Excellent! Tyndale utterly transformed the people's minds and lives. His last words were Lord, open the eyes of the King of England, or something like that. God did! This man's life is valuable beyond compare! Now one can see a clear division between the Roman Hierarchy, and the Biblical faith of the true Saints. Unfortunately, many Christian "churches " have degenerated to that same form of doctrine that Rome always promotes. Salvation is by repentance and trust in God's grace, in his word! And not an organization, however "Christian " it poses itself to be. Thanks for your history lesson! I'm a new sub. May God bless you and all HIS PEOPLE!
I am going to try and buy this Tyndale just need more address details. I want my grandchildren to have a copy so that they know what a blessing Tyndale was.
Fascinating! I had not considered the tremendous impact of how Tyndale had translated those five words. Your presentation is rich and thought provoking. On a lighter note, I could not help but marvel that, centuries later in our time, anyone could easily obtain and freely display a Tyndale Bible without any consequence whatsoever; I think that I'll get a copy and display it on the coffee table just because I can!
Amen! But read it too. There are little words here and there that come out to you that may have been lost later on as spelling and grammer changed and grew.
I printed a Picture of him and put it in my house. I thank god for that man of God for Dedicated his life to transaction the bible to English. He inspired me to let God use me how ever he wants like William Tyndale did.
I'm a Wesleyan clergyman. It has always amazed me, how some clergy...large numbers, no less...work hard to prevent the spread of the Gospel. They have a vested interest in preventing regular folks from knowing what is in the Bible. In my former increasingly-liberal denomination, clergy have deemphasized Bible study and stopped sending evangelistic missionaries to foreign countries. And I think I understand why. If laity know the Bible, they will see through clergy's self-serving, erroneous teaching and preaching. Some things don't change.
Great video, especially appreciated the 5 words theme. I've always considered Tyndall to be a man sent by God at the exact time that he was needed. In the movie, "A Return to Grace", the writers emphasized that he was martyred for his version of the N.T. ,( as well as proclaiming the adultery of Henry VIII ) and that Henry the VIII later approved his version for the modern bibles of the time. The fact that our modern bibles are so influenced by his version speaks to his special gift. I thank God for this man.
Thanks Dr. Parris! Very informative video. As I think of those five 'little words,' the thought comes to mind: the same five words that caused Tyndale to loose his life, brings life to so many today. I pray all is well! Take care! Peace!
Dave, thanks for this! There is so much to that time. One big factor was that moment of transition still moving from Middle to Early Modern English and the language being regarded as backward and useless. There had already been fully authorized translations into French, for instance, so it was not just that all Bible translation was banned by the RC Church. So part of the story is the marginalization of the English language and Britain in general, along with the ferment of the Reformation. Then the wild politics of the age! Along with the advent of the printing press, there is a really rich heritage in this history, with so many moving parts.
Professor, you always do a great job expounding on the Word; now your videos are even better than when I was in your class, and this mini-lesson was awesome. Thank you so much for sharing.

It is. For the King James Version. It is an index of every word in the King James not a translation tool or dictionary. So if you want to find every instance of the word ‘moon’ (or any other word used in the KJV) it is an excellent tool. Also it is keyed to the Textus Receptus not more recent Greek texts mainly because it was done in 1890 before we had the UBS or NA texts.
How many people could read at the time this book was translated? If you can't read the words for yourself, you are still hearing someone else's interpretation.
Literacy was rapidly spreading during this time. Also most of the time reading was a group activity (not individual like today). So if you couldn’t read, or read well, you could listen as someone else read. It was a lot like music. Today we can listen to it by ourselves. Back then you had to be with others who could play it to experience music.
Actually he was executed more for going against Henry VIII divorce of Catherine of Aragon and trump up charges of heresy. Also wasn't Eramus a Catholic who translated the Textus receptus which is the basis for KJV.
Tyndale's "The Practice of Prelates" was one of the reasons for his execution. But the long dispute over his translation and making the Bible available in English were what led up to that. And Tyndale did make use of Erasmus' Greek text for his translation work. Thanks for the thoughtful comments and questions.
It would seem that he translated gods name as well, Jehovah. That would be the most important. Knowing the name of God is the doorway to knowing God himself.
YHWH are the letters that came from from the original Hebrew. So do you think we have to fill in the vowels ourselves or just believe the popular translation? I have always wondered about this.
If Tyndale knew Hebrew language why didn't he compare Hebrew language instead of Greek language mythology never knew why most priest & Christians ppl don't know hebrew
It the Latin Vulgate it is charity (caritas in Latin): 1 Cor 13:13 "Nnunc autem manet fides spes caritas tria haec maior autem his est caritas." This was the Bible that was officially (and legally) used by the church in England prior to Tyndale.
