    I'm an Android kind of guy but Android tablets will never be a true contender in the tablet industry until they begin converting all the apps to tablet specific apps which is where the iPad is king. Another place where the iPad is king is Facetime. There is NO messaging app out there like it that uses so little data and gives you such a smooth video call experience. I have an Android device for my mobile but for table an iPad cause I know when I travel to some third world country with crappy internet my Facetime will work. On that though, I WILL NOT shell out $1,000 for a new iPad, they're out of their minds. I don't need the newest iPad just for TH-cam, Facebook and Facetime cause let's be real that's all tablets are good for. Maybe some people here use it for other things but most people use it for those 3 things, so really the fact it has the king processor doesn't matter because it is limited to iOS and its maximum potential.

      Ahead, definitely. Decades....no. Apple's A12 soc is way ahead of Intel and the rest of the hardware is better but not by much. iOS vs Chrome OS is subjective and will vary from person to person. So hardware is better, software subjective but Chrome OS (in my opinion) is improving at a faster rate than iOS.

    EXCELLENT review, really worth it. The iPad Pro 2018 is definitely superior on both hardware and software BUT, this is only an IPad. It is not a device to seriously consider as a replacement of a laptop. The Pixel Slate is a bit a disappointment considering the price and the technology available out there, BUT as for all Chrome OS devices, you can completely switch to it from your computer. As long as you work 100% on a cloud base (better with Google Suite), you can say goodbye to your computer and work exclusively on the Pixel Slate. If you want to enjoy a Chrome OS experience with a real tablet, I highly recommend to try the HP Chromebook X2 which is really cheap compared to the Pixel Slate, and wait for the next generation of the Pixel Slate, Google will hopefully improve its hardware and overall performances.

      Yep. Honestly, I think Google's reason for chromebooks sucking while Android is good is the same reason Macs are sucking while iOS is good. They both rely on intel chips, while that company keeps fucking up more and more and more and more. The sooner both Google and Apple can completely break away from intel, is when ChromeOS and macOS start to have some *truly* good hardware.

      Jon Son absolutely do not get a surface pro, as students our income is usually shit. Surface pros fail, I know this personally from the two I have owned. They are a waste of money. If you want windows, just get a laptop but absolutely stay farrrrrrrrrr away from Microsoft’s surface line. I also have personal experience with the IPad Pro. The i pad won’t fail on you, it will remain stable and it will last you a long time. It is the perfect device for notes and textbooks, it’s actually amazing once you get everything set up!! Depending on your major, it just won’t cut it for everything. If you are in a liberal arts major, and excel isn’t a biggy, then the iPad will suit you all the way through college. If you need excel a lot, and you are doing coding I would recommend getting a laptop as there isn’t a good alternative to the iPad that gives you a great excel experience with enough juice for coding. Also, the battery on the iPad when only used for school and class will last you days. If you already have a laptop, or desktop with windows, or apples OS then absolutely get the iPad as if you do possibly come across something you can’t do, then you can just do it on you desktop or laptop.

      RealSupaHotFireVEVO - I’m sorry but I heavily disagree. I had every intention to buy a Surface Pro this year but it just doesn’t function nearly as well as an iPad as a touch only device. Every single thing you do on an iPad is designed for touch input. You can’t say that for the Surface. For my personal needs the 12.9 iPad is much better. I’m a professional musician and I keep 1000s of pages of sheet music on my iPad. The Surface is skinnier in portrait mode and isn’t nearly as good for reading music. The camera is better on the iPad and I often use it to scan new sheet music. I use the Pencil to mark up sheet music in ForScore. The iPad has Bluetooth 5.0 and the Surface has 4. I need the lowest latency possible when using a Bluetooth speaker. Windows is obviously more capable than iOS and the Surface Pro could likely replace my MacBook... but it can’t replace my iPad.

    The slate is a crappy Chromebook but you really cannot and should not compare the experience between iOS and ChromeOS. ChromeOS is more akin to a desktop with better file management, more user options and DESKTOP browser support. The Android apps (where the geekbench test was run) runs in a container and so are really throttled. They are more there for additional productivity functionality. The iPad has its entire amazing app ecosystem and the best chip out there (A12) but it does not give you pc-like experience at all. So really ... We shouldn't compare the two. That being said, Google is really going against the entire point of Chromebooks by launching something that overpriced.

    why did you use m3 processor for a total of 1100$? you could've used an i5 processor which costs 1300. That would be closer to ipad pro in terms of cost and performance........

