    FAQ:
    Why ‘the religious hippie?’
It was a nickname my friends gave me when I was in highschool because I dressed like a hippie and was a ‘wild child’, when I came back into my faith they thought ‘the religious hippie’ was now a more appropriate nickname and it stuck!
Who is your favorite saint? Saint Francis of Assisi

I learned something watching this. "No one sell their Soul to the devil but its the will." True because it's really our mind that is the devil's workshop. Our Soul belongs to God. The best weapon for me to keep myself away from temptations is praying the Holy Rosary.

I saw her live in 2012 during the Fearless tour when she was still “America’s Sweetheart” basically. I’ve always been a casual listener and not by any means a diehard swiftie, but I remember being enamored with her wholesomeness back then. She was just a hopeless romantic who innovated the scene, writing the most beautiful love songs for guys instead of it being the other way around. It was like watching a real-life Disney princess (the OG ones, not the woke dorky ones now). Now she’s turned into something dark and twisted. It’s almost even a metaphor for how a lack of emotional and physical chastity over time can turn the sweetest of people into something sour.

Music is definitely an outlet for many and we have to be super careful of what we put in our minds and heart. It’s a shame what the industry has done to her, at least with her values having shifted because she is super talented and can make beautiful music but I can’t get on board with the cursing, karma stuff, and sexualizing stuff, etc. thanks for speaking on this sister. 😊

I agree but also, what the Industry did to her? more like what she did to herself, The industry can only go so far at the end of the day the artist makes the choice of who to serve and what they practice, it’s very clear right now who she is serving.

My mom, sister, and I hopped on the Taylor bandwagon during the Eras tour. We scored some cheap tickets and it was a super fun and nostalgic night getting to sing music we grew up with. However, we never really supported her politics or agenda. But after Tortured Poets came out, and we started noticing a lot of the Anti-Christian themes, my mom started pointing out a lot of demonic innuendos (especially in Reputation, she even has a video where she is essentially dressed as a devil in hell). I have a lot of Catholic friends including myself who still enjoyed her music, but I am now realizing a lot of the themes were seeping into my own life especially -what you mentioned about gratifying sexual themes and victim mentality. I realize that when I enter my own relationships, those themes could have blurred my own Christian lenses. I’m glad you posted this because just this week my family essentially had an epiphany and are cutting out a lot of her music and avoiding constant posts and media of hers. I think you explained the topic really well and this video getting posted was kind of the cherry on top that we need to really pray for her conversion and also those of her “cult-like Swifties.”

Thank you for this. I’m a teen (target audience, unfortunately) and it’s just so hard to stay wholesome. All this crap that’s disguised as art being pushed in our faces is insane. You can probably imagine the ads I get on websites as innocent as online dictionaries, even if I’m not looking up some words or my internet history is clean. I don’t know, just please keep praying for us. A lot of times, I think, we forget that younger Gen Z and Gen A are struggling too, maybe even especially the ones who try to stay true to faith.

Surround yourself with people you admire. We become like those who we love. If we listen to drug addicted rappers we will slowly be put down into their mindset. In my personal opinion as a Catholic woman, I really don’t think it’s fair to demonize Taylor Swift or her music. She shares her art, like any poet or painter would. As someone who creates art as well, it can be raw and often highlights a struggle in our lives. That is why her songs are so relatable. She taps into deep feelings of pain, struggle, anger, happiness, etc that we all feel at one point or another. And I do think art is meant to be shared.
All that being said, if you feel God is not wanting you to listen to her music for your own sake then listen to Him! He will never steer you wrong :) But I wouldn’t put it against her.

Agree. Also, only God can judge, not us. If something or someone goes against our faith, we can remove ourselves from that situation and just offer prayers to God for them. We don’t need to publicly admonish them though because that does not make us any better either.

I don’t post comments often but I had to, as there was a tiny mistake in your understanding of the whole Scooter vs. Taylor Swift situation.
Let me preface with this: I do not condone the fact that she took the whole situation publicly on social media and that created that storm for Scooter and his family.
Now that is out of the way. Scooter did indeed own the masters, aka the rights, to Taylor’s songs, meaning she couldn’t take them away with her as her catalog to another label which is basically stealing since it was her life work - this has happened before with artists like Prince for instance. That is why it was a problem and for once, she was actually a victim.
When she started at Big Machine Records she was around 15 years old and it was her father who signed the contract; therefore, Taylor had no idea that that was thing nor what that meant until as an adult she started pondering leaving Big Machine Records.

