I have been knitting and crochet for the past 5-7 years or so and I was just at a yarn shop in studio city called la knitterie parisienne and I bought a shawl kit to make the Katia ombré shawl and I will include a picture of the shawl kit so you can see it and basically the shawl is a little confused in the wording and basically the shawl says to cast on 3 stitches and it dose not say weather to start with the light color or dark color in the shawl when you start with the 3 stitches when you cast on and also the pattern says to work in garter stitch which is just knit stitch and it says strip stitch increasing 1 stitch from the third row at the end of every right side row and I’m not sure what they are referring to so if someone can explain this to me so I can make the shawl I would appreciate it and also it says selection 5 and 6 use the darkest color so what dose that mean when it says selections 5 and 6 or 4 and 7 use the dark or lightest color I’m sure what color to use for what section and one more thing the shawl says to do for the increase you make 2 stitches form one stitch and dose that mean you do a knit front and back or do you do a different knitted increase and if someone has done this shawl I would like some advice on this shawl or I would like to know how your shawl turned out if you did do this particular shawl Thanks 🙏
When the colour changes on the ball, how can you manage to keep the new colour from making “dashes” on the right side of the work? I prefer them on the wrong side where they do not show.
You could intentionally change the color by cutting and working in the changed color on the row you’d like. It causes more tails but I would agree it would be a cleaner look.
@@GoodKnitKisses Thanks for your reply. Something I heard you say about garter ridges need 2 rows to be completed. That was the solution! I changed yarn on the wrong side row. When I ripped back and began the change the row before that, suddenly I got a full ridge on the right side - a smooth transition from one colour to the next!
I love the pattern but my stair steps are not growing. Where am I supposed to increase at. The video only showed but so much. Of the begging. How do I increase and decrease at the end?

When you count your 5 rows do you increase that as well? So when we go on to the third jag would we count 6 rows on WS? And when we get to the other side of the 65cm do we start decreasing? Haha I’m new here 😂
Elevated Performance Horses on your WS you’ll count the 5 RIDGES not rows that you can clearly see. Then bind off 6 stitches. This decreases it down 6 stitches of course. But on that same row you then knit to the last 2 stitches and then INCREASE 1 with a yarnover and knit to the end. When you flip it to the RS you knit 2 and then INCREASE 1 again with another yarnover again and work to the end. After several rows your scarf is slowly increasing 1 with every row. By the time you can count the 5 ridges on the WS you will have increase the length of your shawl and bind off again to create another sawtooth edge. The 65 inches are measured after making many of these sawtooth edges. It is measured on the opposite Long edge from the sawtooth edge, on the yarnover eyelet side. The only DECREASE is when the 6 cast off(bind off) stitches happen. When you get the 65 inches you simply cast off all the remaining stitches. See minute 12:16 in the video. This is where the second sawtooth part starts and some visual explanation may help. I hope this helps :)

You’re welcome, thanks for the encouragement! I prefer interchangeable circular needles in more of a general sense. The material of the needle I use mostly depends on what kind of yarn I’m using so allows the yarn to move naturally (not dragging or super fast). Sometimes needles are being used on other projects so I use others. My current favorites for MOST projects have been Knitters Pride Dreamz interchangeables but also their DPNs when I need. Second fav are the KP Carbonz version with the carbon needle and steel tip. For super bulky yarn I love using Addi Turbos. They tend to slide that yarn nicely and the blunt tip I like for bulkier yarns. Those are fixed circulars though that I have. I rarely use my bamboo needles unless it’s on DPNs for a small project with slippery yarn or a bulkier project that I prefer all the stitches to not drop into a cord. Lol I really answered throughly, huh? 😁
LivyRoseee you can. Your stitches will be larger and may have more of a gap if you use the same yarn or you could change it up as well. To make sure you could make a small swatch to see how the yarn behaves. Because this pattern starts the way it does, you really don’t need to do any math or make a gauge swatch to test for cast on, you can just start working it up. See if you like that yarn with that needle. If you do, keep going and increase. Stop when you get your desired size. Your stitches will be larger so you may bind off less stitches across than if you had used a smaller needle
You could use 16". Michael's website actually shows using 14" straights. The deepest point of the shawl is 16" though. You can squish it down if you like. I like a bit of wiggle room on mine so I can lay down my needles quickly if needed and not worry about dropping a stitch.