    • @pissedoffhoneybadger3733
      @pissedoffhoneybadger3733 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      They're m5 and m7 processors. Intel just changed the names to i5 and i7 for marketing purposes due to bad sales because m5 and m7 sound weak. Either way, all 3 options would be slower but not slower at the same time. Different CPU architectures.

    It's a little odd that you start with a term and a definition which includes 'usually' an attachable keyboard and trackpad and then name niche leader as the ipad - which notoriously has no trackpad or support for a cursor at all.
    Ultimately this was nothing but a spec sheet comparison of benchmark outcomes. interestingly you start by pointing out that the Pixel has a technically superior screen but then go on to say it does not matter in use. Then you take most of the video to say the ipad is faster in benchmarks but make little comment as to how that presents itself in actual use. Namely - how meaningful is it actually when I'm just surfing the web or writing a document. You do mention the ipad seems to hold up better in practical use while running a video but also mention the many apps it's also running in the background. What does that mean? What apps and what is it doing with them in the background. If it's rendering video back there or something OK. If it just has an app in a parked state then so what...
    Finally you completely fail to mention that along with that trackpad and cursor you get a full blown desktop style interface from the pixel in docked configuration. Meaning fully floating and resizable windows and very mature external monitor support. The latest ipad pro has only basic external monitor cloning.
    Don't get me wrong the ipad pro is an impressive piece of hardware and for that matter iOS has a lot of great features too. But if we are talking about using it as a laptop then it simply doesn't do what the pixel does.
    Frankly I think Slate is a pretty good first gen unit compared to the polish of the ipad pro which is the product of multiple generations of heaps of attention by Apple. Not that this contrast means much to what a person might choose.
    To me it's pretty simple. If I want to do anything with music then it's definitely the ipad. If I want to have an actual computer experience with a cursor and full browser and run an external monitor if I want then it's definitely the pixels. If I want multi user support then it's definitely the pixel. In between there is lots of room for personal choice and familiarity and perhaps specific knowledge of specific apps and what they might do.
    Lastly I think leaving anything about Linux out is pretty dismissive. The usual toss off comment about Windows being 'more' or 'better' or 'full fledged' or whatever is just sloppy and vague and at this point a worn and somewhat meaningless cliche. If you think Windows is more capable then say exactly why. Exactly what apps you run or feel most people run that Windows does and Chrome OS does not. There are certainly some to choose from. Some people will care about that. Many won't. It's like saying a truck is more fully featured than small two door car. Yes. Does that mean everyone should just buy a truck? Don't be silly.

      Also at 7:35 when you put the specs of the Pixel Slate up on screen you show 128GB memory but I think it must be 64GB if it's the m3.

    There is no tablet other than the iPad for one simple reason: Apps.
    You can cram as much features as you want behind a touch screen, but with no tablet optimized software, it is completely worthless as a tablet. Could be a horrible laptop with good pen support (MS Surface), but not a tablet. Could be a horrible everything (Whatever Google makes), definitely not a tablet.

      If you want a nice chrome book with a touch screen, just get a pixel book. They’re just trying to make a less expensive and inadvertently worse pixel book. But if you buy anything less than the i5 (and even that is slow and laggy occasionally) it doesn’t make sense, and it that point you’re spending 1k anyway, so you may as well get it with a keyboard included.

    IMO sadly I cant say any OS does mobile Tablet right. Microsoft devices have a lot of problems, but great OS. Apple and Google offer great Tablets, but lack a Desktop mode.
    If Apple would do a iPad MacOS Desktop Mode, I would run out and buy one. I'm no Apple Fanboy, my last Apple device was a iPhone 4, but the new iPad is so good!

      Lagger Gandalf I think iPad needs it’s own system, or an iOS independent of iPhone’s iOS. Apple tested out touch control macOS years ago, and decided not to do so because of limitations.

    • @itsasadbunny
      @itsasadbunny 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      IMO I think it may actually be a bad idea to run MacOS simply because the iPad Pro is at the end of the day a tablet, and so needs to run a tablet OS. I think the Pixel Slate isn't a good Tablet software wise because it runs chrome OS. Sure Chrome OS supports touch but because its not built around touch they UI is very laggy and not very intuitive. Same goes for Windows, its a desktop OS with touch support but because its not build with touch it falls behind the iPad. Apple should simply give us some desktop functions like proper file explorer, mouse support and etc... but still run IOS. And if possible make some sort of desktop version of some Apps like Adobe, Blender etc... for the IPad.
