    Tying is definitely the way to go. My first litter was docked in 93 and got infected. I began tying mine and teaching others after that. Far less risk of infection, less scare and much less stress on mom and pups! Glad to see some people still do this.

      I own The Dog Breeder Store so will pop in and see if I can help. Try doubling them over the elastrator prongs like you would double a rubber band around a pony tail. That's how we band really tiny tails. We actually recommend a slightly larger band that you can double over, thus resulting in a smaller diameter. Then they don't slip.

The pups should be fine...they just may feel it at first, but once the blood supply is stopped, the end dries up quickly and falls away, along with the nerve endings.

      Ahmonjae, it's called an elastrator. There are some really awful ones out on the market that don't hold up well and can actually break when they are compressed. We make the kit that Cape Fear Cane Corso uses in the video. We have evaluated a lot of different brands, and only use 2 in our kits because we know they are high quality. Here's where you get them. You can either buy the entire Docking Kit with instruction booklet, or you can buy the individual pieces separately. You can even buy the instruction book by itself if you already have the equipment. www.thedogbreederstore.com/Tail-Docking-Dewclaw-Removal-Kit_p_56.html

    Do you remove dewclaws also?

    • @CapeFearCaneCorso
      @CapeFearCaneCorso  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      No. Dewclaws serve important functions for a dog, in running, stopping, turning activity as well as, raw fed dogs use them to hold their food as the rip and tear. They are like thumbs for us.....

    • @CapeFearCaneCorso
      @CapeFearCaneCorso  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      i'd need to see a pic of what you're using. If they are the thick black bands they may roll off, although I've never used them, so I don't know. regular black rubber bands.....not sure what those are...if they are like the tan rubber bands, probably not...I've always used to small 1/8 heavy bands. if you would like you may email me: vglisson@capefearcanecorso.com

    My dog has happy tail, and when I took her to the vet, they said that the very tip of the tail seems to be dead already with no blood flow. So they recommend to cut it off. But I am wondering if I just let it naturally fall off, would that be ok? Granted I’m treating any open wounds properly and not letting her lick it

    • @CapeFearCaneCorso
      @CapeFearCaneCorso  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would probably do what the vet thinks, actually, allowing the dog to lick a wound, a natural instinct, keeps it clean and infection free.

    Seems to me if a person didn't mind a short crop then it could be done at this time too, before nerve endings have taken place and it would be much easier (no anesthesia, no stitches, etc)
