The Supra is like having a girlfriend that is really good in bed...you just don't want to look at her or have the lights on. The vette...well from the front or back...turn on the lights and have a great time. The vette for the win.
Price in 8 years adds $55K in repairs and maintance to the BMW. That's my 2011 N55 BMW's actual number. It needs about $12K more as it sits broken with a coolant leak, a major buzzing boost leak, rear main seal oil leak, bad AC compressor, and 3 cracked M wheels with 3" to 4" cracks in each rim.
You've had bad luck but you really can't generalize such things. My 435i is now six years old and thus far I have spent exactly "zero" on repairs. Had to replace several tires due to road damage, a new battery and a couple of hundred a year for oil changes, but nothing has actually gone wrong with the car itself. Still looks and runs exactly like new. But I have a new C7 for fun.
@@johnsimion2893 If you've done no maintence and don't know how to change your own oil every 3K miles to keep the soot and sludge down, haven't done a VANOS solenoid cleaning x 2, water pump replacement, OFH gaskets x 2, new intake gaskets x 6, waste gate and BOV replace, turbo inlet tighten, oil catch can addition, manual valve cleaning, rear main seal replace, serpentine and pulley replace (yours is soaked in oil because the OFH gaskets were not done) new struts x 4, as a minimum, than you're in for a real treat at 80-100K miles. Just sell it. You're welcome.
German cars are a bit of nightmare. I had an Audi S8 most unreliable car ever owned and I've had a TVR which I was told would fall apart but never had an issue with. Is why am now looking a Toyota but then seen the Vette... decisions decisions
a year ago in Scottsdale at barrett Jackson there was a supra on display and I never once saw anyone there looking at it and at the same time there were a lot of people surrounding the vettes........
The Toyota Supra is a BMW and will not hold it's value. But, I feel the C7's value is going to be hurt by people dumping them for the C8. In the long run the value will be with the Corvette because they will last longer.
Vette looks good and better than the mid engine Stingray, at least could put a standard suitcase and dog in it. The low front sucks, too many speed bumps in Dubai.
It's interesting because I was inside of the Grand Sport and it didn't sound as good as the Supra, but after watching the video, the Vette does indeed sound better.
Love the Corvette but I feel the supra feels a little bit more special. Very rare on the street and grabs more attention. Also I feel the Corvette's interior dated.
Four years later, you are even more correct. Corvettes are FAR more common on the street. By comparison, the Supra was made in much lower numbers. And let's not forget that the GR Supra has been very reliable with a "better than average" reliability rating compared to just average to below average for C7s, according to Consumer Reports magazine.
C7 is definetly nice looking ride, however quality problems that people state on forums is holding me back. Wheel cracks, stutter issues, cylinder deactivation problems.
I've had 2 C7's now (Z06 and now a ZR1) and have had no wheel cracks. The other 2 issues are limited to the automatic transmission and both of mine have been manuals so I can't speak to those issues so much other than the cylinder deactivation is easily fixed with a "range" obd2 device that stops it from happening all together. I can personally tell you that the C7 is an amazing car and any of the small issues you may read are easily fixed. 👍👍

Also Supra: hood too high, high center of gravity, small vertical space between rearview mirror and top of center console, no removable top, only the front wheels have brembo brakes, slower 0-60mph than a C7 corvette that has been around since 2014. NO stickshift fun.
Actually, the 2021+ Supras do 0-60 mph (3.7 seconds) a bit sooner than does the C7. And a downpipe and tune brings the Supra power right at the 460 that the C7 has.
So two years after this video was made more info is available. We see 2020 Supras selling for nearly new prices, however so are 5-7 year old C7’s.......i can vouch for this as i just traded in my rare 2022 A91-CF Supra for a 2017 Grand Sport Convertible and had to add $2000 on the trade for the “old” vette. The Supra sounds as good, and the ZF8 transmission is light years ahead of the C7’s, both everything else the vette is better. Ride and comfort the vette hands down, interior layout and design, vette hands down again. The dash display is so basic and bland on the supra, the designable dash of the vette is what you would expect on a premium performance car. The view from the drivers seat is also much more eye appealing with those humped fenders and raised cowl of the vette. I will admit, if straight line performance is your thing, the supra may have the edge with the upgraded 2021+ models, especially if its tuned like mine was. The rear end was really happy behind that supra, my GS is much more manageable and planted with 60mm of extra tire width. To put the vette over the top, its available with a drop top! Since this video was made the C8 is now out, and the Supra wont win any categories vs the same year vette now. Supras a great car and a total neck breaker, got even more attention than my C7, by all the youngsters on the road. The vette is more class, the supra is more sass. Happy to be in a vette finally.
Great video guys I’m actually still debating between the grand sport and the Supra. One thing you forgot to mention is if you not an experience driver and will never track the car . What would be a better option. Also reliability? Thanks
I think the Grand Sport is more trackable and more reliable.The Supra will be good for a bit but when something breaks it's going to be BMW cost to repair.

