    Man that feeling when your sitting there and something bad is going to happen and there is not a dam thing you can do about it. Well built machine.

    I dont even know how that tiger cat can still move, seeing as its being weighted down by derricks big steel balls.
    and to continue working after something like that without at least taking a breather and a quick underwear change makes those balls heavier.

    Having been in the timber industry going on 23 years now,I don't believe there is a tougher environment for a machine to work in day in and day out. To design and fabricate a piece of equipment to withstand, just as you see here,is truly amazing.

    I assemble tigercats now (used to work on aviation, its temporarily dead) and these machines are just hardened thick steel blocks, they're monsters, everything weighs a shit ton.

    Wow that just goes to show how something can in a blink of a eye right there. That also shows how good the machines are built for this situation.Thank goodness nobody was hurt or even worse this goes to show some of the dangers of logging

    Glad everyone's okay and you're right about the strength/safety engineered into these machines. What's amazing is thinking about the force needed to snap that tree. I'd have thought it would just roll off the other side, wow. Happy Mother's Day to everyone.

  • @brentmedders

    Glad he's ok, good machine! As a mechanic all my life (cars, trucks + equipment) I've cursed engineers plenty from time to time after spending 3hrs removing parts for access to change a $14 part that wears out regularly and having the customer take it out on me. But they do get it right sometimes. LOL

  • @ThatRoadrunner
    @ThatRoadrunner 6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    I'm glad everyone's okay. And you're right Tim, these machines can withstand a great deal of punishment. If you have the time, please PLEASE contact Tigercat about this. They've got a reputation for listening closely to their customers, and it's important they know how easy it is for such a critical switch to be accidentally bumped. Had Derrick been cutting those huge trees you see in Tigercat's demo videos sometimes, he might not have been so lucky. As such, if you have the time, and contact information, I think it's important that they know about the hazards of that switch's location, so they can revise their design for future machines. Maybe show them the video? Once again, awesome footage. Thank you for sharing this with us. You guys be safe!

    And that folks is WHY those machines all say "Keep clear 3-500'". Ive got a couple stories of stuff like that happening. Like the time i "found" a metal T-post with the mulcher drum and it came back at me like a missile on a mission. Thank god for that 1" bullet proof lexan glass or i would have been a goner. Stay safe out there boys!

    You wouldn’t believe how incredibly strong and tough bunchers are build. I was cutting over size poplar in Alberta with a 903k John Deere buncher. The poplar we were cutting was like 100’ tall and some of them were rotten so we would get huge chunks hitting the cab all the time and body. Of course I was on night shift so you can’t see if comming. This one time I had a tree probably 36-48 in but 100’ tall and it broke off at like 40’ up the tree and that too 60’ came straight down onto the cab we’ll let me tell ya that 40 ton buncher bounced off the ground. That’s a lot of weight to come straight down from 40’ in the air and not one little dent in the cab. I would feel safe in a war zone in a buncher they are very well built safe machines

    what is the anti-stall switch for? why would you want the machine to stall?

    • @remb9614
      @remb9614 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      KYLE THOMPSON the machine will bog down and stall if it’s under a big load (like a stick shift car). When that happens you lose hydraulic control and drive. Anti stall will keep the engine running even if it is bogged down by slipping a clutch or by valving in the hydraulic system. As for why you would want it to stall, I have no idea.

    Had around a 20-24" at the stump poplar come down on the back right corner of a 748GIII. Hardly even scratched the paint. I had one about 6" snag in my front right chain and kiss the front window and I had to drive it out and it didn't break the window. Scratched pretty good but stayed in one piece. Had around a 10-12" catch in a rear chain an come flying around and smashed into the back window. Again didn't even break it. Those machines are built strong for a reason. The place I worked a guy rolled one several times. They flipped it back on all fours let it set and made sure fluids were all good and fired it up and kept on going. Well except the operator he wasn't running it any more lol he went to processing.

    Maybe get the stall switch sorted if two people nearly died within a few years? Obviously plant error, not user, if both of you did it. This is why reporting health and safety events is so important, it at least attempts to stop someone else making the same mistake as yourself.

      swn02 all forestry equipment is designed with structures. Skidders is roll over protective structure ROPS. FOPS falling object protective structure. Bunchers, processors and loaders have FOPS plus TOPS or tip over protective structure. Seeing as most of the time tracked machines just tip not roll.
