I agree with this to a point... We do add fans and frozen water bottles at 95 plus degrees, so they don't die. We hit 113 degrees in our last heat wave! We just created our first Mini colony with a concrete floor and tunnels to underground coolers. We tried donated marble tiles, but they really don't stay cool when it gets super hot. Thank you for the great book... We forage weeds for our buns 2x per day:)

wow! thanks for this vidoe! you see the 1st week the internet says keep them at like 95-80F. but this vidoe is very helpful!, im a begginer, and used my bathroom as my brooder for 12 birds lost 1 local tractor supply supposed to be all girls have two mamoth roosters now, ( i kept the 2 surprises)! named "arnie for arnold swatzenanger, and bruce after the boss! heheheh, and i used the lamp for first 2 weeks., but yr way is way better with out elec., it also proves the baby chicks don't have to be at 90-80 and drop 5 degrees every week, ect.and yeah i was thinking "fridged north", ( im by canada)!, that would be too cold to do this but inside they would be out of wind and cold!. but yeah this would work. and good to know they feather out faster, i think this would make for a "tuffy/ hardy bird", more adpatable bird! thank you Megan! how did the rabbits work out? very helpful thank you very much for your time! much appericated! also another question if you had a wood stove, and you warmed up bricks or pavers, how long would they stay warm, could you also do it that way? so set alarms and change water every 4 hrs. nice, ok thanks! good to know bc im preparing for power outages, and when my roosters mate with the girls, if they need help to keep babies warm at some point or we get more chciks, this is really great knowledge!

What do you do to prevent flooding down into their burrows if you have heavy rain?

You forgot to add a warning that if the doe decides to hop around and pee while rubber-banded, she turns into a projectile pee sprinkler 😂 At least I know now for next time. Thanks for making this video!

My rabbit died of cancer, in her final days we took her to the vet 3 times. She wasn't just a pet, she was a best friend too. I used to snuggle up to her in my bed! She was so cute har fur was soft and smelt sweat and nutty!

Kale is so easy and prolific as well. Plant early and one row will give you soooo much all summer. I have one 4x8 raised bed and as long as I stay out of it long enough and let it grow big enough before I start to harvest, everyone gets a huge leaf and stalk 4-5 days a week 4 months out of the year. (I have 12 breeders who are all 10+ lbs who eat very very well year round)

Hi Megan, I read your comment about feeding your rabbits additional food like oats. Is that oats like we use to make porridge or do you feed them oat whole grains…like the kernels l see in oaten hay? Where do you buy it please? I am in Australia

Thank you for this! I am in central tx NW of Austin and have 3 pet rabbits that live outside. I’ve been wanting to make them a man-made burrow, which is how I ended up finding your page and subscribing. 2 of them are adopted pets and one is the baby of one them when a “wild” domestic rabbit that lives in our neighborhood got in lol. One is a California meat rabbit and the other one is a lop and they both do ok staying cool but I have noticed the lop loses a lot of fur off her ears in the summer to adapt. She was an indoor bunny but only 5 months old when I adopted her. I have tried the tiles for keeping cool and wondered why they didn’t work, but they are definitely too thin! I also freeze water bottles for them and hard ice packs only (they eat the soft ones). Mostly I just make sure they have lots of water available and shade and they dig down in the dirt and lay in it to stay cool :) I have a goal to be self-sufficient one day but I’m still struggling with the idea of eating an animal I raised 😬 I fully support the idea and I know it’s miles better than what animals get put through in factories, I just don’t know if I can do it lol..

Won't chicken wire rot fast in the ground? That is lots work to put such a cheap product in the ground isn't it? I would expect you want minium 16 gage.

I just got a bunny from someone who needed to rehome their bunny on the 16th of Aug. I don't know if she has gained weight, because I haven't had her long enough. She is an inside free roam litter trained bunny. So excited to have her. She even sleeps with me. About 5 days ago, she was nesting and even dug a hole in my mattress topper. I thought I felt something in her tummy but now I don't feel anything. As far as I know, this would be her first pregnancy if she is pregnant. She is a little more aggressive than she was at first. She does lay around a lot. When I first got her, I didn't feel her nipples but I do now. I had a bunny before but she was so tiny it was easy to know she was pregnant. This bunny is about the size of your black bunny 🐰. 15:01

I think me breeding for heat resistance would be a mistake. Way up north here in Canada we still get hot and humid were I am 100f plus humidity feeling well over 110 (40c feel over 45c) but it does not last as long only a couple months. Unfortunately we get very cold where I am as well, -40 happens most years and windchills feel -50's this happens for 2-3 months as well. Winter is longer then summer so I picked Silver Fox ( not known to be great in heat but very cold hardy) and when the temperature swings to hot(whenever there is a heat advisory) I do give frozen bottles for the hottest part of the day and feed mostly at night not during the day. When old man winter rears his ugly head I give oats and BOSS at night feeding and unlimited hay and pellet so they can keep digestive full and making heat. How do you feel about feeding whole oats and BOSS at times? I do feed mostly forage in summer but keep pellet in diet incase I need help feeding wile away or emergency.

I have 1 buck and 3 does. They live together and are so peaceful. I'm new. I know I may need to separate him but was hoping not. Is your buck in the colony all of the time?

Here is some advice for those watching. The pipe needs to touch the other pipe inside the coupler. This takes the pounding off the threads and onto the pipe where it belongs. Use a backup wrench when adding pipe. If you use the pipe in the ground as your backup you stand the chance of snapping the pipe at the threads. There is actually a specific pipe for well driving. It’s probably hard to find. Use a jackhammer to drive it down. The deeper the better because the ground filters out containments. You can go as deep as you want, ignore people who say the limit is 25’ of pipe. How deep is the water in your pipe, that has to be less than 25’. They drive them here 50-100’ depending on the use. Drinking they go to 100’. If you have access to water use a 3/4”pvc and jet along side it. It will go down much easier, much easier

Easiest way to pull it is using the pipe wrench and a car jack. You can also jet beside it assuming you have water using a 3/4” pvc pipe. Watching you is a bit scary. You guys are really not meant for this. SinKing a sand point really isn’t that hard. You guys are making this harder than it should be.

Because it’s so shallow it really isn’t very safe to drink. Mine is 27’ deep but I only use it for irrigation. Next time go for 50’, use a jackhammer to slam it down or use 3/4 pvc with water along side of it and it will drive way easier.