This was an interesting comparison review Justin. I never would have thought of it, probably because it's a Vette all day long for me, but I enjoyed it. I have to agree with Mike in that at $40k the Supra would be worth consideration, maybe. But it's pretty much a deal breaker at the current price. Save the Wave.🙋♂️

For me I don't really even need a sound system. That's what my exhaust is for. But honestly I agree that the Vette does not kill it with the Bose. Definitely room for improvement. No center console on the Supra doesn't work for me either.

Honestly with your points it's a closer comparison than I thought. When I first clicked on the video I won't show you how big of an eye roll I gave but by the end I was right on board. Even at $85,000 to $60,000 I'd say it's a toss up. Just my opinion but I'm a vette lover
Nah, you guys both did a great job. Bias always exists, but it was very fair all things considered. The reality is the Grand Sport is just plain superior to the Supra in most categories. Doesn't make the Supra a bad car at all, it's just a case of a high level rookie Sports Car vs a low level veteran Supercar that was a much better bang for the buck in offerings and superior in performance. The results were as expected. My take on it. Hope you guys do another review like this soon.
The interior is why I’m leaning towards the Supra vs a C7, although I have a couple more months to choose. The C7 interior feels very dated to me. It’s not as behind as previous gen corvettes, but it’s still pretty bad in that regard.
Great video brother! And Merry Christmas! I have a 15 Stingray with the z51 and mag ride. A Grand Sport would have been a fair amount more so it's hard for me to be sad I did not get one. But I am curious exactly how much better it is then a regular Stingray?
Thank you. The Grand Sport is a nice middle between the Stingray and the Z06. It has the bigger brakes, wider fenders, and wider tires. Along with some suspension tweaks that's pretty much it. Depending on the difference in price it may or may not be worth it to you.

The overall design is there but they should have made some real ventilation components in the supra. Thats kind of a let down there. They do however look much better in person. Why would the supra depreciation be any good? Supra's not rare, it's just a BMW underneath with off the shelf parts. Supra sales are poor for a new model at around 500 units per month while a 5 year old Corvette platform sells 1600 units a month (not to mention that in 2014 it sold 2900 units per month: carsalesbase.com/us-car-sales-data/chevrolet/chevrolet-corvette/
Toyota has a decent resale value and this being the launch edition will have lower than usual depreciation. There are the hardcore fans out there that love this car whether it's BMW or not and that will always drive price up.

Yes it could, but unfortunately that doesn't really affect the depreciation. Look at the MK4 Supra and what it costs today versus what it cost in the 90's.
Corvette guy who currently drives a 21' supra at the moment waiting for C8 prices to come back down....I can confirm that the Supra is an excellent drive at 56k I paid..BUT I would have bought another C7 if the prices were not sooo inflated right now. Same price...Vette all day everyday..even in normal Z51 stingray mode with a manual. Yes the Manual....I previously owned a C7 A8 corvette and put 92,000 miles on it....the Supra is better than a A8 corvette. Only reason I didn't go 7MT vette was the wife wanted the Supra...and after I drove it i got over the fake "style" vents....Plus I've always wanted a Z3 M coupe from back in the day....checkbox checked.
@ehiracheta That's great! My neighbor has a 2019 C7 Grandsport, but he mentioned that every so often, the instrument panel goes blank, so he must stop the car, turn it off and start it again. He certainly knows Corvettes and their electrical/electronic glitches, as he's had them for years. Supras are more reliable, yet are also loads of fun to drive. (As you know!)
Corvette Grand Sport all day, any day for me. The Supra is a great car but just a little too "boy racer" (just my opinion of course). I think the wide body vette ( GS, Z06, ZR1 ) looks better than the C8. Looks, performance, lots of storage space, removable top, available in manual, just love the Grand Sport!
I own a 17 grand sport, I'll take that all day long even on a newer supra. There's no comparison to the style. Vettes are bad a$$ all day long. The only thing on the supra that would have scored in my book was it did sound good, but it still wasn't a deep, mean growl like the vette.