That’s why I decided to just stop it altogether. I used to be a hard die swiftie and was enamored by everything she did. This is why her following is so cult like, it is people seeking to satisfy their natural religious nature through celebrities..

You hit an important point. I think people really underestimate how much music and other forms of entertainment (video games, movies, TC shows, etc.) affect their minds over time. Not only are they into the entertainment itself, but they get attached to the ideas within it and start to believe in it. Music and entertainment especially will affect the minds of younger people who are still forming their beliefs and understanding of the world. If Taylor Swift had a pro life message instead, I think we would have more young women that would be pro life as well. If she wasn't as into the feminism and victimization that tends to be in her music, younger girls may not drift in that direction as much. Though education is of course a big influence as well. That is a whole other topic though.

As someone who comes from a family that is supposedly Christian but no one practices the faith, and I’m starting my journey into the Church, this is definitely an interesting topic because I’m essentially halfway between the secular and Christian world. So it’s easy for me to attest to the fact that what you consume does definitely affect how you see things. Most things now are secular and left leaning, and that shapes how you grow up. Now that I’ve started consuming more Christian content, however, I no longer can deal with extremely feminist content, for example. The victim mentality and demeaning men isn’t for me. But I also think we need to allow for certain things or we would never consume any media besides those with Christian values. With that being said, despite being Gen Z (we might be the same age, I’m 23) I thankfully didn’t actually grow up on American pop culture. I’m Portuguese, and my brother always loved Japan and so I grew up on that. And it’s funny, Japanese people are for the most part not Christian, but they have Christian motifs everywhere in their stories. And I also think their stories and artists are way cleaner and wholesome most of the time. And I will say, I worry for kids who listen to some American artists. Taylor Swift not as much, but I remember watching Hannah Montana as a kid and then when Miley Cyrus made that huge change I was shocked. Definitely not something I would want a teen to grow up listening.

Taylor has never once told anyone to threaten other ppl. Taylor WILL admit she’s wrong. (“Afterglow”) Also, Taylor has not done much that is SO wrong unlike many other artists for us to hate on. Taylor has NOT “sold her soul to the devil”. Taylor has honestly NEVER been through her “bad girl” phase. Reputation kind of but also she was 27😭. Also, it was mild. How do u attract demons to a concert? Willow is a cool thing live. Idk why everyone reads into stuff that’s not there. On “But daddy I love him”, she does mention how the Christian’s were telling her what to do with her life. But directed to everyone, most of it wasn’t even about Christians. And many of them did judge her. I do agree that people worship her. I’m obsessed but she’s 2nd. First is God. Me personally, does not care about her views. I don’t agree with them but. Taylor doesn’t have a victim mentality. I don’t change my values , I am a feminist though and has been.

Depends on the wave of feminism you’re talking about, as feminism is not a stagnant movement. If you’re asking can a Catholic believe women are equal in dignity to men, of course! That has always been the church’s teaching, whether or not the media portrays it that way or members of the church have lived up to it. That hasn’t changed and never will.
But if you’re asking can you embrace modern feminism, it depends what you mean by that. Much of modern feminism is build on a faulty worldview, For example, fighting for “pay equity” is silly because if you look at the statistics holistically, women do NOT make less than men for the same job. We are actually more likely to be hired and accepted to college these days. Modern feminism has taken things like abortion and proclaimed them a woman’s right. That’s not a Catholic view. Those sorts of modern feminist takes do not uphold the dignity of women. So while Catholic woman can believe those lies, that doesn’t make those lies true or in line with the Church.

