and that starts the beging of the lent season. Mardi Gras follows the catholic tradition of lent. The Mardi Gras season is tons of fun and something everyone should experience
The modern hurricane at pat o’s is not very good. It taste like cough syrup and rum. It looks like cough syrup too lol maybe you could do the New Orleans hand grenade in the future.

Brings back so many memories- best Hurricanes in NOLA was at the Gazebo down by the French Market. Great episode.
Made this recipe last night. Very good. Remade it today, but in a blender with crushed ice and xanthan gum. That worked out so well!
Totally on board for a "Tiki Mugs" episode! Always loved them and just beginning to collect
I would love a DIY episode where Spike shows how he made his lamps and other stuff.

Hey Spike, I'm from just outside of New Orleans and would love to hook you up with a proper Pat O's hurricane glass.
Yes to a mug and/or glasses. A Breezeway hurricane glass, even?
Hamo love that idea
He may not be tiki but BB King always gets my love
Where do you get the shirts?
They're almost all vintage. I've been collecting for 20 years. But try eBay, Etsy, estate sales, antique malls, tiki events...

I have a crazy Pat O’Brien Hurricane Story but who doesn’t.
We drink those at Brunch in NoLA 🤪 Gotta be a professional to live there lol! They also make the Cyclone. Both will destroy you 🍹
I never knew that the hurricane glass was related to the hurricane lamp.
Brian Stone either did I! And I guess my glass isn't a traditional 'Hurricane' glass. The real ones look even more similar to the lamps!
That drink will send you into orbit. Total black hole of forgetfulness after a couple of those. I love New Orleans.