Given that the Supra is basically a Z4 without the BMW badge, would you say that the 335i or M3 by far surpasses the Grand Sport? Or perhaps the Z4M would surpass the GS, given your rating system? Always looking forward to your latest video post. (Vette owner here, 2016 Stingray.)
I'm not typically a big fan of BMW so it's hard to say. I would have to review both of them side by side like I did here. The only reason this review even happened was because they're so similar in price and pretty close in performance. Typically the Vette wins by a good bit but because they're both the same price I tried my best to be unbiased.
I settled on a 7spd grand sport after giving up on a newer nsx only being auto. The vette had more performance specs like g force on cornering than any car in its price range, so for me the supra was not on my radar and not being fully designed by toyota.
I'm not either, for similar reasons I'm sure, but there are some people out there that would consider either car at this price point so I wanted to try to make a video as unbiased as possible.

Unfortunately, this is a poor review. Why? The Corvette is a triple crown WEC champion (Daytona, Sebring, Le Mans), same with Porsche. Toyota and BMW has neither = 0. We are reviewing two completely different categories of cars. Yes, it does matter. The GS has a rich history with Corvette racing; you can't say the same for a Supra.
That's not an MKV because there was no MKIV nor MKIII. The original Supra was a special edition Celica for crying out loud. Toyota never officially gave any Mark designations, BTW. It's some sort of fanbase concoction. BTW, comparing a stripped down beamer to the best performing front engine car platform of all time is a joke. If not for the obvious BMW bits (well, everything worth noting), even a PLII Mustang GT is a better performance vehicle than the Supra GR. The 'Stang isn't ugly as sin, either. 7/10 for styling? A 25 year-old Geo Storm looks better.
Not really. Both are chasing dollars for high end sports cars. Both are two seaters which is extremely rare. Now if they compared either of these to a new Mazda mx5 you would have a point. 0 to sixty on supra is 4.1 seconds. Top speed is 155 because it's electronically limited. But. The BMW x3 m40i suv no less will hit over 180 mph on autoband with the same setup. It's all bragging rites only to claim top speed. Anyone nearing those speeds should be locked up. What's the Toyota is going to get better gas mileage and it's going to be a lot more reliable you better believe it. The b-58 engine ZF 8-speed transmission are some of the best on the planet and very durable and Toyota has made it even more reliable. But if it's really that important yes the vet will do 60 in 1 second quicker in the quarter mile 1 second quicker as well. Really these have a lot more in common being they both are only available with automatics. And in that case the Toyota has a much better automatic with the ZF.
These cars are a lot more similar than most realize especially at this price point. The Vette still comes out on top but if you are open to any sports car then you'd realistically consider either of these at some point.

The higher model of Corvette you buy, the higher the depreciation; but a base Corvette stingray in 1LT does not depreciate much.
As a guy who have always been faithful to the Toyota Supra since the 80's, I would NEVER rank a 2020 BMW Supra over a 2019 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport. Unless the BMW Supra price is at $32,000 - $35,000 max, then yeah I might consider buying one because that's what it's worth. But for $58,000 to $65,000... there's no way I'll buy a BMW Supra. I'm calling it a BMW Supra because that's the truth!!!

Correction it's a BMW Supra a mutt and not a pedigree of anything. FT1 was the Japanese car that Toyota did not give us.
for around 40k it's a great car, but with these 2 cars being so close in dollar amount it's a hard sell on the Supra.
FT1 would have been VERY expensive.