@@TheCaffeinatedBible Please, Sir, tell me if charity was always in the Bibles, weather old or new printed ones, because lots of people, myself included, remember "love, faith and hope and above all is love".
@@NarcInjury-y1x Your memory is correct - but you are remembering our current Bibles in English. What make Tyndale stand out is that he was one of the first to translate the Bible into English from Greek (why he chose love not the Latin charity) and set the stage for the English Reformation. This is what the video was about, not our current English translations - which we inherit from Tyndale to a large extent - and which is why you remember 1 For 13 the way you do. His impact has been long and lasting.
@@TheCaffeinatedBible Thank you for reply! One of Bible's "Mandela effect" went out of the window. It's a bit difficult for me to understand English words and history, but strangely enough the exactly same translations are happening in my language (Romanian).
@@NarcInjury-y1x That's interesting, and perhaps understandable since Romania has a strong Roman and Latin history behind it. How does the Romanian Bible translate the English word for Love in this verse? I'm interested to know.
@charlie-girl72 Isaiah 40:22...look it up. The word in Hebrew is translated "Sphere or Circle." Science has backed this up countless times. You can chose to ignore the Bible & Science if you want.

Tynesdale "translated" according to his wishes. It's like modern judges calling the constitution a living document and twisting it to their liberal agenda.
Need to read more on Tyndale. He was an incredibly gifted linguist whose work still impacts our use of English to this day and really not fair to compare him to our current Supreme Court
Gray Mann, you think that the Roman Catholic Church's Douay-Rheims Bible or Latin Vulgate were not translated according to the whim of the popes of the Vatican? If you've done your homework, you should know that the Roman Church has multiple translations and that when Jerome was commissioned to translate a new version from the Latin Vulgate, he found errors in the older (Catholic) version. The oldest manuscripts have the word for "Peter" in Greek as "Petros." Rome changed it to "Petra" although this would make Peter "feminine" since "Petra" is feminine in Latin. Petros means small stone or pebble. Rome knew that if they kept his name as "Petros," they wouldn't be able to claim that their Church was built on him. Too bad some people can point the finger at one church or bible translation and can't see their own church or bible translations' errors. Even the word baptism was mistranslated by Rome. They knew that it originally meant "submersion" or "immersion." That's why, originally, Catholics were submerged in water rather than sprinkled. If sprinkling were the correct way than John the Baptist would not have brought Jesus down into the Jordan to baptize him.
@@TheCaffeinatedBible , your response to Gray Mann was great. However, I don't think he even cared. He sounds like he's Catholic and could care less if Tyndale was a master linguist.
@@phunter24 easy on the catholics....we're not all evil or blind. I'm baptized that but not practicing. And tbh, that's about as irritating as calling all people who live in a mobile home, trailer trash. Please think before you do the opposite of what God wants you to do? God bless...
That was not a Tyndall bible....the whole point of him being executed by the crown , church and state was because he was secretly translating the bible from the Latin version you just seen to an English version any self educated student would easily grasp and understand . Latin was only taught to the ruling class but the rulers needed subjects that understood the chore that was supposed to be accomplished for the administrative actions delegated to them as subjects by there masters executive orders .Tyndall mastered their language and then translated it into a story that's as easy as a James Paterson novel or the kids menu at McDonald's....or as easy as listening to an old dude who has more energy than a bullet in flight and 10 times the honor and patriotism then an evil middle class cackling prosecutor could conjure up at a Dante Allegeri enferno party w Freddy Kruger as dj and top child molester recruitment agent for the O,Billarys That was not a Tyndall bible. Plus the very first page of a Tyndall has a cryptic and powerful note by him ,the author , who gladly sat in his cell knowing that once he finished his translating from Latin to English he like Jesus was going to be executed as a heretic..so he sat in secrecy by candle light scribing the word that he was to be executed for speaking . Thank God for God's people and their willingness to be in a conspiracy against their governments and employers , just so common people could read and interpret something so small as God's words lo and behold that bible was secretly written and then safely spirited away by a corrupt jailer who was eager to help the doomed Tyndall get his works done .....They killed mr. Tyndall, but in the end he goes down as a saint or a martyr or a man of principal ...No matter that was not a Tyndall ....D
Its is The LORD in most translations. And it is a translation for a word that makes no sense in Hebrew. The use of all caps in most translations is meant as a heads-up that YHWH was the Hebrew behind this translation.
