I have to get something off my chest AJ... In January I was listening to mcdougall's argument about why we shouldn't be doing mammograms. I had a mammogram scheduled for the next day and almost cancel it for the second time. I'm 50 years old and never had one... My husband urge me not to cancel it after listening to McDougal's opinion on your channel. They found I had breast cancer. Thankfully caught it at stage one. After the mastectomy it was found to be invasive and made its way to one lymph node. It's an aggressive type and I would have been in a lot of trouble had I not gone when I did. I wouldn't be here for my 55th birthday.. that's for sure. So grateful I decided to disregard his opinion and get the mammogram. Annual mammograms save people's lives! I will never rely on my healthy diet to keep me from getting sick with cancer. I've been a high vegan for 17 years... And I still got f******cancer.

Nope... High raw vegan means mostly raw. At night I eat cooked foods that are vegan. But toxic people don't care about the details... They just wanted to spread hate. You responded trying to blame me for my cancer. That makes you a disgusting person.
I posted what happened to me to AJ so she would know that mammograms save lives. Nearly 50,000 women a year diagnosed. Dr. McDougall sees us only as a number. Not worth the trouble to save. So for sure you shouldn't bother going in for annual mammograms. You're so pure and perfect I'm sure you'll be just fine 👍

Good it got caught early. I had one mammogram at 50. I was ok. After that I had thermogram. Apparently it can detect something going on way before a mammogram and there is no radiation or side effect. I'm in Ontario, Canada and this is not covered by our health care system, it cost me 250$ Can to get it done. I give a copy to my family Dr. as proof that I am not neglectful about my health.

Glad you caught it early, but that doesn't take away the problems that are there with mammograms. I'll link the interview dr. mcDougall had with dr. Gotzsche about mammograms (Professor Peter C. Gøtzsche graduated as a Master of Science in biology and chemistry in 1974 and as a physician 1984. He is a specialist in internal medicine; worked with clinical trials and regulatory affairs in the drug industry 1975-1983, and at hospitals in Copenhagen 1984-95. Co-founded the Cochrane Collaboration (the founder is Sir Iain Chalmers), and established the Nordic Cochrane Centre in 1993. Became professor of Clinical Research Design and Analysis in 2010 at the University of Copenhagen and has been a member of the Cochrane Governing Board twice. Co-founded Council for Evidence-based Psychiatry in the UK in 2014 and International Institute for Psychiatric Drug Withdrawal in Sweden in 2016. Founded the Institute for Scientific Freedom in 2019. Currently works as researcher, lecturer, author and independent consultant, e.g. in lawsuits. Visiting professor, University of Newcastle.) th-cam.com/video/5YNq1PqrZfA/w-d-xo.html You're the lucky case that they did catch.

When I told my oncologists I was stopping my chemo treatments, and would use a plant-based diet to remedy my cancer, one literally screamed, "You will be dead in a year." That was three years ago.
This year I was assigned a new oncologist - a young Chinese lady, who admitted she did not know anything about alternative medicine. But she suggested I see an obesity doctor. I almost jumped out of my seat and hugged her.
When I started my cancer journey five years before, I was placed on medication that caused me to gain 50 lbs. I lost some weight with the plant-based diet. But I was still 30 lbs overweight, largely because I did not properly implement the diet. I am now working with a plant based doctor whose services are covered by my free Ontario provincial health care.
Thank you Chef AJ and Dr. MacDonald for the work you do.

Congratulations Doc McDougall on receiving the lifetime award on 10 th September.
Your message about the correct food has gone far and wide. I am Indian and changed from starchbased vegetarian to one without dairy and extra oil in 2021 Oct after listening to you on You tube with Chef AJ
In India the term vegan has a negative connotation. People think I have completely changed my diet
They do not know that I am still vegetarian but have just removed all dairy products.
Dairy products are all over the place! Every sweet dish has ghee. Every restaurant uses ghee and oil in abundance. It seems the richer you are the richer the food!.
No wonder people seeing me run at 66 can't believe their eyes!.
I just won the bronze in theTCS World 10k (Did it in an hour and 9 mins).
I am a tennis coach too and piano teacher.
Removing dairy is such a boon. My small grandkids are amazed to see me so fit.
I have to thank you for the diet and my dad for running.
He is 93 and has just written a book called Fit at any age: (Retd Air Marshal PV Iyer).
Thank you once again for all that you do to change people's food habits for the better.

