Fascinating interview. It reminded me of my son’s experiences. My son flew during Covid to another college campus that was equally remote. There were no busses because of travel limitations so he had to Uber it. The SUV Uber was $275! Then when he got to campus there was no one available (again due to social distancing norms). How he found his building, got his room furnished, etc is still a mystery to my wife and me. We haven’t asked. Just the thought is scary but these kids manage surprisingly well. The cost of living in these small towns isn’t a lot cheaper because there is limited availability of options. Dartmouth has just one or two options. Many landlords especially the corporatized landlords have person per room limits so the students don’t have a choice. Bachelor programs at Thayer are some of the more collaborative among the top schools in the US. Other schools tend to be more competitive while Dartmouth fosters collaboration. So students who enjoy teamwork will prefer Dartmouth to say a Cornell or MIT. Last thing, you never asked her if she went Skiing. Dartmouth virtually owns the mountain! Going skiing is easy there.
What you do, is just incredible! You're making the lives of thousands of student who are planning to move abroad much easier. Thank you Yudi, for such an insightful video.
