Part of Worf's character in TNG seemed to be about representing the more aggressive, violent aspects of human nature. Worf's initial recommendations always had something to do with blowing shit up, detaining people, etc. It was sort of a recurring theme in the very politically-correct universe of TNG - that humans had progressed beyond that, and we have to have this boorish Klingon character to remind us of the dumb brutes we used to be. I'm glad Worf grew beyond that purpose later on as a character.
wysoft Wolf only got that chance when he came to a better place......DS9. TNG kept his character stale and stunted. Wolf was manhandle by just about every opponent he faced on TNG.
wysoft The funny thing is, even in TNG, the point Worf's character was supposed to be there to make was undermined quite a bit by the fact that Worf was actually completely right often as not, and they'd have been much better off going along with his reasonable precautions.

+TheCoolProfessor I know there are a lot of Sisko fans in the DS9 crowd so I probably won't earn many points in saying that... I wholistically disagree. DS9 was an amazing show but the thing that held it back most for me was Avery Brooks's performance. His overly breathy dialog any time he was supposed to be 'determined' or his expression of rage any time the character was supposed to be mildly annoyed. I genuinely think he is the worst actor of the main cast of any Star Trek since TOS and with VOY that's saying something. Oh and it probably didn't help that the writers seemed determined to re-attain Picard's status so they constantly overplayed him. Like making him revered for every small decision. He lacked any real character arc to develop his character from a disenfranchised commander after the loss of his wife at Wolf 357 to a respected captain of a key battle-station and ambassador to an embattled people. His character arc was shaving his head and growing a goatee.
+Degrelecence Star Trek traditionally employs Shakespearean actors on purpose. Avery's acting isn't bad, its just unusual when put on a TV screen but that was the point. The actors are supposed to bring a bit of half hammy grandiosity to their performances and its intentional.
Avery Brooks gave us such power and gravitas in his portrayal of a commander you wanted to rally behind. He made skin color so irrelevent that beyond Black Panther, this was the first Black Superhuman. His integrity, his passion, my god.....He channels Bill Shatner and Patrick Stewart. His edge is palpable, and his force of will is contagious. You can already see that this guy is a force to be reckoned with.
You could argue that a character like Sisko portrayed by an actor like Avery is far better for representation and the such as he feels so natural, a normal human like everyone else, the problem with modern attempts at diversity is how single minded and artificial it feels, where instead of being a natural normal inclusion, it feels like an artificial quota or check list, like it is done purely for the feigned and overly pushed appeal to "modern sensibilities". It almost feels in some cases to be false and degrading to those it wishes to include, not having them there for their own merit, but because it is a "requirement".
I wouldn't say it was irrelevant. Avery Brooks has gone on record with the fact that he got a lot of racist backlash from fans of the show, and the final couple seasons introduce episodes specifically about race.
As much as I love Picard, I would really rather see a Sisko series where he comes back from the wormhole and finds the galaxy totally changed. He's by far my favorite captain though so I'm a little biased...
I think that boat has sailed a while ago. Besides it just wouldn't be the same without Odo and Nog. I doubt another actor could do those parts as well.
I didn’t think much of Sisko at the outset of DS9. By the time it ended, he was by far my favorite Captain as well. He may have been the most complex, nuanced character in all of Trek. He certainly was the most fully developed.
Ezri: How did you convince them of that? *Flash to Star Fleet Medical* Sisko: Ezri would be a valuable addition to the DS9 crew. Come on, Voyager got 7. SFM Commander: She has three more months of training. Sisko: Three more months, really? Well, lets talk about -*Starts punching SFM commander.* *Flash to present* Sisko: We talked.
First contact Worf: If you were any other man...I’d kill you where you stand. Picard: Get off my bridge. ----- Worf: If you were any other man...I’d kill you where you stand. Sisko: What’d you say?!! Worf: 😐...Nothing....Who said that?! (Looking around).
I love Avery Brooks' acting in this scene. There are times when he deliver's Sisko's lines with sort of this mixture of delight but also not really caring. Really brings the character to life. The last of the truly vibrant Star Trek captains (other than Georgiou; Michelle Yeoh is incredible).