Ghee should not be taken in a negative light. Ancient Ayurveda texts mention ghee and it is the centerpoint of Ayurveda. I don't know why ghee gets such a bad rap. It does not even contain lactose. Overuse of any food will cause harm. If taken in proper amounts, pure ghee has amazing properties. It helped heal my gut, my digestion, my skin, helped with my anxiety by giving me amazing groundedness when everything else failed. I stopped cooking with all other fats. I lean towards a low-fat diet but I trust our ancient texts too so ghee will always be a part of my diet.

Answer to Dr. McDougall’s question for his Sunday presentation.... “Address the young people in the audience and tell them you have Absolute confidence in them to find strategies and solutions to all of the problems we older people left them to fix.”
It will lighten up the moment and make the younger folks feel good about themselves. It’s also a “positive” way to Pass the torch!
Yes- Do Not leave them on a negative note- Tell the young people you have great confidence in them! ❤️👍🙏

I tell my own patients the same thing. Eating animals 5 times a year isn’t making them overweight and sick it’s eating animals and oil all day every day 5 meals a day that is the problem. They don’t have to give up all animal products just eat them only on the 5 special occasions a year. I, of course, would NEVER eat animals as I am a vegan for so many reasons but just to get their health back being vegan most of the time and avoiding oil and processed foods is how you do it. ❤

Dr. McDougall. I was diagnosed with Aggressive, Fast Growing IDC Stage 3A in December 2018. The radiologist was marking my lymph nodes. We watched the lymph node return to the average size on the plant-based diet (with oil. This took 1 week!!) 12 months of chemo. Radiation 6 weeks. Surgery: Lumpectomy. Clean margins. Cancer was contained in the lymph 1 node. 2 lymph nodes were removed for accuracy. On Anastrazole 4th year. Mastering Diabetes ready to graduate. WFPB, no oil. Overweight. Oncology research shows I must be on Anastrazole for 10 years, so it won't return.
My most important question: Do you tell people you have "the cure" for IDC Stage 3?
How many of your patients permanently reversed IDC Stage 3 cancer recurrence?
How many patients went to stage 4?
What questions should I be asking you?

Dr John McDougall advise on GERD and Hiatal Hernia is very accurate (33:38). That's how I healed those issues, including Gastritis and Esophagitis. I would add to avoid eating close to bedtime (3 hour minimum), and bigger portions. Besides that, try to eat slowly. By Dinner, don't eat "heavy" meals. That's all!

Hey Chef AJ! Thank you for "trying" to help that poor woman who has lipedema. Dr. McDougall erroneously thought she meant lipidemia (fat in the blood), and then lymphedema (swelling/fluid retention of the lymph glands). I appreciate that you tried to straighten him out, but gosh...he is sooo headstrong! In his older age, he needs to slow down and LISTEN!! He is so condescending to people who write in for his help, and he may even hurt someone with his wrong advice. We have followed him, Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, and T.Colin Campbell for over 15 years, and have gained our health back as a result. But when it is time to hang it up, recognize the signs!!!!

Respectfully I would like to say that I appreciate the help Dr. McDougall provides as a physician, however I am alarmed and saddened by the fat prejudice he verbalized. People may be struggling with their weight, however that does not diminish their value as human beings who can contribute to society as much as anyone else. To refer to obese people as disgusting and suggest they cannot be productive is unacceptable.

I see people bragging about their "carnivore" diet! There's a lady who lost 100 lb & all she eats is a big steak every day (one meal a day) (no fiber!). She gave up sugar also. No wonder she lost weight, but that does not mean carnivore is a good diet! And she has a bunch of followers! Nah, they won't listen to me. I've been V for about five years now, not perfect (I like Earth Balance - but it's better than 1/2 cube of butter a day & cooking with a lot of oil that I used to eat). Dr Barnard & Dr McDougall have helped me a LOT. :) I love my diet & it feels very healthy.

