I just picked up an m240 after about a year of contemplating between it and a 4 series. that year really showed me how common the 4 series was on the road. I decided on a 2-series because, as you mentioned, they are cooler imo BECAUSE they're less common

5:17 "This engine is 1) Strong and 2) Takes to mods like a cat to mice." Hilarious & articulate review of a super-fun, well-sorted, daily-driver. Thanks, Mr. Klapman!
I have an M2 and love it, having said that the M235i is a fantastic value right now so it is a great car to go with. I highly recommend either. I have driven my M2 33,000 miles in 20 months and can't get enough.
It’s not necessarily somebody couldn’t afford a 4 series or m4, many think the 2 series drives better than a 4 series and definitely the m2 drives way nicer than the m4 in my opinion. But hey I guess some guys just care about HP
The 2015 M4 starts at $64k, or about $20k more than the M235i, and $10k more than an M2. I agree that the M2 drives better than the M4, and I prefer the size as well. - ZK
Well idk about that, the 2 series is technically a Frankenstein car (like the Lexus IS models). Bits and pieces from different cars in the bmw lineup are what make up the 2 series and its chassis. It wasn't designed from the ground up with racing in mind like the F8X 3/4 series. It was developed literally as a cheaper alternative coupe if you didn't want to spend the money to get into the 4, like zack was saying. In fact. Most of the reasons people like the 2 at all is because of how light it is, not because of how well balanced the car is as a whole. Imo I think the new m2 comp's chassis can't handle its own power (after driving back to back with an m4 comp earlier this year). Sure the m4 is heavier but you can mitigate the the body roll, under steer, and even power delivery much better than you can in the m2, and that goes miles further than if "it's got a good power to widget ratio bro." Also, 2 series will never look as good as a 4 side by side but that's just my opinion
Yeah I love it too! But is that a stock color? Never seen a 2-series with that color before. I live in Sweden and we might not get all color options that US market gets.
Idk why people hate on Zack. He is arguably funnier then Matt and isn’t like he has never reviewed a car before on this channel. His review of an R8 a while back was one of the better videos ever posted to this channel. Sure, he isn’t the face w have come to expect, but he is funny and every bit as qualified as Matt.