I didn't really have any interest in this music. I really think that there's something off about music, TV and stuff. It's there, but it goes far deeper than most people are willing to acknowledge. I think there is some "Eyes Wide Shut" stuff going on, and since post WWII.

she's mocked God for a long time, it's just coming to light. You ever taken a listen to "False God" ...or the "sacred new beginnings that became my religion" lyric in "Cornelia Street" in Songs like "Guity as sin" she is taking the crucifixion very lightly and describes lust as Holy. Again in "The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived" saying she would die for her exe's sins. and one I haven't heard people really talk about is the "I can fix him (no really I can)" I cannot quote the exact lyrics because I have refused to listen to it now, however, she mocks God for not being able to fix the dude or whatever. Besides, mockery isn't always in words, but actions as well. she goes around claiming to be "christain" but spreading the complete opposite of God's word. I will pray that God opens your eyes!

For me listening to Taylor Swift worked the other way. I felt like either I was all bad or someone else. Especially after my first breakup, I remember having this "depressive" stage of it when I just felt bad with myself, with the breakup, I felt like the breakup was my fault, then it was his fault. Next breakup I had this year wend so much smoother and I was not listening to her songs, because I mede the decision to not do it. It made me miserable, sad, searching for a faulty person in relationship. Now I'm more like "i did some wrong, you did too, the only thing we can do about it is learning from our mistakes". I still need more time to fully let go of Taylor, but these days I'm definitely more and more called to finally stop listening to her. Right now it's more like stages when I do it or not, but I'm definitely more cautious about what songs I'm choosing. Thank you for this video, it was really great to hear a catholic talking about it. For now I've just seen protestants and Ascension Presents :)
    God bless you!🩷

To be fair, I appreciated the cursing in Father Stu because it was raw and real. I don’t like it when movies even Catholic ones don’t allow cursing that has a reason to be there. There was cursing because the Dad was still healing, and sometimes out of frustration, people curse. As long as it is not directed at someone, I think it’s fine to curse for emphasis or to express frustration. It helps to purge the emotion. I know some Catholics won’t agree with me. But, that’s how I see it.

If curse words are a tool for me to purge out certain emotions, I am going to use them. As long as I am not using them to insult someone, I don't find a problem with them when they are stylistically used for art. We are not perfect. Father Stu's Dad was having a rough time. He is going to curse.

Ok. Some Food for your thoughts. Might help..
Colossians 3:8 “But now put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and foul talk from your mouth.”
Ephesians 4:29 “Let no evil talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for edifying, as fits the occasion, that it may impart grace to those who hear.”
James 3:10 “From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brethren, this ought not to be so.”
Matthew 15:11 “[It is] not what goes into the mouth defiles a man, but what comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man.”
Ephesians 5:1-33 “Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.”
Indeed we are not 'God' to not to swear. That's why Jesus gave us 'Holyspirit'.
      Pray.Fast. Fight the devil.
Unless you try to stop yourself from this habit, only then you jnow how difficult it will be to defeat it. Which means, you are not in control. Your habit is in control. I don't think that is good.

Unfortunately much of popular culture centers around values that are less than Catholic or Christian, and it's been this way for a very long time. I'm a boomer and I remember when I was ten years old, there was a very popular song called "Rhapsody in the Rain" which centers on what happened when out on a first date, the couple's love "went much too far" and refers to making love. That was probably the first song I remember hearing where this kind of thing so blatantly stated, and this was the first of the multitude that followed. You are right that we've become desensitized. If a romantic relationship is a key part of the plot, it seems impossible to depict this in most mainstream movies unless the couple engages in sex without marriage. I've watched romantic comedies on TV from back in the sixties, to ones from this century, and even though they don't show any nudity, the couples engaged in sexual relations even though they were not married. The last comedy that I saw in the theater last year had a major story line where one of the featured characters was the product of an unmarried couple being intimate.

Your criticism of the profanity in the movie Father Stu is utterly ridiculous. If you found the cursing so offensive, then why didn't you just get up and walk out of the movie? There are many movies that use unnecessary vulgarity, violence or sex. Father Stu was not one of them. Just like Saving Private Ryan didn't use unnecessary violence to convey the horror of war. Using "shucks, darn, oh heck" would not have been realistic. Just love it when someone who's been a Christian for a year or two starts moralizing everyone else. Perhaps you should stick with Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and Road Runner until you mature in your faith a lot more. Give us a break.
