I've watched all kind of videos and this is the only one that tells you what it sounds like if your starter relay is good or bad. Mine is constantly clicking when trying to start. My battery may be too low as it's been sitting for 6 months

I keep seeing everywhere that if you only get one click it is the relay with no mention of it potentially ever being the starter. I tried a new relay and still only one click. I have 12v coming from terminal post on relay that goes to starter when I push start button, however, it doesnt even try to turn over, just clicks once. Hooked up a new starter using ski battery to test and starter works. Sounds like its the starter then for sure?

Try jumping solenoid by crossing terminals with a screw driver. If your starter cranks over then it’s something up stream electrically if nothing cranks replace starter.

Question: I changed the relay and now the ski tires to start ( but does not turn over without even using a lanyard. And after I push off on the starter button there is a loud humm that stays on for what feels like a minute. It sounds like its coming from the back of the ski. The battery is at 12. 65 Any ideas of what to do next?

Thanks for watching, any update? Where is your electrical box located…?…rear of hull.
We recommend opening electrical box again and double checking that nothing is loose, wet, damaged, or burnt.
We also recommend checking the positive and negative cables feeding out of box and connecting to the starter and ground location of engine.
Your starter may have parasitic power after engine shut down and is slowly spinning inside… however, not fast, nor powerful enough to engage bendix into engine.

  • @chadvelvick5266
    @chadvelvick5266 ปีที่แล้ว +1

What could be this problem? I push the start button and the starter engages, the engine turns over for a partial second then the starter drops out. I can release the starter button and when pushed again it does the same thing as many times as you'd wish to try. Removed the battery, charged and reinstalled. No change. Thoughts?

We are happy to help. 2 year old battery should still be good. We are leaning toward the starter relay being intermittently charged during start sequence and because of that, fading out during the start sequence.
If you replace relay and issue continues, do you notice or hear any knocking or thumping during startup?
If your knock-sensor is detecting a knock or thump during startup, it will cut the power to the starter and shutdown engine.
Or… if you have no knocking or thumping during engine start… you might have a faulty knock-sensor that is claiming you have knocking when you don’t…and shutting down the start sequence.
Or you have a weak/worn out Starter.

Thanks for the reply, we can hopefully help you. The DIY community is the BEST and working on jet skis is something we enjoy.
When you attempt to start jet ski, do you hear the starter clicking that is attached to the actual engine or is it indeed coming from the starter relay itself located inside electrical box?
If the click is indeed coming from the starter relay, we would start by replacing your starter relay.

@@DIYwithMichaelBorders Hi. Thanks for replying. I picked up this Tiger Shark as a project. Was all in pieces. I took apart and cleaned all of the electrical connections. I did some troubleshooting. I believe the start stop switch to be functioning properly. Battery is older but appears to have good voltage. I jumpered the solenoid connections with a screwdriver and got it to turnover and run. Because the solenoids are pretty reasonably priced I just ordered one. I took the old one apart but couldn’t really see anything suspicious. I guess I’ll know for sure next week when the new solenoid arrives. Thanks.

Good morning, thanks for watching. Any update?
Gurgling on startup with engine actually firing up is usually due to water inside portions of the engine that it’s not supposed to be in.
Example would be water inside combustion chamber…which hopefully is not what’s going on with your engine.
Do you see any signs of fuel leaking?