Zack I prefer the roof mount. You can better see what is the suspention doing compared to the road surface. Keep it if you can. I dont know why matt switched.
DannyLlerenaTV the crazy, fun and interesting thing is that the 228i m sport with track package is twice as fun to drive than a completely stock M235i, straight line speed aside. We had both, my wife leased a 228 and I own a f30 335i and her car hands down was so much more fun day in day out. 2 series is the old 3 series dynamically. 3/4 series big n bloated.
People give so much crap on n55. I think it is a rock solid engine. Even the turbo is good. Yes n54 is a ton more tunable but to me 350 to 500 hp is the street sweet spot. Looking into 2011 to 2013 - 335i but I like the m235i as well . 335is perhaps with n54 but heard they drink gas. Decisions decisions. Glad you and Matt decided keep going with viewers cars. Keep up great work man. Enjoying the show in Miami.
love when people *explain* why bmws does what they do. No its not for entry level BMW customers. Its for the old BMW customers who hate the fact that the 3 is the size of the old 5. And btw, a 235/240 starts at 45, not 30s. I've owned both. Just got my 240, off the boat from Germany, because apparently production is over early for 2019 models.
Finally someone tackling the rubber vs ss line, engineering explained did that a long time ago, and there’s no real benefit over stock NEW lines, and they are dangerous as well, I have seen goodridge lines detach! i think there’s a reason of why not even a Porsche GT3 Cup car uses them
Funny thing about other manufacturers using the zf gearboxes is that BMW don't allow them to use the peak tune/setup that they use so in a way they are forced to use a less efficient one. BMW reserve the best gearbox tune/setup for themselves. I only found this out recently from an Ex jaguar technician who moved over to work for BMW. Interested me.
Are you guys also going to review the M2 and compare it to this, and also the M2 Competition model also. Id be curious how they all compare due to the M235i and M2 have the rough platform shared with N55 engine, while the M2 Competition has the detuned twin turbo engine S55 from the M3/M4
When these guys are talking power figures I assume they are talking about WHP because 380bhp at the flywheel is achievable from just a decent tuning box.
Pretty sure the m135i ewg and m235i have the exact same engine, chassis, gearbox etc but with a few mods on the suspension and chassis the m235i becomes a more better handling vehicle
All the talk about steering feel and I still don't know what exactly it is when I drive. I switch between hydraulic and electric steering all the time, both bmws. I don't drive the car with hps and go, "damn, now I can feel the road in my hands"
When you turn the wheel, if you hit a small bump in the road, the wheel might push back (rotate) against your hand, against the direction which you're steering. Or when cornering, if the front wheels lose grip, you can feel the loss of traction through the steering wheel. It will get a little lighter, as the resistance of the road is lessened. There's also the minute vibrations of the road that transmit through the wheel. All those things add up to "Feel". The steering wheel is one of the messengers of the chassis, and what it's doing. It can tell you how much force is being applied laterally to the tire, how much slip there might be, or how much weight it on it (braking versus accelerating). _ ZK
Tom T. I'm curious, what BMWs are you driving? Is the hydraulic one a 5 or a 7 series? My experience is that the difference between e90 and e46 3 Series is massive, especially at lower speeds. I'm talking about e90s non-335i or M3, as those have hydraulic racks.
Really do like Zack as a Co-host, knows his stuff he can drive and seems far more interested in the cars then a some of Matt's later videos he was really getting burnt out. Personally I'd say the 2-series really is the only buy from BMW if you want a fun daily, although the cost of the aftermarket is just insane and the cost of maintenance after the first 3-4 years is just dumb. If we are talking sport/luxury coupes in the 45-55K range though I'd snag a Q60 RS400, takes better to mods, nicer interior and has far better looks. Only real negative is shes a bit porky and the transmission is a dog :(
Zach, I suspect a big part of the difference in steering feel could be the tires, I switched to the Pilot Sport 4s on my M2 and was pretty surprised at the difference in turn in and steering feel. This guy said he was running a different tire so that may be a significant factor, KW probably helps also but tires sure make a difference.
The 2 series doesn't come with individual paint, such as this one that looks like the Grigio Telesto, and it would cost too much, and be quite unfeasible to custom paint the entire car, I think it's a really good wrap. I have had the M240 for 2 years and it is the best BMW I have ever driven - this machine is alive and it makes you feel alive when your driving it as it was meant to be driven. I don't agree with what this guy is saying about people getting an M2 because they can't afford an M4. That's complete surface level superficial non sense - many could easily afford the M4 but choose not too. The M2 looks better and drives better. The reason I didn't want to get the M4 or the M2 was because with a 5 year old child in Canada I needed a more conformable ride, specifically xdrive for winter, without really sacrificing on speed and performance. I also wanted a car that I could tune, give a unique look to, and take to the track. I could not have hoped for a better car, my experience with the M240 has been so much old school fun - I've come up with hundreds of new excuses to go for a drive and explored every long way to, and back from work. It's very fast, sounds great, turns a lot of heads, and I get at least 3 cars a day that want to race, even in traffic. It seems to bring out the limitless spirit in other drivers. I see way too many M drivers that don't touch their cars after they buy it, often they know very little about the marvel they are driving, much less it's unique personality, happy only with having that M badge in the back - worst of all, they don't even know how to drive properly, or push the car to a fraction of it's potential, even whilst driving completely alone in a highway at 4am. These are probably the only sort of people that would look at a 2 Series or an M2 and think the drivers just couldn't afford a higher number. These people's hollow superficial opinions don't matter.
I looked at a M4 & also drove the M2C. Ended-up buying the M2, as it drives better IMO & is more tossable. My other vehicle is a Jeep Wrangler, so I really wanted something nimble to just run around town.
I am considering this Model, but am also looking at a near-mint, 2009 335xi Sedan, M-Sport w/6speed. Is it true that this car has the same suspension as the M2, or is that just a dumb rumor on You Tube lol Thanks to all that reply! -Dave
So I’m looking to buy my first bmw I don’t know much about cars but I was fascinated by the m3 but I really like this car i guess my question is is this like a msport or is it basically a 2 series
It’s an m performance 2 series. Which means it’s not hand built by bmw’s m GmbH division however it has m performance tuned components. Similar to Audi’s “S” models and Mercedes amg performance models. Simply put the m235i with full bolt ons and a flash tune you’ll be walking m2’s for breakfast. It’s one helluva car.
Really great car and vid. I have a penchant to get one of these in the future possibly but I had the 335i (which had awesome power) but they don't come with an LSD! Which ticks me off some what. I have heard that you can order them special order to have an LSD or have one put in at the dealership (which I guess could be done with a ton of cash with any BMW really). But I could be wrong about that. Did this one have LSD? I might have missed them saying if it is open diff or not.
I implore anyone looking at a 235 to drive an n55 135. 135 is superior in every single way. The DCT is so much more crisp than the 8 speed auto. The handling is night and day. Owned both. Had a 235 first and got rid of it and bought a 135. Night and day difference
I love the mods and car. But I've yet to understand why no one that I've seen on the internet that drives these cars (exception of Chris Harris) puts in an LSD. It would be the first thing I'd imagine the car would need to come up to the next level. If you can't get all the power down you can't use it all. Plus the drift factor LOL.
@@paulygee9664 Forged internal N55 vs B58 I believe. N55 is easier to service and at the end of its life, vs a newer more unknowns and more advanced B58. Cant really go wrong either way.
I think you're wrong about people who get a 2 series who can't afford a 4 series. Not everyone wants a big ass car.
Colyers those aren’t big cars. Mustangs and Camaros are much bigger.
4 series is not not big. The 7series is big.
This! I like cars under 180” the smaller the better
2series is cooler then the 4 series if you ask me. Thinking about geting a 2015 used 235ix or a 550D (400hp diesel sleeper ftw)
I just picked up an m240 after about a year of contemplating between it and a 4 series. that year really showed me how common the 4 series was on the road. I decided on a 2-series because, as you mentioned, they are cooler imo BECAUSE they're less common

Perfect spec, but still needs nicer looking wheels imo. Wider at the back.
I have since gotten some, completely agree!

I implore anyone looking at a 235 to drive an n55 135. 135 is superior in every single way. The DCT is so much more crisp than the 8 speed auto. The handling is night and day. Owned both. Had a 235 first and got rid of it and bought a 135. Night and day difference
It most certainly sound very good....not so loud that your mom would hate it,ya know what I mean?
Hi, which air intake is this?
M240i is 340hp stock so 380hp seems low for the amount of changes to this car.
F22 is BMWs best kept secret. I wouldnt trade my M240xi for an M2 as my DD.
Jon Jakubco whats the difference between an M240 and M235?
@@paulygee9664 Forged internal N55 vs B58 I believe. N55 is easier to service and at the end of its life, vs a newer more unknowns and more advanced B58.
Cant really go wrong either way.
Wait what lol roof mount is actually better..