That she is.......in super cop when she matched a stunt done by Jackie chan-she actually rode a fricking dirt bike onto a moving train and landed on top of it took her multiple tries pretty legendary, while chan did the helicopter stunt.....and in other hong kong movies.....as for "star trek " discovery I aint ever gonna watch that nonsense sir.
I can't say I agree on the Q thing. He gave Q what he wanted when he hit him. Q likes pissing people off. Most show restraint and try to be better than Q. He just slugged him and Q got what he wanted. That's my thoughts on it anyway.
@slashandbones13 - DS9 does not deserve Worf or Q. Terrible show riding on the coattails of TNG. Complete insult to say that Worf would be intimidated by "Sisko." Worf could kill Sisko in a couple seconds.
Bryan Herber Agreed in what reality would Worf ever be intimidated by Sisko maybe one produced by Q, seriously what a stupid pointless notion to have they must have been seriously desperate to masculinize the perception of Sisko lol.
@@rabbitphobia - Vince, I think some of it had to do with race also. They're trying to prop up Sisko cause he's a black guy. The reality is that Worf wouldn't be intimidated by any human, lol. I'm surprised they didn't try to make Worf intimidated by Janeway too, lmao.
"Perhaps I should talk with him." "Absolutely not. You intimidate him." "Me?" Well, sure. What matters is not the size of the dog in the fight but the size of the fight in the dog.
I re-watched DS9 again recently. I was surprised how well the series held up all the way until the end. This was season 7, the final season, for those who don’t know.
I didn't watch DS9 when it first aired and when watching it for the first time years later I knew there was a new Dax introduced in the 7th season. I thought I'd hate it but it turns out I liked Ezri and her presence didn't alter the show negatively at all. I wish we would have gotten to see more of her. Honestly by season 7 of DS9 the writers were in such a groove they probably could have pulled anything off. As it is they made a 1950s Vegas lounge singer a prominent character. That sounds so stupid and ridiculous I can't believe it actually happened. Not only did it happen but it was great!
Sisko constantly has this odd balance between strength, rage, and absolute bonkers crazy. I imagine acting the part would have been either incredibly difficult, or incredibly easy.
I have to admit, between the series and the novels, i have thoroughly enjoyed Ezri Dax's growth. Ensign, Asst. Counselor when we meet her LT (JG), Counselor DS9 LT, Counselor DS9 Transferred to Command Track LT, First Officer USS Defiant LT CDR, Second Officer (Operations), USS Aventine CPT, USS Aventine (Battlefield promotion following death of Captain and First Officer in Borg Invasion; later made permanent) Only one rank skipped, but went through multiple challenges and adventures to grow to where she is now.
I think the terrible juju that grew out of how Terry Farrell was treated in addition to Avery Brooks stepping out of the spotlight/acting career (he is notoriously reclusive) would have made that nearly impossible.
Makes sense. Sisko is one of the few people that can throw down in a fight better than most Klingons. He is a brilliant military strategist and is willing to get a little dirty if needed.
Well he was also promoted to captain of a starship and later a personal adjutant to the fleet admiral and put in command of entire fleets basically making him an acting admiral.
Of course the Sisko intimidates Worf. If Worf doesn't follow an order the Sisko will pull a .357 Python out and say, "It's no a good day to die Jimmy! Push the damn button!"
Frozen Retro, that's not the point though. Sisko knew there was likely a chance that Q would immediately own him, but he did it anyway, no matter how you look at it, that takes balls to essentially punch god. (Considering Q was the one who decided with amino acids did there thing in early earth history to form life, that essentially makes him god.) No one kenw Q would just let him, that includes Sisko himself.
