  • The Richards of TNK Tackle will show you how to replace the impeller on a Mercury 9.9. We are not nor do we claim to be engine mechanics. If you choose to follow these procedures you do at your own risk.

Can’t believe anyone can complain about the video. I really appreciated it!

It looked like you rotated the vertical drive shaft counter-clockwise when setting the pump housing over the impeller. Does the crank on this engine run counter clockwise when looking down from the top? If they run clockwise (viewed from above) then shouldn't the vertical driveshaft also be turned clockwise when seating the impeller to make sure the impeller fins flip the correct way?
    🤔

Thanks guys! This really helped. I marked my Linkage/Shift Rod with a Sharpie before disassembly and recommend you do the same so reassembly goes a bit easier for the shifting. Tight Lines and Calm Seas!

How is your kicker working I have the same engine 2014 model and did my impeller recently and mine is moving alot more water than yours. Just want to add that you have to pay attention to the shift rod and how much gap if any there is between the two rods when taking it apart so that it goes back together the same way.

Thanks for asking. It has been going well. In the Pyramid Lake videos you can hear it because we go twice as fast at Pyramid fishing for cutthroat than we do at Shaver fishing Kokanee. We move a lot of water through the motor now that we are in the lake. The 'earmuffs' as my wife calls them didn't seal well and a lot of water when out the bottom at the entry instead of up through the motor.
Great talking to you. Tight lines!

It is working great and we have not had a single problem with it.

Absolutely we need to play with the shift rod to get it back into position.

What kind of grease do you use and were exactly do you put it? I'm gonna replace the impeller on my mercury 9.9 kicker hopefully this weekend...thanks

We used some marine grease on the impeller to help it seat and move easily.

He put it back dry meaning no start up grease or anything.
The rubber on plastic may get pretty warm if there’s no water around it for lube.

There is grease in the impeller... inside the center and along the 'blades' of the impeller. At 4:40 grease is spoken about, but the angle of the camera is bad. At 5:16 a slight difference in color can be seen. My wife had cut a section of the video because of outside noise. Thanks for watching and sharing concerns. It is important to have a 'dab of grease' as motor man says to reduce friction and heat as you state. Thanks again.
