Diddy Kong Racing - Unlock Drumstick and T.T.

- A guide/walkthrough of how to unlock Drumstick and T.T. in "Diddy Kong Racing" for the Nintendo 64.
I recommend using either Pipsy, Tiptup, or Diddy Kong. I also recommend drifting, even if you're using either Pipsy or Tiptup.
Green boost trick is important. After letting go of the accelerator before hitting a Zipper, wait UNTIL the multicolored smoke disappears from the green boost, and THEN accelerate again. For those who are still having trouble, I highly recommend switching from the course map to the speedometer. It shows how fast you're going, and it's really helpful. If you unintentionally get a purple boost, it's essentially the same as the green boost.
Bananas are also important, as they increase the character's top speed. Try to collect around 6 to 10 bananas by the end of the 1st lap. Even if you do the green boost trick correctly, the bananas are still important, especially for certain tracks, such as Fossil Canyon and Crescent Island. Without those bananas, you'll have a very hard time in those tracks.
In Darkmoon Caverns, the first Zipper can cause problems. If you have trouble trying to avoid crashing into the ceiling after getting a green boost, then just settle with an intentional purple boost.
Car tips:
To drift, turn first, and then hold the R button. During that time, turning can be controlled. Braking while drifting is required, especially for heavy characters.
Hovercraft tips:
Only use the R button for sharp turns. DO NOT hold the R button when going straight forward. Do not hold Down on the analog stick either. Doing either of those things WILL decrease speed.
Plane tips:
To turn sharper, use the R button. To do an upwards loop-de-loop, tap the R button twice. To do a downwards loop-de-loop, hold Up, and then tap the R button twice. During that time, depending on how long the R button is held, it can last up to 1 second. After that, it finishes with a boost. To do a barrel roll, hold either Left or Right, and then tap the R button twice. While doing barrel rolls continuously, let go of the accelerator for greater boosting.
LIGHTWEIGHT HOVERCRAFT NOTE: Lightweight characters are bad with the hovercraft. However, there are two ways to race better with the hovercraft as either Pipsy or Tiptup. #1, hopping and turning slightly with the R button will reduce speed loss. #2, depending on the walls, intentionally crashing into them can help on turning without losing speed.
EDIT: Looks like I'm the only one to have the speedometer showing for this tutorial. Every other tutorial on how to unlock T.T. has the course map showing.

Advanced car tips:
Tap the A button repeatedly to go faster than normal. To reduce the risk of tiring out your right hand, tap it slowly.
Advanced hovercraft tips:
Hold the R button, then move in a zigzag way to go faster than normal. Zigzagging is much harder if you're using either Pipsy, Tiptup, or Diddy Kong. It is occasionally possible to go even faster by tapping the A button repeatedly yet slowly while either zigzagging, turning normally with the R button, or going straight forward. But in general, it either doesn't really work or is almost never performed with the hovercraft, unless you're super good at it.
Advanced plane tips:

Hey I want to race against T.T. but he doesn't appear in the most tracks. I could beat him in Ancient Lake, Everfrost Peak, Walrus Cave, Whale Bay and Boulder Canyon because his spirit appears in them. In the other tracks when I choose T.T. on he doesn't appear even if I pick the right car (in Pirate Lagoon he doesn't appear too).
Do I do something wrong? I also beat all trophiy races including future land and unlocked Drumstick, I have 47 balloons at the moment.

I'm 13 and started a n64 game collection. Just unlocked tt like 30 minutes ago. I feel really proud but if were comparing, I have the internet and you guys didn't when you where kids so it's not really a fair fight
We had video game magazines...
Personally, I had a fun time trying to figure everything out without magazines and the internet. My brother and I used to play and share thoughts about stats and tips/tricks. It was so fun back then.

And remember those achievements, the music and the fun you experience with videogames. One day you might remember zipping through Star City and bumping into windmills one day after a stressful conference meeting. :)
HyperL0c K I’m 27 and I did have internet back then. I was a kid when this game came out.
Planet Of The Humans it’s not the same. They didn’t make games easier , most of the time they just had tips and HINTS of what to do. Not an actual hold your hand walk through.
There was internet, just most people didn't have access to anything beyond a 56k modem.
Loved unlocking tt it was so fun and not at all stressful :)

I can't get T.T's ghost to appear in Everfrost Peak and I'm using the car. Do I have to use the plane?
You have to choose the vehicle originally used for that track. Same goes for every other track.

A re-recording emulator called Mupen64...without the use of save states, of course.

I got a question when hitting the green zipper do you let go the accelerator all the way or do you press it again when it’s fully done till you see rainbow cause I hit the green smoke every time but no extra please help
It is tricky. All I can say is, use the speedometer to determine when to accelerate again at certain sections.
So i need to speak with TT before every course (to activate tt mode) and then race 2x? First doing my time and then against tt?
You can do Time Trial either by approaching T.T. in the lobby or in the main menu screen.

@@sauce4422 Because I was not going for the fastest time. Plus, it was rather unnecessary.
In my copy of the game, there's no frog that looks like a rooster to unlock Drumstick. All you have to do is earn all 4 pieces of the amulet.
If there is no frog, then Drumstick is likely unlocked already.
FUN FACT: The frog seen in the video is actually Drumstick. After losing the race, he was turned into a frog by Wizpig's black magic.
@@William5000000 yeah, but when I first played the game 20 years ago, there was never a rooster-frog, not even before I unlocked Drumstick.
win all 4 trophy races, then check out if you can find the frog with the rooster-look.

late response but maybe go up to tt in the level lobby after making a ghost the 1st time and save the ghost. Then go into the level and tt should be there

Vence a Wizpig y consigue los 4 trofeos de oro. Una vez hecho, te vas al cartel que está en la playa, donde aparecen los trofeos de oro a medida que los vas obteniendo. Puedes tocar el claxon frente al anuncio o simplemente chocar con fuerza contra el mismo, eso va a iniciar una escena donde se desbloquea el mundo que buscas.

Do you have to beat him on adventuere one? In tracks i beat him on adventure 2 and i didnt unlock him :(

I wonder why they even give you the option or if its a bug? The TT symbol appears on every track. thats why i am thinking i need to delete the tracks file and do it again.
@@omfgbobsaget You should be able to go back and pick the first Adventure. But if T.T. doesn't say 'Now try to beat my time!' or 'Well done! Now try another track!', then you'll likely have to do them all over again.
