A great companion/cover crop for your tomatoes is radish. They love the cool shade under the maters. Re-seed as you harvest.

Garden looks awesome! All that space! Mine is only 14 x 19. No walkways. Lol. I've found Neem oil deters the cabbage moths. I got 100% pure and mixed it myself. Keep up the great work. You are an inspiration!

Yep! I still just use my basic 1 sprinkler head that's propped up on a tall pole. Nothing fancy

Hey, we are close by in MN zone 3B to 4A depending on the year. This year is the mosquito condominium year, we live in nets from May to Nov. Our garlic is starting to produce scapes. Some years I have successfully grown Scotch Bonnet peppers and some years not. We have a large 50’ X 80 garden, several raised beds ands a few vertical. They all have a purpose. We’ve been battling slugs, bunnies, deer, bears and even watched skunks jump in the raise beds and dig. The UPS and Fed ex guys says our place is the worse they have seen for mosquitoes. But we have rain! Lol! Thank you!
Hello neighbor!!! So good to hear that Scotch Bonnets are a possibility! 🙏🏼 It’s been a cool and cloudy June so we’re not off to a good start, but here’s to hoping! Wow!! You’ve got all the critters for sure - have you tried electric poultry netting? I LOVE mine! No one breaks through 💫. The mosquitos are definitely at an all-time high! All my friends/family refuse to visit until it dries up 😂. Hang in there!
@@thehomesteadingrd I’m very interested in the poultry netting. We’ve had electric fencing. The deer take a running jump, so I’ve been making odd size inner fenced portions, lol! I made copper bracelets for the beans, seems to be working for slugs. My friends came over, got out of the car for 5seconds, then got back in and said they’d call us and left, lol! Thank you!

Have you ever heard of putting fish in large barrels of water so the mosquitoes land their eggs on the water and the fish eat them? I’m in Canada and that’s what people do to lower mosquito population. Might be worth a try :)
We are also in Mid/Northern Minnesota (zone 4a)! We are so far behind this year, everything is getting pelted wuth rain and smashed with wind this year.

Hey, someone closer to my zone in Northern WI. I am fighting with all the gardening this year. It's been a sloooow start. Last year, I was so much farther ahead. It has been nice not to have to water so much this year with all the rain, but the flooding and standing water is not helping with mosquitos. So much bug spay ans layers of cloths to try and ward them off.
Hello from Aitkin, MN! Yes, my garden is struggling with all the rain and cool weather.your tomatoes look great. Mine are not happy, too wet. I have alot of clay in my soil. My peppers are doing good.

Don't thin the cilantro. It grows better in close quarters, and doesn't bolt as fast.

Newbie here! Where can I find info about planting onions? Mainly when do they need to be planted? I threw some seeds into my garden beds in late May and they are still super tiny. Thanks!
Hi there! Onions need a LONG time to grow. They are the first seeds that I start in doors (late February for zone 3/4), so if you started them in late May then tiny is to be expected. Sorry! I hope they finish out in time. You might still be okay if you have a long growing window.

Do you have problems with potatoes coming back up again the next year even after you’ve harvested them. I do two years later and I thought I’d got them all!
Haha yup that happens sometimes to me, too! It’s hard to get 100% of them at harvest time. It’s kind of a fun surprise in the spring
I am also glad to watch someone else in Minnesota that is dealing with similar conditions. This year is a difficult weather year. My garden is struggling with all the rain and wind damage. Does anyone have something that actually works for mosquitoes! I am done being carried away! Great garden tour!

I grew kohlrabi for the first time. As soon as I brought it in the house to ac it got soft. How do you store it?
They do tend to go limp pretty fast (even in the crisper drawer), so I try to just pick them as we eat them. However, even if the leaves go limp, the edible bulb is usually still good for a while!