The "big wall" on the driver's knee is a kneepad for extra bolstering for track driving. Purely functional for performance.

When I bought a 2019 Camry for my 17 year old son this past summer, the 2 Toyota salesman and manager both bought a new 2019 Corvette GS over a Supra.

Just an fyi, the front side vents are designed to were you can remove them for tracking (and are supposedly functional) ;)
Besides going straight, a 5 year old Corvette platform still 1) outcorners (more lateral G force) and 2) stops 10-14 ft shorter from 60-0 mph.

I think the Grand Sport is more trackable and more reliable.The Supra will be good for a bit but when something breaks it's going to be BMW cost to repair.

This was an interesting comparison review Justin. I never would have thought of it, probably because it's a Vette all day long for me, but I enjoyed it. I have to agree with Mike in that at $40k the Supra would be worth consideration, maybe. But it's pretty much a deal breaker at the current price. Save the Wave.🙋♂️

For me I don't really even need a sound system. That's what my exhaust is for. But honestly I agree that the Vette does not kill it with the Bose. Definitely room for improvement.

Honestly with your points it's a closer comparison than I thought. When I first clicked on the video I won't show you how big of an eye roll I gave but by the end I was right on board. Even at $85,000 to $60,000 I'd say it's a toss up. Just my opinion but I'm a vette lover
We both tried to be as unbiased as possible but at the end of the day it's really hard to give the Vette anything less than the W.

Nah, you guys both did a great job. Bias always exists, but it was very fair all things considered. The reality is the Grand Sport is just plain superior to the Supra in most categories. Doesn't make the Supra a bad car at all, it's just a case of a high level rookie Sports Car vs a low level veteran Supercar that was a much better bang for the buck in offerings and superior in performance. The results were as expected. My take on it. Hope you guys do another review like this soon.

The interior is why I’m leaning towards the Supra vs a C7, although I have a couple more months to choose. The C7 interior feels very dated to me. It’s not as behind as previous gen corvettes, but it’s still pretty bad in that regard.
Great video brother! And Merry Christmas! I have a 15 Stingray with the z51 and mag ride. A Grand Sport would have been a fair amount more so it's hard for me to be sad I did not get one. But I am curious exactly how much better it is then a regular Stingray?
Thank you. The Grand Sport is a nice middle between the Stingray and the Z06. It has the bigger brakes, wider fenders, and wider tires. Along with some suspension tweaks that's pretty much it. Depending on the difference in price it may or may not be worth it to you.

Awesome upload! Peter Carey sent me your way, although i have already seen a bunch of your videos and love your content. Would take the C7 over the supra anyday. The overall design is there but they should have made some real ventilation components in the supra. Thats kind of a let down there. They do however look much better in person. Actually, the B58 in the Supra is legendary and very reliable since the Supra was introduced.
Why would the supra depreciation be any good? Supra's not rare, it's just a BMW underneath with off the shelf parts. Supra sales are poor for a new model at around 500 units per month while a 5 year old Corvette platform sells 1600 units a month (not to mention that in 2014 it sold 2900 units per month: carsalesbase.com/us-car-sales-data/chevrolet/chevrolet-corvette/
Toyota has a decent resale value and this being the launch edition will have lower than usual depreciation. There are the hardcore fans out there that love this car whether it's BMW or not and that will always drive price up.

Yes it could, but unfortunately that doesn't really affect the depreciation. Look at the MK4 Supra and what it costs today versus what it cost in the 90's.

Corvette guy who currently drives a 21' supra at the moment waiting for C8 prices to come back down....I can confirm that the Supra is an excellent drive at 56k I paid..BUT I would have bought another C7 if the prices were not sooo inflated right now. Same price...Vette all day everyday..even in normal Z51 stingray mode with a manual. Yes the Manual....I previously owned a C7 A8 corvette and put 92,000 miles on it....the Supra is better than a A8 corvette. Only reason I didn't go 7MT vette was the wife wanted the Supra...and after I drove it i got over the fake "style" vents....Plus I've always wanted a Z3 M coupe from back in the day....checkbox checked.
And the Supra is now available with manual transmission, but I still love my 2024's ZF 8 transmission in Sport mode.

