question, is it normal to have a bit of play on the rack and pinion?. When stopped and rock the steering wheel slightly side to side it makes a bit of a noise. Went to the dealer and they told me it is normal...is it indeed??. It's a Mazda Tribute 2012 Thanks
hi i have an 88 toyota celica who is in need of a new rack and pinion assembly. my question is, is it possible to use other model's(corolla, corona, or camry) rack and pinion assembly for my celica? celica parts here in my country is very hard to find and corollas, coronas are more common here in my country
if the steering column will attach to the rack and pinion it's very possible also depends how wide a corolla is compared to your celica. The linkages to from the rack and pinion are adjustable they need to be in order to control alignment. Even if you get one out of a celica you don't know if it'll be aligned to your car so you'd have to adjust it for an alignment anyways. Another factor is does it have power steering if so does the lines match up on the celica to the corolla rack and pinion I'd look it alot of pictures before had get all the info possible on both and see if it'll work it's not impossible but not saying it is possible lol you'd have to do alot of your own research.
How long can I ride on a bad rack and pinion? Been doing it for 5 years 100k lol I mean I'm not loosing power steering fluid. It drives and steres fine fluid I do hear minor noise when parking etc which got little worse over years I got about 250k on my camry don't want to put money into it besides that car is perfect mechanical condition.
depends on what is bad if it's the power steering portion you can drive it as long as you want to drive it with out the assistance of power steering. If you got wear on the inside it can be dangerous. If you got lose play in the steering wheel you have a issue the steering goes out your screwed.
If reusing the outer tie rod ends DO NOT use a separator. What AZ fails to tell you is that a separator will destroy the boot. A good hammer to the very top of the post or best yet rubber mallet should pop the joint free from the knuckle.
Masterful Bruce Bonebrake! Your vids r priceless

Anyone else notice that all the cars at 1:10 have no front plates ?
wats the big deal???
in @rizona you don't need front plates..... so wat do you mean?
That's wear on the tie rods. A little bit is normal but as it gets worse you'll need to replace the bad tie rods.
bonebrake? thats a bad@$$ name!
@opsvideo2008 wow thanks!! he said that so fast i got lost :D :D