Love this man, but I couldn’t watch this after the first few minutes. His hopeless remarks were discouraging. Yes there are many things that are discouraging in the national level, but I still have hope. Every year I go into the clinic for my wellness check (I am 70), and because of turnover I am seen by a different doctor each time. They check my stats, they are always surprised, I tell my story, they are impressed, and they recommend various tests and I ask why, insurance requires they recommend, I decline and have to sign a form to say that I won’t sue them, then they say see you next year”. But in every visit I have an impact on that doctor. They see me as “uncooperative” but they can’t argue with my state of health. Inch by inch I have my impact on those doctors and the friends and family who know my lifestyle. Thank you Dr McDougall for giving me the courage to buck the system. 😁

We need to grow our own food as much as possible. Even me in WI a colder climate, but things will grow here. We had beautiful heirloom tomatoes this summer locally grown and delicious. We can eat right and grow our own food as much as possible. If each person with small land around their house planted food plants -- better than just grass. It will help. I don't believe that climate change is totally man made. Nature has done quite a lot what it does throughout the centuries and ther is nothing we can really do about it. BUT, we can react to it and live in it the best way we can by growing our own food based on our climate. We are in a drought but we had the best tomatoes this year from the local farmers.

He tells you to start by making a starch the focus of your meals because it will satisfy your hunger whether it be potatoes, corn, or rice. Then compliment it with non-starchy vegetables, beans, grains, and fruits. While beans are technically a starch, he cautions against choosing them as your “starch” staple because they are higher in protein. As an Italian, I love my pasta but don’t choose it as my every day-staple since technically it is processed but I still have a nice big bowl of it on Sunday. Or some other day of the week.

The fat-shaming is harming vegans (and not-yet vegans) more than the “fat vegans”. I can’t keep recommending Chef AJ’s channel with content like this. The implication that eating this way gets you perfect health/physique is ridiculously over-simplified and not necessarily true. The chronic lifestyle diseases may improve or reverse of course, but that’s not all that people suffer from. I find this more alienating and disappointing than inspiring. 😢

I understand what you are saying and at first I was taken aback by it. But Dr. McDougall doesn’t hold back, or sugarcoat anything. They was absolutely nothing moving the scale for me until I found this way of life and I’m far from perfect with it, but every week that goes by I get that much closer to the prize - to being at a normal weight, filled with energy now even though I’m not even there yet. And never hungry. That’s what I love the most. I recently fell off track these past weeks, but even in my struggles, listening to this again today brought me back. It made me realize I never want to go back to that horrible place again, that state of being in my worst health were I felt chronic illness knocking at the door. And even in my weakest moments I still came out maintaining my weight loss.

I did everything Dr. Gregor recommends in How Not To Diet and gained 10 pounds. I simply cannot lose weight without carefully counting and restricting calories and going hungry which is what I’m doing now. Any suggestion that just changing WHAT you eat and not going hungry can work is utter nonsense, at least for me it is.

If you are eating meat & want to become vegan, you do it a little at a time, gradually. That way it is not stressful. The first thing I gave up was meat, that was easy. Did that for a year. Dairy was next, a little harder. Oil was the hardest for me & I use a little. I use Earth Balance vegan butter & am trying to replace Vegenaise with homemade tofu mayo (it is great on potato salad!). Good luck.

    • @darcey55
      @darcey55 ปีที่แล้ว

You can remove the animal products slowly if you like, personally I’d recommend going cold turkey (no pun intended). If it takes you a year to remove meat from your diet then another year to remove the dairy, you won’t see the results very quickly at all. I went cold turkey on the Starch Solution on 3/3/22 and lost all 75lbs I needed to lose in 15 months. Keeping some “junk” foods in your diet will keep your taste for them. Getting rid of them, your tastebuds will stop wanting them and will acquire a taste for just healthy starches and plant foods. Definitely do it the way that works for you best, but for me I’m SO GLAD I went 💯 from the beginning or I would still be struggling with my weight.

      @darcey55 ปีที่แล้ว

Also I’ve written a review on Amazon for The Starch Solution and added pictures of myself so you can see what I looked like before and during (I need to add another picture because I’ve lost even a few more pounds since the last photo). I have the same username on my review

@@Goodbyeeveryonehere amazing, great job! I didn’t exercise much either because I wanted to focus on getting the diet right. Now I have so much energy and feel even better when I exercise, so I’ve started to exercise more. Agreed you definitely can lose the weight on this diet alone without exercising!

I cook my potatoes every single day in the microwave and they turn out perfect for me. Fast and easy. Large single sweet potato 8 or 9 minutes, turned over once mid cycle. Smaller red/new potatoes, 2 or 3, about 4 to 6 minutes turned once.

