1:02:35 I disagree about giving a new VF a super or something. VF is the closest we got to a combat sports game while being a traditional fighting game (it has health bars, no stamina, no random KO, fights are quick, proper frame data, no fighter stats). I hope it stays true to its roots gameplay, just improve the presentation, audio, visuals and a bit of the effects without going to flashy. And, for Gods sake SEGA, invest in the lore, do a proper good story! You can have great characters here, just need to have people invested on them.
My pitch for a new Virtua Fighter is to go full on the 90's martial arts tournament-vibe. Put crowds on the stages, make the stages dark arenas lighted up with blown up headlights, make camera flashes go off when something crazy happens. Maybe give it a slightly VHS filter to it. When you choose a character for the story you get to see like a mini short documentary about them going on their day, like a real sports documentary thing. Virtua Fighter should feel like a long lost martial art tape that was recently uncovered.
I know there's a ton of fighting game stuff right now but I really want a new sword game lol. SC6 came out in 2018 so my copium is that we'll get SC7 within the next couple years. SamSho just got the big rollback update on Steam but I think there's still fewer people playing even compared to SC6. On the bright side the industry acceptance of rollback might mean that newer games are less likely to die after a week due to poor netcode.
I feel you but SoulCalbur 6 didn’t sell very well to Bandai standards so I wouldn’t hold my breath for a next one for at least another 5 to 6 years if Bandai is willing to attempt to make another one. Okubo left unless Harada can have input and revitalize the franchise we may never get another SoulCalbur besides a collection pack.
Max has explained this on his stream before, but the producer who got SC6 off the ground basically staked his career at the company on it, it didn't sell well, and then he left. So we're most likely not getting SC7 for a long, long time
@gdadder Heihachi has already been recast before after his voice actor died. Twice, i think. Besides, i dont think thats quite what they were saying. More that Reina isnt just his daughter like the common theory goes
Around the time this episode released the information came out that the majority of the Mane6 developers behind Them's Fightin' Herds were fired/laid off by Modus, except for 3 people, and then one of the remaining 3 quit out of solidarity. So yeah, the majority of the team that gave us Them's Fightin' Herds is no longer together.
So I have a bit of a silly idea for how VF6 could be innovated upon: body-specific critical hits! For example, Jeffry lands a powerful kick on Lion's shin; now depending on the size/weight of both the attacker AND the defender, there's a pretty high chance that Jeffry's meaty kick could shatter Lion's leg bone, thus nerfing both his overall movement speed and the damage values on any attack that utilizes said leg. Is it a bit sim-y? Perhaps, but I think it would add a nice layer of depth when it comes to how a player approaches a situation; "Should I sidestep in case this guy tries to snap my leg in two, or just block it? Can my character take the potential damage, or will my opponent somehow manage to land a crit and make it so much easier for them to win the match?"
Funny enough that’s pretty much the story of what Kazuya is doing in the main story too 😂 “I’m taking over this planet because y’all ain’t shit, and if you think you are the shit then come see ya boy at the iron fist tournament”
1:03:12 VIRTUA MOVE, VIRTUA TECHNIQUE, or go do the thing the anime did and make a stupid big deal about their moves! "Ooh, it's Akira's Tetsuzanko!" Or something like that.
Capcom's choice regarding the pricing of SF6 dlc and the launch price for Dragon's Dogma 2 made me decide to go back to getting their games only during sales for GOTY editions for the foreseeable future. I understand a lot of people are ok with it and are willing to pay, more power to them, but personally I think it is too greasy.
@@Caderfixloxa I think you shouldn't have bought sf6. I didn't. Capcoms streak means nothing. If you've been paying attention to Capcom at all these last 30 years, you would know that they are super disgustingly greedy with their fighting game releases. Capcom has also added micro transactions into their single player resident evil games these last 7 years. They've never been "on a roll" They've always shown their greed.
When it comes to season passes or even the rollback passes that include a little more netcode into the games itself some of them are good and well worth the price, while others are more or less not so much. Great episode as usual! that sigh from Max when they were talking about the Low hat nerf was how a lot of competitive mk players felt lol. Just FYI about the new MK1 patch with the Low Hat nerf, it has been a universaly well received patch with almost nothing but buffs to weak kameo's and sub-zero. Sonya's projectile is now always mid which makes her very good. we've already seen teams like Johnny Sonya, Reiko Sonya and others doing work. Motaro got patched into the game with improved cooldowns and massive buffs to low shot (it is now +13 on hit) removing the + frames from close low hat and increasing the strength of motaro's low shot makes it a nice way to differentiate the two and both fill a niche. Low hat can be held for 50/50's and leaves opponent standing for pressure on hit. While Low shot provides massive plus frames on block but knocks down on hit. and much more. I'm glad to see that we didn't get the patch everyone was fearing (more nerfs). Also Sub-zero got some nice ice clone buffs.
Honestly, SEGA could give the reign of the new VF to RGG Studio. If anyone could make activities that are simple look flashy, cinematic, and bombastic, it's RGG Studio. The question is if they'll be able to handle a long-term project such as a live-service fighting game, since they specialize on single player games. Also because the Dragon Engine they use is just fantastic, lol. I want to see the engine's patented ragdoll physics in action whenever someone gets KO'd 😂
Hear me out on this one... "How do we revolutionise Virtua Fighter for a new age?" Answer... We don't. And not only do we not... we _double down on it._ We make it literally "it's thing". And by "we don't" I mean, obviously we do lol, but we make it _the most Virtua Fighter_ Virtua Fighter. There's room for a Virtua Fighter _and a Tekken_ in this day and age, I think... I hope.
VF will do nothing positive to their fanbase with supers or cinematic story mode. They first revolutionized the tutorial/training mode long ago, they should consider creating an "Arcade" that is all based around teaching players VF concepts through the application of other game genres (rhythm, shmup, roguelite, etc.) VF is such a fast-paced game; it would be great to have an overarching mechanic that builds off keeping that pace, like a shared meter between players which gives boosts for "keeping the ball afloat" whether it's in O, D, movement and create a meta around when to pass off the temp buffs/nerfs
I don't understand why Max continues to say that about the jukebox feature in Tekken 7. One can already select what track plays in whatever round or stage one chooses. For example: Jun Kazama's arranged track and arcade track from Tekken 2 I've set to play to the first round and last round respectively in the jungle stage. Yeah, one has to manually set this up, but the tracks do play depending on how one arranges them.