We all know who truly intimidates Worf: It's not Sisko. It's not Picard. It's Helena Rozhenko, his mother. Every man with sense Klingon or not, knows their mother can and has at one time or another did put the fear of God or in Worf's case, Kahless into him more than once. A close second would be Keiko O'Brien if you think about it. Pregnancy and delivery will scare any man, Klingon or otherwise. It got Worf so scared that he wanted to run upon the news of her second baby. We cannot fault Worf for his fear. Like I said, any man is scared of pregnancy and delivery, even a Klingon. LOL
+chrismc410 Pregnancy and delivery, fear at the moment of delivery. Males can't handle the death of a new born or lost of the mother in labor. " Modern / current society seems to refuse to under stand that in low develop birthing locations that both mother and child can be lost within the first 30 min. after birth.
Worf was raised by and among humans. And we have probably all seen at one time or another either in reality or enacted a human woman giving birth. But what about a scene where a Klingon woman gives birth to another warrior? It might look similar to the scenes from the early days where the mother is tied down upon a bed and given little (if any) means of comfort.
tenhirankei That is likely how the Klingons do it. Think about it, an unrestrained in labor Klingon woman would be calling her mate or husband, the father of said child all kinds of petaQ, and would likely try to and some degree, succeed in killing everyone in that room. I could see that happening.
I honestly think only two people could intimidate Worf - Sisko and Picard. And both for similar reasons - two formidable commanders with wills of iron and the capacity for a raging fury that could be ice cold or simmering red hot.
There is one other individual who's very name made Worf look like he wanted to scurry for cover: Keiko O'Brien. Quark: "Did you hear? Keiko is going to have another baby." Worf: (alarmed) "NOW?!?"
I think it was the one time Kira went over Sisko's head and he gave her some friendly advice, "Go over my head again, and I'll have yours on a platter."
Marcus Lundin Janeway would have done much worse. If she had been in the Alpha Quadrant when the Dominion attacked there wouldn’t have been a Great Link at the end of the war.
I get the feeling that the people who hate DS9 only bothered to watch the first two seasons... The show is amazing by season 4, and NO ONE who makes it all the way to the episode "Sacrifice of Angels" will need further convincing.
Sisko was troubled. The first time we meet him he loses his ship, his wife and is instantly a single parent to a baby. The second time we see him, he is assigned to the Trek Equivalent of Syria by the dude that killed his wife. He HATES Starfleet, and he hates his job.... then the Bajorans declaring him a God only made it worse because now he really cant leave. Could you imagine such a set up for Picard or Kirk?
Not even close, Janeway takes that title easily. She threw her crew in solitary confinement, beamed herself aboard a Borg cube, committed multiple genocides, started an inter-dimensional war which destroyed countless lives, flew into the Borg Unicomplex and later traveled back in time to get herself assimilated and commit one last genocide on the Borg for old time’s sake, tried to torture a man to death, and actually killed one of her crew-members herself after their horrified Doctor wouldn’t do it. The woman openly told people she wished she had lived in an earlier time when there were less rules.
Notice how he proceeds to stare into middle distance while saying "perhaps i should have a talk with him." He's already thinking about introducing Worf to his infamous pimp hand.
What's truly hilarious is that Sisko laughing indicates that prior to this moment he thought "Worf intimidates ME" or two "Worf is never intimidated by anyone" maybe even both. Hearing this from Dax probably inflated his ego to the size of a hot air balloon!

And how! Her name is Ezri Dax (played by Nicole de Boer, a Canadian actress of genre film and TV). Only around in Season Seven. Not the best time to jump into the show. Either start with Season One, or (if you're THAT impatient) Season Three. Even then, it's gonna take a while to catch up. If you're interested in getting into the show, but are impatient for novelty, I can tell you which episodes to avoid, at the very least. DS9 requires a hefty commitment, but it's well worth it. And, yes, if you stick around, you'll get a lil' Ezri at the end. She's under-written compared with all the other characters around her (it helps that they've had six years' head start), but I've always preferred her to her Season 1-6 version, Jadzia, who was always too clever and flippant by half to be remotely empathetic. Shows late in their run typically throw in new, young, characters to balance their aging casts and remind viewers of once-younger, cuter characters, but that wasn't a problem with DS9 as they were just replacing their prettiest female cast member with another one.. It helped that the Jadzia actress left of her own volition, so there's nothing wrong about re-casting her. A very organic way to write a new, younger character into the show, and they addressed her youth and comparative inexperience from the very start. She never grows above her station (it would have been unbelievable for her to rival Sisko, Kira, Worf, Odo, O'Brien, or even Jadzia in her talents), she remains a junior officer and the "rookie" on the team, which shows maturity of storytelling. But she's a sympathetic and compelling character when the show calls for it, so she fits into a good niche in the show's final season. DS9 did ensemble like few other sci-fi series of its time or since.
