Man T.T is really good sport. He keeps encouraging to try and even congratulates you for beating him. We need more people like our living clock friend!
T.T. is nowhere close to being one of the hardest characters to unlock in history. He was also badly nerfed in the DS version. The stats on screen are a complete lie. Forcing the player do even more just to unlock him in that version is nothing but completely pointless busywork.
If you have problems beating T.T, here are some tips. First of all, be sure to never slip off. It HAS to go smooth. If not, you lose your chance of winning forever and have to try again. Secondly, before you hit (or use) the booster, don't use acceleration. And don't hold A until you see smoke, you will get an overpowered boost. Thirdly, if you mash A instead of holding, you will go a bit faster. It might sound like not much, but trust me. Its an god's gift sometimes.
And here we have a person who’s a speed runner or someone who watched speed running videos. Nonetheless. I know all that way before speed running was a thing on this game hahah. It’s good people are finding it out themselves though.
ohh is that why id always this short pause before it used the boost cause i was still pressing accellerate. damn... wish i was still able to play now lol
T.T. gave us a perfect lesson as kids on how to be a good friend. Always be happy when our friends do well, even if they're beating a personal best we're proud of.
I remember spending a solid week or two when I had time running through these Time Trials. Time Trials are something I really don't enjoy...BUT, it was awesome unlocking T.T.!

what i learned is the speed is based on characters, i could not beat the walrus with diddy at all no matter what i did diddys speed could not keep up and i was doing decent with diddy but when i switched to banjo i beat him first try. i think the turtle is the over powered one that most speed runners use since his speed and turning is maxed out

Man, when I was a kid, I spent about a week trying to beat every T.T. time trial. I didn't know if it did anything by beating all of them, I used Pipsy (the slowest, but perfect handling), and didn't know that bananas increased your speed (up to 10). Worst week of my life since I'm not a fan of time trials. I just wanted to 100% the game. Was so happy when I saw my hard work pay off
I did it back in 1997, in my memories it was more difficult than it really is. I just made it again and for nostalgia and it's not difficult at all, there are two or three tricky ones (specially crescent island) but everything else is just so easy, I usually finish way ahead it his ghost.
I’ve been playing from a new game for just a couple hours and I’ve done all but the space TT challenges. I find that it helps if you know what the time to beat is, and try to beat the time instead of the racer otherwise you psyche yourself out. TT has some bad second/third laps sometimes while having stellar first laps.
One thing I liked about Diddy Kong Racing that was different from most games is that other than Ancient Lake, the grassland/forest type levels usually at the beginning were near the end.
Another interesting thing is that the lava/volcano levels were near the beginning and the final levels were space-themed. Spaceport Alpha was my favorite track and song.

You need to turn the stick one in a while to the other direction you are currently drifting. If you only push the stick into one direction, you will spin out. You can also brake while drifting.
2021 and I unclocked tt for the second time . The only trick that helped me unlock him was pressing the A button many times when the race starts . If it wasn’t for that trick , I don’t know how long it would take me to unlock him !

I was pretty young when this game came out but I was able to get pretty far, the thing is actually beating and unlocking everything takes too much time, I eventually got bored and stopped playing shortly after beating wizpig.
Future Fun Land. The final area of the game. You need all 4 trophies, then beat Wizpig, then go to the sign with the trophies across from the lighthouse. Have fun.
If I recall correctly, one has to wiggle the stick left and right from time to time to prevent the car from spinning around. You may be able to spot the wheels turning constantly while drifting.
I play pipsy because I cannot drift right at all and the other characters just don't turn well enough for me. I thought I would never unlock TT and always have to rely on my brother to do it because while I can beat him easily in car, I do not do well in hovercraft and plane. I don't know why or what I am doing wrong. I am not crashing or missing turbos but I am just so slow. But I finally managed to unlock TT. I had to use Drumstick for the hovercraft levels (where he is second fastest to TT) and the plane levels (where he is the fastest character). Eventhough resorting to switching character in between levels, especially to Drumstick was the only way I could beat TT, I can finally unlock him without having to rely on my brother to do it and that feels good.
The Freaking DS Remake Hovercraft Time Trails is IMPOSSIBLE! I tried Diddy, Pipsy, Timber, Crunch, Tiny, Drumstick, And even Taj or Wizpig, BUT THEY FAILED! It's gonna be a freaking pain, Original or not
I remember unlocking tt and when I did I thought. Yes finally I have the ultimate character in the game but when I played him I was disappointed he was fast but the handling was terrible pipsi in my opinion was a much better character all round
+Davey 97 That's strange. I did this in the mode, where one can select any track that has already been unlocked. You got to do the race with the default vehicle for sure and you can also unlock him in Time Trial during Adventure Mode. (Talk to T.T. for this.) Maybe you can only unlock him after beating the Adventure mode at least once? Or you need to be fast enough or something and race against your own ghost one or two times before T.T. shows up.

