Dean Martin's hometown of Steubenville, Ohio on his 100th birthday

Dean Martin was born 9 days after President John F. Kennedy. JFK was born into a family of wealth, privilege, and political power in Brookline, MA. Dean Martin was baptized Dino Crocetti in Steubenville, Ohio. His father was a barber. But each man rode different trains to the top of their professions. Dean Martin outlived JFK by 32 years, and achieved his greatest fame and fortune through nobody's help and nobody's favors. It was done by being himself in a world of plastic and false promises. Tom takes a quick visit to Dean's hometown to see where it was all launched 100 years before Tom arrived in Steubenville.

My dad grew up in Steubenville. He was a few years younger than Dean. Also very near the railroad tracks and very near the Ohio river. He always said what a beautiful voice Dean had.

As a child when visiting Ohio relatives in the neighboring counties around Steubenville, we always made a visit. These days now living near Steubenville, I've noticed its lost its class and income. It does however still have a little hidden jem 🍝 a cute little Italian restaurant called Naples that you just have to try if you are in the area 💕

I would have thought that the facade of the mountain would have been changed since Dean's Birth with the addition of routes 2 and 7. Sadly, so much of the residential architecture in the downtown area has been lost.