My thoughts on cutest females of DS9 Nicole de Boer (super cute face, love chubby cheeks) Nana Visitor (Nice figure and looks good with short hair) Terry Ferrell (gorgeous eyes)

This is just me but I think Avery Brooks is a very underrated actor. I always thought that after American History X, he should have been a LOT bigger.
Degrelecence I respect your opinion but I feel his performance in American History X was exceptional.
TheCoolProfessor I agree. American History X had nothing except great performances in it. I don't think that excuses his DS9 performance, however.
+Degrelecence Star Trek traditionally employs Shakespearean actors on purpose. Avery's acting isn't bad, its just unusual when put on a TV screen but that was the point. The actors are supposed to bring a bit of half hammy grandiosity to their performances and its intentional.
GetterRay Which makes perfect sense if you ignore the performances of the other 300x people in Star Trek....
Star Trek got race right decades before Black Lives Matter decided to throw everything away and do billions in property damage across major cities.
You need to see a man called hawk
@@Dmarcoot brooks is awesome but that show was a dumpster fire.
He's by far my favorite captain though so I'm a little biased...
problem with that is modern writers would STILL find a way to screw it up.
Had things been different and that Avery Brooks had gotten more roles of a different variety then he could definitely have come back.
Ezri: How did you convince them of that?
*Flash to Star Fleet Medical*
Sisko: Ezri would be a valuable addition to the DS9 crew. Come on, Voyager got 7.
SFM Commander: She has three more months of training.
Sisko: Three more months, really? Well, lets talk about -*Starts punching SFM commander.*
*Flash to present*
Sisko: We talked.
sounds legit.

Worf: 😐...Nothing....Who said that?! (Looking around).
Different writers contradicting each other. Michael Dorn should have said something about this inconsistency.
@@danielhicks4826 Georgiou is hands down the best part of that show, she carries it
@@danielhicks4826 And she learned to ride a motorcycle specifically for that stunt.
worf is imtimidated for the same reason Q only appeared once in this show, on Deep Space 9 sisko is the boss and no one will deny him that
I can't say I agree on the Q thing. He gave Q what he wanted when he hit him. Q likes pissing people off. Most show restraint and try to be better than Q. He just slugged him and Q got what he wanted. That's my thoughts on it anyway.
Sisko would whoop your ass.
This relationship is so strange. On the one hand, Sisko acts as if he was Ezris father, while also being her best friend. Much fun!
+MakaraTube Curzon was Sisko's mentor, Jadzia was his friend, and Ezri was his pupil.
Trills are great for good writers.
+Sid Subrahmanyam I know ^^
The Father figure thing could work too since at least from what was shown in a later ep Ezri's father is out of the picture.
"Perhaps I should talk with him."
"Absolutely not. You intimidate him."

Sisko, then maybe Kirk and Picard, and, I can't think of anyone else.
Mario Quade
Kirk wasn't intimidating to them he just pissed them off to no end....

True
Commander Riker comes to mind, for some strange reason.
Sisko intimidating Worf is proof he’s the biggest badass in Starfleet.
Sisko's laugh makes grass grow.
I re-watched DS9 again recently. I was surprised how well the series held up all the way until the end. This was season 7, the final season, for those who don’t know.
Priceless! When he start laugthing i could not stop but to join in...
I missed Jadzia, but Ezri was a great character that I'm glad we got to see.
The fact Ezri was only on the show for 1 season and yet feels so much more like an equal to Jadzia really shows how good of a job she did
I'm not sure ezri is on the same lvl as jadzia

Sisko constantly has this odd balance between strength, rage, and absolute bonkers crazy. I imagine acting the part would have been either incredibly difficult, or incredibly easy.
