  • Professional skin retouching doesn't have to be hard or time consuming. Check out how this incredible AI app bit.ly/Retouch4Me is speeding up portrait editing and improving the results. This is not a sponsored video, but the developers have kindly reached out with a discount for you guys via the link above! Nice.
    It works as a standalone app or as a plugin for Photoshop, Lightroom and Capture One.
    There are three main elements I focus on for the retouching.
    1) Using the heal tool to clean up skin blemishes (Tool: Heal)
    2) Evening tonal discrepancies in the skin with corrective dodge and burn (Tool: Dodge and Burn)
    3) 3D volumizing and bring more form to the portrait (Tool: Volumes)
    Each of these tasks can be handled by the AI neural net in the 3 app/plugins I feature in the video in just a few seconds. I'm super impressed and I hope these tools find their way into your workflow to help you too.

    Pretty pricey but well worth it. I've just shaved about 3 hours of the post production on a corporate headshot photoshoot. I set up an action the way you showed and let it do its thing. The result: 16 perfectly retouched portraits without any input from me. Thanks for bringing this to my attention!

      Yeah, if you shoot portraits regularly it's a real time saver! Glad you like it.

    Thanks for the video. Do you have a similar video content but in Luminar neo?

    • @AnthonyTurnham

      I have done portrait editing examples in Neo in the past - however I think I'm in need of an updated vid featuring some of the newer tools and workflow. Thanks for the idea. Watch this space.....

    Very impressive Anthony. Having looked at the various prices you'd need a fairly hefty bank balance to afford the various tools. Why not just use something like the much more afordable Portrait Pro Studio to achieve something similar if not exact. Thoughts?

    • @AnthonyTurnham

      Absolutely, there's always alternatives. But the quality really is second to none. I've used various retouching software and AI models to try and streamline my workflow and the results just don't compare. Portrait pro etc are better than nothing or spending ages doing it manually. Unless the editing is purely for the enjoyment - which being a bit of a geek- I sometimes do just for fun anyway! 😆

    Thx Anthony, sounds interesting. Will the stand alone version create a mask as well or a picture?

    • @AnthonyTurnham

      You work with the mask in the standalone app and then it saves the new picture. TBH most of the time I leave the mask exactly as it is and the result is excellent!

      Thank you for your fast reply. In which file format can you save the picture? I did not find it on their website, sorry…

    • @AnthonyTurnham

      Save, will resave in the current file format, or "save as" will let you choose.

    Thank you for sharing these 3 tools. Do these tools have there only masking? Or did you also use the retouch 4me skin mask or Photoshop masks in this edit?

    • @AnthonyTurnham

      The tools create their own mask as part of the AI processing. For most of the examples it was all just done with the Retouch4me software itself all automated and no additional masking in a 3rd party editor like photoshop.

      @@AnthonyTurnham thank you Anthony. It awesome. I will wait until they allow these plugins to be available in photolab 6/7

    Even with the discount, that's some pricey software. I'd have to do a lot of portrait retouching to make that worth it to me. That being said, the software itself appears to work really well, so if your workflow includes retouching a lot of portraits, this would definitely be worth it.

    • @AnthonyTurnham

      Yes totally. If portraits are your thing, particularly professionally then it's monet well spent. If you do the odd one here and there then the tried and true manual techniques would be the way to go.

    Can I enlarge eyes of only one person on the family photo? if everyones eyes are wide open, but one persons eyes are half closed, will I be able to use AI option to enlarge the eyes of only one person? is there any other way to do that on Luminar Neo if AI option is not available? Thank you.

    • @AnthonyTurnham

      Yes you can. Simply mask the enlargement over the person you want to effect and not the others.

    • @AnthonyTurnham

      Yes, they're ideal for a professional earning from portraits, but are pricey for enthusiasts.

    gosh this is great but too pricy for a hobbyist. Wondering about the value of volumes. it seemed the most subtle change of all. Is it worthwhile?

    • @AnthonyTurnham

      Hi mate. Yeah, it's a MUST for professionals a maybe for enthusiasts and, just spend the time doing it yourself for the hobbyist. I really like volumes because it's the polish on top. By running dodge and burn in a corrective sense to get rid of uneven skin tones the image usually needs a bit of a lift to bring back the 3dimensional form. Volumes is insanely good at doing that - especially considering it's all being done by AI. So I think heal and dodge and burn represent the best time-saving value but volumes is a great addition to the set. BUT if I were to choose just two it would be heal and dodge and burn.

    I don't have photoshop, so this is confusing me a bit trying to work out how luminar is operated on its own. 🙈

    • @AnthonyTurnham

      Hi. You'd just run the app on it's own. Open the photo, let retouch4me do its thing and then save the result. So it doesn't really matter which software you use as your editor, you can still use retouch4me Heal, Dodge and Burn and Volumes.
