    Oh my God thank you so much. I had to separate my goat from my chickens because he eats all their food. And I have one of those containers and didn't even think about it I'm sweating to death out in the yard trying to build a damn goat pen. You are just too adorable thank you again

      It's working out so great! With smaller goats we could probably lay it on its side so it was wider than tall.
      Thank you! They have made our life very entertaining.

    Around this area, there were a couple of goat herder types which would take thier goats on-site to clear brush. These folks were covered in multiple news stories and among the human interest story extentions, at least 2 of them spent time just sitting in the paddocks thier goats lived in routinely.

    Goat pellets can be placed directly into the garden....you might even want to get one of those kid style, little metal leaf rakes to rake up pellets during the year for placement into your newly created garden space with minimally ammended dirt.

      I didn't know that! We do that with rabbit droppings. It's fantastic in the garden.

    In our area, there are places which sell IBC totes and, you can get what are called "food grade" IBC totes. We got a number ofmfood grade IBC totes last yesr for $125/ each. Which, compared to what others are spending is a lot but in this area, the next cheapest fir the same was $250 with two other places selling them at $350 and $400. For us, "food grade" means that they've only held food items. This said, different foods leave different types of residues and we passed on some. - These are what we are using for holding capacity for our rain water collection system. If you roll then or move them 3nd over end, they are possible to move. For general purposes and for the 300lb + watering cart, we were able to buy a John Deere riding lawn mower in good condition with a bad deck at $250 (Back story's a guy took it in to be repaired and when all discovered what a new mowing deck would cost, he abandoned the mower at the repair guy's place.) The riding lawn mower moves the empty IBC totes with no problems too. We chose the IBC totes because empty, it was possible to move them and also change thier configuration. They dint need to be dug into the ground and, the metal framing helps when/ if branches land. I think a regular water tank requires a permit in this area. IBC totes with thier smaller volume each and no water container designation dont.
    And yes, our water is expensive enough to make it cost effective.

      We are hoping to get food grade ones in the future, but right now we use black pickle barrels for rain catchment. I love that no light gets into them so algae can't grow.

    Where did you find the IBC Tote for so little!? I've been looking and they are pricey buggers.

      We found it on Facebook marketplace. It seems to be the going price near us.

    You should always use vinegar to neutralize lye

      The acidity of vinegar will balance out the alkalinity of lye, but it will also cause a chemical reaction.

    Sorry to be the village idot...what is the baking soda for?

    • @LivingtheHightLife
      @LivingtheHightLife  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's not an idiot question! Goats are prone to an upset stomach which can cause bloat and kill them. The baking soda allows them to self medicate. If they start getting a little too acidic in their stomach, they just eat some. It's like tums for goats.
      They go through about 1/4 a cup per week with 2 goats.

    I have to chuckle over your straight line discussion. - I literally don't see straight lines. I can get to a straight line and even on a true vertical and horizontal plane, or line. I have always, since I was a kid used what's called triangulation which is basically on the fly comparison to other straight lines and triangles. On the other hand, im pretty quick to be able to note when something is hot straight or ewui-distsnt to another strsight.

      I have always been awful at straight lines. Even if I use a ruler, it ends up crooked. 🤣🤦‍♀️

    Does pee accumulate on the bottom of the tote?

    • @LivingtheHightLife
      @LivingtheHightLife  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It has a drain port that we keep open to allow pee to run out. It's been awesome!