0:24 is like an outtake which Avery Brook unintentionally cracks up laughing.
I have to admit, between the series and the novels, i have thoroughly enjoyed Ezri Dax's growth.
Ensign, Asst. Counselor when we meet her
LT (JG), Counselor DS9
LT, Counselor DS9
Transferred to Command Track
LT, First Officer USS Defiant
LT CDR, Second Officer (Operations), USS Aventine
CPT, USS Aventine (Battlefield promotion following death of Captain and First Officer in Borg Invasion; later made permanent)
Only one rank skipped, but went through multiple challenges and adventures to grow to where she is now.
Avery Brooks was fantastic as Captain Benjamin Sisko. DS 9 should have had a stand alone movie. It was a great series.
I think the terrible juju that grew out of how Terry Farrell was treated in addition to Avery Brooks stepping out of the spotlight/acting career (he is notoriously reclusive) would have made that nearly impossible.
For some humans, there can’t be a greater gift than knowing you can intimidate a Klingon
Makes sense. Sisko is one of the few people that can throw down in a fight better than most Klingons. He is a brilliant military strategist and is willing to get a little dirty if needed.
Sisko gets right to the point and tells you the truth. That is why he is in charge of a Space Station!
Well he was also promoted to captain of a starship and later a personal adjutant to the fleet admiral and put in command of entire fleets basically making him an acting admiral.
I love how Sisko's mentor is living out lives as young attractive women. Such a good dynamic.
Erzi was SMOKING HOT 🔥🔥🔥❤😁😁😁😁😁
Of course the Sisko intimidates Worf. If Worf doesn't follow an order the Sisko will pull a .357 Python out and say, "It's no a good day to die Jimmy! Push the damn button!"
I loved this scene it came just so naturally.
He punched Q that's intimidating as it gets
"You hit me ?! Picard never hit me!"
"I'm not Picard."
I just brought that up in another comment just before I read yours.
Q: "How fortunate for me."
Frozen Retro, that's not the point though. Sisko knew there was likely a chance that Q would immediately own him, but he did it anyway, no matter how you look at it, that takes balls to essentially punch god. (Considering Q was the one who decided with amino acids did there thing in early earth history to form life, that essentially makes him god.)
No one kenw Q would just let him, that includes Sisko himself.
That's why I like Sikso better then Picard
The lighting makes it look like an orb experience.
That awkward moment when an evil spirit takes over your wife and nobody notices.
And Loxana Troi
Sisko: Son, Brother, Father. His three relationships with Dax.
I mean - fuck - the Sisko intimidates everyone...
"The war certainly hasn't been good for morale."
Brilliant insight, sir.
Ezri's so cute. And Sisko could intimidate anyone at this point.
this is why this show was the best. A nice little character bit and then we move back to the business of the plot. Perfect
It always warms my heart that Sisko and Dax had this relationship that spanned lifetimes.
When I saw the title of this video I had pretty much the same reaction Sisko had with the same idea!
The Sisko character has a bit of Hawk in him and that's intimidating.
No. Hawk from Spenser For Hire.
billyboy385
I thought of Hawk from Buck Rogers was more of Spock clone.
Chance Damont No. Hawk's race showed emotion no different than Humans unlike Spock's Vulcans.
Lt. Hawk, the borg drone?
No. The Hawk played by Avery Brooks in the 80's.
0:29 The way he goe back to serious... Only to almost bite his own lips to not laught again... Just the range of this actor...
I honestly think only two people could intimidate Worf - Sisko and Picard. And both for similar reasons - two formidable commanders with wills of iron and the capacity for a raging fury that could be ice cold or simmering red hot.
Whereas Janeway is a stone-cold killer.
There is one other individual who's very name made Worf look like he wanted to scurry for cover: Keiko O'Brien.
Quark: "Did you hear? Keiko is going to have another baby."
Worf: (alarmed) "NOW?!?"
Ezri out here talking wreckless with worf’s secrets lol
Just think.. she has hundreds of years of SKILLS and in a weird way know EXACTLY what a man would want.