Dude I never talked to tt in my first complete run after 20 years of trying. After looking up how to do it I thought I had to play the non adventure mode time trial shit and got decent records idk if the copy I bought had real attempts from others but the initials seemed like it was preprogrammed shit. Anyway I beat all the records and he’s not there. Then I happen to try to talk to him and see if that unlocked him and he said turn time trial on? So I did and tried racing him and holy shit have to relearn the game. The goal was to unlock adventure two something I never did due to never actually owning the game as a kid. I tried playing adv two right after and sucked. Now a year later am destroying it because I only vaguely remember the tracks lol prolly better off doing the tt trials on this account lmao I know the tracks even better mirrored. Also been playing the pod racer star wars game and that teaches some nice reflexes. Love this game a bit more tho but going from that to this deff giving me an edge I don’t think I had to restart a race but maybe 3x? On silver coins. Idk
after playing oxides time trials on CTR NF oxide makes T.T look like a joke, i wish nintendo would port this game somewhere so i could play it again. i heard they wiped all the emulator OS so it cant be played unless you buy the actual copy on n64.
It is easier to do this in single races. I am not 100% sure, but if I remember correctly, you can select Time Trial thanks to the T.T. in the middle of the selection areals in the Adventure. So you can probably do it in the Adventure mode too.

@@rogerklotz7737 You can't really prove nor disprove it unless you want to put in a lot of effort to do some schematics with how consistent Pipsy's top speed is with the maximum amount of speed she can get with 10 bananas. But the keyword to all of this is consistency. If she's consistently going at a speed without going higher than the speed she's supposed to be going, then he's not using the tap a trick. But it's too hard to find out without the speedometer being there.
Well, that is correct for the N64 Version. As for the DS version, all you really need to do is visit each domain and the levels will unlock in Single Race Mode. From there, you can choose which track you wanna race the ghost on and activate the ghost by just tapping the icon on the bottom screen or pressing up or down on the D-Pad
I don't get it when I first played this game when I was 11 or 12 I beat the whole game and unlock everything now I'm 25 and started playing it again and is fucking hard as hell I can't beat it no more wtf
No tapping of the A button. I stop accelerating right before a turbo platform, like letting your foot go of the gas pedal before using nitro. I don't accelerate while in turbo either, becuase that slows you down. Once the turbo is used up, I hit the gas again.
Beat all tracks, but the DS version requires beating them with all vehicles. DK Island tracks are excluded. You should use upgrades that maximize the speed. Don't bother with acceleration and handling.
Do a Time Trial race fast enough first, than select the same track and race again. If it was fast enough, T.T.'s ghost should appear. Beat his time. Do this on everly track and he is unlocked.
ryan malone Don’t hold the analog stick in one direction for too long. For instance, while drifting left, don’t hold right for too long because you’ll spin. You have to hold right for two seconds close to three, let go so the analog stick is in its neutral postion; then hold right for another second or so. To make sharp drifting of said direction. If you’re drifting left, hold left at the direction you’re driving and you won’t make you spin. But holding the opposite direction you’re driving will make you spin. Same as above. You have to just use the analog stick to control which way you’re driving.

How come most people can't drift very well in this game? Drifting helps so much, even as Pipsy. I recommend drifting. Speaking of recommending, I recommend switching from the course map to the speedometer. Very helpful on determining how long the green boost is supposed to last. Literally, every video tutorial I've seen on how to unlock T.T. just shows the course map. You have to win all the trophy races to access those levels I'm pretty sure.
You have to win the gold trophy in all 4 areas and then bump into the sign out by the lighthouse.

It is easier to do this in single races. I am not 100% sure, but if I remember correctly, you can select Time Trial thanks to the T.T. in the middle of the selection areals in the Adventure. So you can probably do it in the Adventure mode too.
Unlocking T.T may take a long time and I mean 5 years to unlock him.

@@rogerklotz7737 You can't really prove nor disprove it unless you want to put in a lot of effort to do some schematics with how consistent Pipsy's top speed is with the maximum amount of speed she can get with 10 bananas. But the keyword to all of this is consistency. If she's consistently going at a speed without going higher than the speed she's supposed to be going, then he's not using the tap a trick. But it's too hard to find out without the speedometer being there.

Do a time trial on a track fast enough first, then T.T.'s ghost should appear.
Well, that is correct for the N64 Version. As for the DS version, all you really need to do is visit each domain and the levels will unlock in Single Race Mode. From there, you can choose which track you wanna race the ghost on and activate the ghost by just tapping the icon on the bottom screen or pressing up or down on the D-Pad

No tapping of the A button. I stop accelerating right before a turbo platform, like letting your foot go of the gas pedal before using nitro. I don't accelerate while in turbo either, becuase that slows you down. Once the turbo is used up, I hit the gas again.
How do you do it in the DS?
Beat all tracks, but the DS version requires beating them with all vehicles. DK Island tracks are excluded. You should use upgrades that maximize the speed. Don't bother with acceleration and handling.

Do a Time Trial race fast enough first, than select the same track and race again. If it was fast enough, T.T.'s ghost should appear. Beat his time. Do this on everly track and he is unlocked.

how do you drift without hitting anything
ryan malone Don’t hold the analog stick in one direction for too long. For instance, while drifting left, don’t hold right for too long because you’ll spin. You have to hold right for two seconds close to three, let go so the analog stick is in its neutral postion; then hold right for another second or so. To make sharp drifting of said direction. If you’re drifting left, hold left at the direction you’re driving and you won’t make you spin. But holding the opposite direction you’re driving will make you spin.
Same as above. You have to just use the analog stick to control which way you’re driving.

How come most people can't drift very well in this game? Drifting helps so much, even as Pipsy. I recommend drifting.
Speaking of recommending, I recommend switching from the course map to the speedometer. Very helpful on determining how long the green boost is supposed to last. Literally, every video tutorial I've seen on how to unlock T.T. just shows the course map. It seems like I'm the only one who actually shows the speedometer for my tutorial on this type of thing.
