    I used a Hobie my first 5 or 6 trips out in the bays here. Loved how it worked in shallow water but hated how hard it was to use reverse and to keep stable in the wind and current. The 120 AutoPilot has really spoiled me. is that the 106 PDL your in here? Looks like it.

      Thanks for watching. I haven't thought about a cooler bag or researched them at all. I just figured I'd bring along a small cooler if I was going to keep something. Right now in my area about the only thing I'd be keeping is Spanish Mackerel, Mangrove Snapper, Flounder, Pompano or perhaps an occasional Jack Crevalle. I would keep a small Blacktip if I got lucky enough to catch one. Do you have something in mind?

    Thanks JC, very informative. Quick question- how tall are you and is the seat back as far as it will go?? I'm 6'4" and it looks like I'd be a little cramped between the seat the peddle drive, just like riding a bike you want almost full extension of your legs with each stroke of the peddle.

    • @RadReelingFishing
      @RadReelingFishing  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for asking. I just measured the adjustment from where I have it set. I am 5'6" and there's another 9" of adjustment back, BUT the gear tack for the seat can be moved back another couple of inches more if needed by removing a few screws. I'm sure Old Town could field the question better than me, but it appears that it's designed for taller fishermen as well.

      I've owned three Old Town Kayaks. I this video I covered the pros and cons of each: th-cam.com/video/CA3IquDxSz0/w-d-xo.html I only favor the Predator due to the length. I feel that the Predator would be safer to go where there are larger waves than the 106 Sportsman Powered By Minn Kota. The more that I use the 106 though the more I am liking it because of the amount of area I can cover during a day of fishing. Thanks for watching

    @dizzyperon8532 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great review, get a couple pair of wet shoes though. I see hundreds of videos of guys with tennis shoes, or no shoes at all, on their kayaks. That is not healthy. Having no shoes on is a little better but wet feet for an extended period of time is never good.

  • @dmnguye69
    @dmnguye69 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Being a hobie owner I would respectfully disagree that this is the "Best for Fishing". Predominately this PDL is 20+ lb heavier than the outback and the flipper drive is so much lighter and versatile then the propeller drive. If the kayak ever takes in water then the Outback has a hatch infront that you can put in a bilge pump, and concurrently peddle back to safty. This PDL the hatch is all the way in the front, no way you can do that at the same time and make your way back to shore. The turning radius of the Outback definately cuts sharper than what I saw in this video for the PDL. Again the Outback is ~ 600 dollars more expensive, but thanks for sharing the PDL's features.

    • @be891
      @be891 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I respectfully disagree with your comment as well for the following reasons and in no particular order.
      1. More storage in the hull of the Predator.
      2. Easier to stand up from a seated position in the Predator.
      3. PDL drive is faster, more durable and has instant reverse. Hobie use the cheap plastic pull cord to engage the reverse, pull cords that very prone to breaking.
      4. PDL drive also comes with a five year warranty. Last time I checked Hobie mirage drive has a one year warranty.
      5. The predator tracks better than the Hobie.
      6. The integrated front handle is awesome for picking up and moving the kayak, Hobie uses cheap pull cords that will break.
      7. While it is true that the predator is a heavier kayak compared to the Hobie, that is because the hull is a lot thicker, more durable and which comes with lifetime warranty. Hobie hull warranty is five years.
      8. The hull of the Hobie easily deforms in the hot sun and is very squishy when standing on. After a few years the plastic foot pads concave and are not flush with the center hatch. Making it uncomfortable on the feet when standing and fishing.
      9. Off shore both are very capable but the Hobie is a very wet ride compared to the Predator. The predator front end design push water to the sides and the Hobie allows it to come over the bow.
      10. The front hatch on the Hobie does not seal water from the factor. Most have to get another seal installed then you have the issue of the hatch not closing flush with the bow. This was truly a bad design by Hobie and an eye sore.
      11. Paddle holder for the predator is a better design than the Hobie. I have a friend that lost his paddle offshore because of the hull design allows the water to shoot straight up pushed the paddle out wards and the bungee came loose.
      12. The rudder cables on the predator are made of stainless steel while the Hobie use nylon material that is prone to breaking.
      13. The predator is cheaper than the Hobie.