She should seeing as how she was male though I suspect the female side of her makes her think she knows more than she does.
God , I love Ben so much. Best captain ever....
Damn Sisko give em hell
"Come on: I've been a man, I know!"- LOL! I SOOO felt that.🖤💋😜😂
There was one episode where Sisko was Klingon at he did looked more badass then Worf.Beside even Kira was intimidated by Sisko.
I think it was the one time Kira went over Sisko's head and he gave her some friendly advice, "Go over my head again, and I'll have yours on a platter."
I bet Gowron was secretly terrified of Sisko
Makes sense, of all the non Klingon crew sent on the mission in "Apocalypse Rising", Sisko was the only convincing Klingon.
"I've been a man, I know".....that line hits differently nowadays
ezri is just too damn adorable
Sisko was built different.
Sisko is badass, no other capitain would dare to do what he did in "In the Pale Moonlight".
Marcus Lundin Janeway would have done much worse. If she had been in the Alpha Quadrant when the Dominion attacked there wouldn’t have been a Great Link at the end of the war.
If I wanted to intimidate someone, Sisko would definitely be my go-to-guy.
Well this is the same man who punched Q square in the face so intimidating worf Isn’t that out of the realm of possibility
Ezri and Sisko are both so great. 💞💞
I get the feeling that the people who hate DS9 only bothered to watch the first two seasons... The show is amazing by season 4, and NO ONE who makes it all the way to the episode "Sacrifice of Angels" will need further convincing.
I think every version of Star Trek sucked balls in the first season or two then got way better
@@Slevin-Kelevra I agree

Well, Sisco is the only person to serve Picard a plate of cold shoulder.
Out of all the captains. It's got to be said Ben is the most intimidating
Cailean Morrison Not really. He's more of a gloomy gus. He always looks depressed to me.
+Paulinda Dokey
In order to be a badass you have to brood
Sisko was troubled. The first time we meet him he loses his ship, his wife and is instantly a single parent to a baby. The second time we see him, he is assigned to the Trek Equivalent of Syria by the dude that killed his wife.
He HATES Starfleet, and he hates his job.... then the Bajorans declaring him a God only made it worse because now he really cant leave.
Could you imagine such a set up for Picard or Kirk?
+Jack Martinez the plan the prophets laid out for him! bastards!

It should be a federal law against a girl bieng that cute.
great show. top notch cast
Wonder why he wouldn’t want her around.... Been there 5 minutes and she’s already yappin behind his back
Notice how he proceeds to stare into middle distance while saying "perhaps i should have a talk with him."
He's already thinking about introducing Worf to his infamous pimp hand.
That laugh was so good.
What's truly hilarious is that Sisko laughing indicates that prior to this moment he thought "Worf intimidates ME" or two "Worf is never intimidated by anyone" maybe even both. Hearing this from Dax probably inflated his ego to the size of a hot air balloon!
Sisko = Awesome. That is all.
Let's not also forget when Sisko Poisoned an entire planet, just to prove a point and beat the rebels. Worf was looking at him like "uuhhh....".
I never noticed Nicole De Boer's eyes before-there so big and blue.
felpin well her name is De Boer. That’s a Dutch name (means the farmer) so she probably has some Western European blood in her so it makes sense
It's because, Worf knows that Sisco once had a job making blue barrels.
Notice how the overhead light comes on as soon as he starts talking about "THE WAR". I wonder if that is supposed to mean anything.
+George Pierson That is a form of copyright protection called MacroVision. It is in the blanking bar (on televisions) above the picture & consists of 5 white boxes that appear intermittently & "fools" the retrace into altering contrast. RiaRadioFMHD773 OK. I thought that it was some sort of spiritual thing since he is supposed to be "The Emissary". :)
1:55 same thing happened to Troi
He enjoyed that…. 😏
Sisko: When did he start to be intimidated by me?
Dax: He said that one time you were both in the gym locker room...
So I have never watched DS9, but MY GOD who is that lady? She is SUPER CUTE!!
Jadzia Dax (her previous host) was hotter.
@ben Smith ,
Way hotter
