    What a show, reminds me of when people had fun and enjoyed life, sadly, those days are gone. by today's standards this show would be considered politically incorrect

    Dean feels so out of his element here. The joy of the showing up once a week and crashing on the piano that Ken Lane was playing! I’ve studied Dean a lot and it seems the depression was kicking in before the death of his son. But when that hit, as much as tried to say the right things in an interview with a British woman in 1987, you could feel the energy was sucked out of him: love the guy. But somehow from 1974 on, there’s a certain sadness in watching him if you love him (not counting Cannoball Run).

      Agree. From 1965 to 74 Dean was always smiling when singing and having a great time. Think his third marriage was a big mistake . He was a private quiet man and Jeannie and their kids meant the world to him. They understood him by books I've read. regrets. No doubt he still dated after his third marriage but ended up going back home. Pics of him and his family in 1980 seemed happier times agian until his sons death in 87

    It wasn't a special. It was a series that lasted a few episodes before being canceled. Dean had been a big hit, even reaching #1 at one point, then slipped, as is always inevitable on TV. NBC canceled Dean's Thursday night show and revamped it into Dean's Place and put it on Fridays. There's a slap-dash careless look to it (the announcer even said "Sherman Hensley"), and the hyperactive laugh track that suggests his long-time producer didn't have much faith in this project. Dean was more than ready to retire from weekly television. He was a quiet man who liked to be alone, and was sad long before the tragic death of his son Dean Paul.

    • @wadebarnett2542
      @wadebarnett2542 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I don't think he really ever had a "club." I think this was just an available location used for the special. There was the restaurant named for him. He was attached to it in some way.

      Dean Martin did have his Italian Restaurant on Sunset Blvd. With his face lit up in Neon. I remember it because my parents went there for dinner, and took me with them. It was very nice to be sure !