I'm only 5 mins in to the video, but I've got a comment: let's start by not referring to preserving "our way of life"- because IF you mean the way citizens of the USA live, we are some of the greediest folks on the planet. If we are going to preserve the planet and keep it habitable for human life, we HAVE to start thinking globally. We have to recognize people EVERYWHERE as our brothers, sisters and most importantly our CHILDREN, and the future of everyone. You mention WWII and of course that was our Greatest Generation, and you do know what made it great right? SACRIFICE for the good of the future. Our lives are inextricably bound with those of every other person on this planet, and we who have so much MUST make sacrifices for the good of ALL. Since JFK told us to think of the good of our country instead of just what we wanted for ourselves, and of course I'm arguing that we extend that to the entire planet- but since then, no one has spoken about the common good and the sacrifices we ALL need to make. Climate change is unjustly and unevenly negatively affecting those who have contributed the least to cause it....I know John McDougall is a deeply concerned and caring person so I expect as I listen to more I may hear him speak to these issues as well. But in case it doesn't come up- this is my 2 cents, for what it is worth!!!

I wish I did not have to take my Synthroid levothyroxine med for the rest of my life. I had a complete thyroidectomy in 2017 due to Thyroid cancer. Problem is I’ve been vegan for many years and love me my cruciferous veggies like cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower and Brussel sprouts which I heard interfere with the thyroid medicine. I love nuts, seeds, avocados, apples and other fruits but not much of a starch eater like rice or potatoes but after listening to this video I may try to incorporate them into my diet.

Almost all done with the show. I think the hardest thing to get through your head is that you really do not need to eat as much of the non-.starchy vegetables as you think to have your dietary needs met. Some other authors,/doctors say starch is a wasted food, you need tons of greens, you need to eat 32 (my #) different plant foods a day to be in super health/not get sick/ keel over... I eat some nice green vegies because I like vegetables in general, but the non-starchy vegies are not the bulk of my daily food. When I was listening to the starches make you fat guy, it messed me up. Someone suggested I read his book. I was not at all fat, but it brought me over to the dark side again (eating ice cream and cookies). The other guy p'ed me off after hearing his - I saw his face - telling people off for saying Dr. F was ... you know, I already am waiting for a strike. He was really angry. I lost all respect for him. I eat tons of bread, oats, starchy vegies and I'm fine.

I'm not sure he is familiar with Lipoedema. He was talking about the lymph nodes and cellulite, but Lipoedema is a collection of fat in the buttocks and legs that looks like a huge swelling. It's not cellulite, although cellulite can also exist there too. I know a person who suffers from Lipoedema and yes, she could lose some weight, but her weight is all collected in her lower body and her legs look swollen, while her upper body looks normal.

I do not know about adults, older adults over lets say over 50 y.o., but you really have to be sensitive with young people and children when talking about their weight. Go tell a kid they're fat and ugly and see what happens. You can really set a kid up not only to possibly hate you, but to crush them. I see some of these obese children and it makes me so sad. The junk food is everywhere as you know, including the school lunch program.

The thing with Dr. McDougall is he knows how cruel the world can be to people suffering from being overweight and how painful that life can be. He wants to put a fire under you and spare you from it. He doesn’t want you to think losing weight has to be painful, or that it’s your fate to be overweight for your entire life like some other doctors will make you believe. To him, it’s the opposite. We have this amazing opportunity to take control of our lives. I wish I had known about the Starch. Solution when I was a child. I wouldn’t have wasted all the time and money yo yo dieting and suffering on Weight Watchers. I would have been on a program that worked way back then. I would have been spared all those failed attempts at being a “vegan” or a “vegetarian” with all those fakes foods loaded with salt and didn’t even taste good. Now I finally know how to do it right.

I am an enthusiastic proponent of plant-based nutrition. I went on the Ornish diet in 2005 and have been off meds ever since. I'm 88 and I don't think I'd be around if it weren't for him. But one characteristic of the plant-based community drives me nuts. They, you, can't stop talking. You make a point and then say it again, over and over. It's as if your life depends on the number of ways you can say the same thing. Give us a break, folks. We're already on your side. You're preaching to the choir. Say it once and give us the credit not to have to hear it again. Borrrrrring!
