Andy Farrell blasts the 'disgusting' treatment of his son Owen Farrell

  • Ireland head coach Andy Farrell has branded the “circus” around son Owen Farrell’s disciplinary process “absolutely disgusting”.
The England captain’s participation in the World Cup is in fresh doubt after World Rugby appealed against the decision to overturn his red card from Saturday’s clash with Wales.
An independent disciplinary panel caused an outcry on Tuesday when it cleared 31-year-old Farrell to play following his shoulder-led tackle to the head of Taine Basham, which was expected to result in a significant ban.
England head coach Steve Borthwick has subsequently opted to leave the Saracens fly-half out of his squad for Saturday’s World Cup warm-up clash against Ireland in Dublin.
Farrell senior, who concedes his view on the situation is not impartial, expressed anger at some of the intense criticism his son has faced. #RWC2023

The only thing disgusting is the way Owen was NOT banned, but many other players have received very bad news who won't be able to go play in the RWC for being banned for a few weeks, even with LESS dangerous play. And yet, this guy gets a free out of jail card. So no, the world is not creating a damn circus because of Farrell as a person, but because of the absolute crap and corruption of these officials and the way they ban other players, and Farrell just free to play. Ask this question of the IRFU or WR but to ask a father about his sons likley ban from the world cup is ridiculous. The tackle was bad, defonate Ted and worthy of a ban. Should rest there.
The panel making the decision were weak and have created a massive mess of the game by failing to act, because of this there is deflection on Farrell that is not fair. He should have have his suspension and everyone would have accepted it. There were NO mitigating circumstances to reduce beyond an apology, this is not good enough for a repeat offender. By the nature of how many times this has happened there is an argument for adding weeks. The decision not to is not Farrels, and its easy to be angered, but we should be smart and mature enough to recognise where the failings really are, and that is the bias or corruption within the systems of the game.

Owen is not certainly a model of sportsmanship, but he is not the problem. The only disgusting thing here is the Rugby World kybala/ Kabala , the one who allowed him to do that for years without supporting any consequences... exactly AS IT HAPPENED DURING THE LATE RICHIE McCAW ERA when New Zealand HAD TO BE THE BEST TM IN THE WORLD and when Craig Joubert , the RW's hit man, assassinated France in the 2011 final or Scotland in the 2015 quarter final. We also had some debatable events in 2019 RWC... For years now, all the energies are directed against teams like Springboks or France (maybe Scotland too). Now when NZ and England are not really the safest horses on the race, the flags are up for Ireland. Great team, but we saw the way the games against the two "public enemies" have been refereed . What's going on today is the consequence of this silent warfare. Just watch the poois and it's enough to understand that they were designed and scheduled to bring down Springboks - the number one menace - and France somewhere in the process and give a chance to England and to the loyal Australians fellows... It was no drawing lots, just engineered drawing lots. Boers will never be forgiven for their resiliency... Don't worry Zulu and Xhosa learned their lesson and will never betray their history again. This is the part where unexpectedly the rugby get linked to the geopolitics, gold, diamonds, etc. Every WC won by the Springboks will keep this fascinating country not falling apart and the greedy bastards away from its wealth... But now there is hope; if rugby can't do it, the Russians, the Chinese & Co. will help them to face the forces of the darkness. So RWC WINNERS OR NOT hopefully they will survive as the RAINBOW NATION! Hopefully! Alleluia

Wow reading comments Andy Farrell is spot on.
Irrespective of if you like Owen Farrell or not, when did rugby fans become so hysterical and emotional that vilifying a player like this has become acceptable by posters who like to proclaim that rugby is unique and superior in its values over other sports like football.
I dont see any difference between rugby or football fans comments, both attack players for reasons real or imaginary.

Owen Farrell may be unpopular, but his disciplinary stats at 10 and 12 are comparable with everybody elses and better than an awful lot.
His technique in split second decisions can be poor, but that doesn't make him a monster.
Frankly, I'm 56 and remember these sort of tackles happening 10 times a game when I was playing. Worried that the game is imploding under all of these rules and online witch hunts.

Tell me another international 10 or 12 that consistently goes high. Stop the cap. Farrell is a captain and supposedly went to tackle school after his last hit. The system isn't perfect but why did a Japanese player miss time when it was pretty much the same hit Farrell does.

I’m an England fan and like Farrell and my own thoughts is the tackle he made was a red HOWEVER I’m not a rugby law expert, and if the panel said it was a yellow then I accept that as they are the experts not me.
Owen is the most universally hated international rugby player and there’s telegraph articles from years ago which clearly state that. So now that the masses have smelt blood this whole thing has become trial by social media. It is a circus.