@@TheCaffeinatedBible Of course the word makes no sense since it's a name. YHWH is how this name was written since there were no voyels in ancient hebrew, YHWH was simply one of the Elohims (the so called "Gods") of the Bible. Their boss was Elyon (who was not God either) and YHWH was submitted to him, see the real transaltion of Deuteronomy 32:8-9 : "“When Elyon gave each nation its heritage, when he divided the human race, he assigned the boundaries of peoples according to the sons of the Elohims. But YHWH’s share was his own people, Jacob his allotted heritage." Elyon has been ridiculously translated as "The Most High", YHWH translated as "The Lord" and Elohim as "God" in a disgusting attempt to make us believe that the so called "old testament" is talking about a unique God. The real God, whom Jesus called his Father or "the Father", has nothing to do with these degenerate creatures. Jesus said several times to the Jews that the old testament was "THEIR scrpitures", not His word or "the word of God". Soon or latter you'll have to understand and admit that the Bible is not the word of God, you can know God only through what Jesus told us about Him.
Sorry ! Oh it is Saint Thomas Moore ! Stop with this protestant superiority because of Freedom to interpret what you wish in the way you wish ! The Douay Rheims Catholic Bible is the most accurate and True there is.

@@TheCaffeinatedBible that brings up a lot of questions about manuscript validity. Have you heard of the Septuagint?
Yep. Even taught courses on the Greek grammar in it (slightly different than the NT).
Thanks for your comments and interaction.
@@TheCaffeinatedBible yep, you too. Happy new years
8:59 and this separation of church from state came to fruition to us as individuals by the very end of the second great awakening, 1845.
No matter what translation, we need theHoly Spirit to understand.
Sounds pretty POLITICAL
The Geneva Bible rocks!!!
If Tyndale knew Hebrew language why didn't he compare Hebrew language instead of Greek language mythology never knew why most priest & Christians ppl don't know hebrew
That is why we need the Holy Spirit. We don't need to have a human to tell us what the bible.says.
It was NEVER the charity. It was love, faith and hope.
I'm Dutch.. and freemasonry is very much there. For a looong time
I wonder why the KJV switched back to 'charity'
2 samuel 11:11 FLAT EARTH..I'm flat Earther since 2015. And I was convinced by this truth. Before I knew of this Edition. To me a great confirming!
Isaiah 40:22 "There is one who dwells above the CIRCLE of the earth".
The Bible & Science does not support the idea of a flat earth.
Other translations say Sphere also
@@yfzjoe tyndale First English translation they killed him for it...think nowhere in bible says GLOBE ever.. bible says does not move also
@@yfzjoe no sphere in bible ever btw look it up
@charlie-girl72 Isaiah 40:22...look it up. The word in Hebrew is translated "Sphere or Circle." Science has backed this up countless times. You can chose to ignore the Bible & Science if you want.
When does God's law come into play? thy shall not kill, Christians men were judge, juror, prosecutor & executioner, as of today! It's their way or noway.
Will SOMEBODY please submit their evidence to the Nobel Committee for verification, that God even exists!
Wars will never have a chance of stopping, until this is definitely solved!!!
So, submit the proof, get $1million prize too! That's what Jesus would do to end suffering, right. RIGHT? 😅
You Missed The Part in 2 Samuel 11:11 Where He Also Says Flat Earth. I guess That's 7 Words.
I will have to go and check that one out. Thx
I saw nothing that even came close to saying flat earth. I will look at other versions in the morning.
Tyndale was not executed by the Catholic church Would you accept a Jehovah's Witness Bible as authentic
*JESUS CHRIST IS MY LORD.*
Are those the five words?
Why am I not dead?
It is by His grace.
Five words in each line.
Count them if you want.
It’s 5 words. But not the ones that got Tyndale burned at the stake.
Actually he was working off Erasmus’ Greek NT and did not translate in a Dutch prison cell. A quick search on Google for his history would help.
Thomas More had the gift of interpretation of tongues. Tyndale didn't.
Wish I had thought of this one. 👍
The most important false translation of "the Bible" is YHWH in "The Lord". YHWH is not God The Father.
@@Mr_Friendly_B Truth!!! In case you didn't yet, please watch Scriptural Truth' vids, there's even a bigger deception.
@@NarcInjury-y1x Which is? That YHWH ("The Lord") is the devil?
They were heretics
Sorry ! Oh it is Saint Thomas Moore ! Stop with this protestant superiority because of Freedom to interpret what you wish in the way you wish ! The Douay Rheims Catholic Bible is the most accurate and True there is.
Thank you!