@ehiracheta That's great! My neighbor has a 2019 C7 Grandsport, but he mentioned that every so often, the instrument panel goes blank, so he must stop the car, turn it off and start it again. He certainly knows Corvettes and their electrical/electronic glitches, as he's had them for years. Supras are more reliable, yet are also loads of fun to drive. (As you know!)
Corvette Grand Sport all day, any day for me. The Supra is a great car but just a little too "boy racer" (just my opinion of course). I think the wide body vette ( GS, Z06, ZR1 ) looks better than the C8. Looks, performance, lots of storage space, removable top, available in manual, just love the Grand Sport!

I own a 17 grand sport, I'll take that all day long even on a newer supra. There's no comparison to the style. Vettes are bad a$$ all day long. The only thing on the supra that would have scored in my book was it did sound good, but it still wasn't a deep, mean growl like the vette.

Compare a MKIV twin turbo 6 speeds to a c7 Zr1 they are about the same price range. The MK4 Supra is the best Supra ever made IMO.

I noticed you gave the Vette the win with a small margin of 11 points. Given that the Supra is basically a Z4 without the BMW badge, would you say that the 335i or M3 by far surpasses the Grand Sport? Or perhaps the Z4M would surpass the GS, given your rating system?

I'm not typically a big fan of BMW so it's hard to say. I would have to review both of them side by side like I did here. The only reason this review even happened was because they're so similar in price and pretty close in performance. Typically the Vette wins by a good bit but because they're both the same price I tried my best to be unbiased.
I settled on a 7spd grand sport after giving up on a newer nsx only being auto. The vette had more performance specs like g force on cornering than any car in its price range, so for me the supra was not on my radar and not being fully designed by toyota.
You made the right choice in my opinion!

Unfortunately, this is a poor review. Why? The Corvette is a triple crown WEC champion (Daytona, Sebring, Le Mans), same with Porsche. Toyota and BMW has neither = 0. We are reviewing two completely different categories of cars. Yes, it does matter. The GS has a rich history with Corvette racing; you can't say the same for a Supra.
We're reviewing the two because they're the same price right now.
That's not an MKV because there was no MKIV nor MKIII. The original Supra was a special edition Celica for crying out loud. Toyota never officially gave any Mark designations, BTW. It's some sort of fanbase concoction.
BTW, comparing a stripped down beamer to the best performing front engine car platform of all time is a joke. If not for the obvious BMW bits (well, everything worth noting), even a PLII Mustang GT is a better performance vehicle than the Supra GR. The 'Stang isn't ugly as sin, either. 7/10 for styling? A 25 year-old Geo Storm looks better.

Not really. Both are chasing dollars for high end sports cars. Both are two seaters which is extremely rare. Now if they compared either of these to a new Mazda mx5 you would have a point. 0 to sixty on supra is 4.1 seconds. Top speed is 155 because it's electronically limited. But. The BMW x3 m40i suv no less will hit over 180 mph on autoband with the same setup. It's all bragging rites only to claim top speed. Anyone nearing those speeds should be locked up. What's the Toyota is going to get better gas mileage and it's going to be a lot more reliable you better believe it. The b-58 engine ZF 8-speed transmission are some of the best on the planet and very durable and Toyota has made it even more reliable. But if it's really that important yes the vet will do 60 in 1 second quicker in the quarter mile 1 second quicker as well. Really these have a lot more in common being they both are only available with automatics. And in that case the Toyota has a much better automatic with the ZF.
These cars are a lot more similar than most realize especially at this price point. The Vette still comes out on top but if you are open to any sports car then you'd realistically consider either of these at some point.

So I would have to disagree with you guys on Corvette's depreciation. The higher model of Corvette you buy, the higher the depreciation; but a base Corvette stingray in 1LT does not depreciate much.

As a guy who have always been faithful to the Toyota Supra since the 80's, I would NEVER rank a 2020 BMW Supra over a 2019 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport. Unless the BMW Supra price is at $32,000 - $35,000 max, then yeah I might consider buying one because that's what it's worth. But for $58,000 to $65,000... there's no way I'll buy a BMW Supra. I'm calling it a BMW Supra because that's the truth!!!
