@@HammerWrench last question How much do you think it would cost for all the material now days I saw a tent trailer Was thinking of buying it for this type of build
Thanks! It tows easy behind my Excursion. Now I know it’s estimated 1600 weight is nothing for my V10 to tow, but I think a car could easily do it. The balance is so good that the tongue weight is light. My wife can effortlessly lift it with one hand off the ground. I posted a short of it on my channel. Doesn’t sway or lean hard on turns. I’m happy with it. It cost $1600 in material to convert it to our set up. The 240v 50amp electric panel and cord are overkill and that could have shaved some cost off by keeping the 35amp 120v system.
Absolutely! You should document your build and post it. My first vid has 12k views since September of 22. There is definitely interest and I’ve never seen an ice fishing one.
The unit is still a pop up camper even though it’s hard side. I didn’t change the frame, axle, or tongue so it wouldn’t need reinspection. It’s a lot like renovating a home. As long as the original structure and footprint is there, no permission is needed. Or at least I don’t ask for it. Thank you for the compliment and go out there and build the thing you see in your mind. I’m sure it’ll be great. Lastly, video document it. This series is my most viewed of any videos so there is interest out there.
I've been thinking about it for several years I just haven't gotten around to actually doing it but now I have funding to be able to so I'm in the market to find a pop-up to start
His name is Cleatis and he is our neighbor. He is a Navy Veteran and is currently 96 years old. If we were ever working outside, he would come supervise. Asks about my bony thumb in one video. He is a pretty funny man. th-cam.com/users/shortsSAdPXa4PmMU?si=mKLYuAMBrW9Hmq1E
We have repurposed it to be a mobile office. It could be slept in with a mattress or sleeping bag, but we didn’t want to use it for camping. Now if you wanted to build beds, frames could be done on the walls and folded up when not sleeping.
The unit was about 500 lbs lighter as a Hardside than a camper. While very tall in towing configuration, our Ford Excursion didn’t even know it was back there.
We had plans for them but all the companies we checked that sold the shed style windows were all out of stock. It would be easy to put them in if purchased in the future.
Looks great.
Thank you! It was a fun build.
Nice 👍
Definitely need to do this for myself
Thanks! Give it a shot. It isn’t very hard. Got a whole series of videos for each step.
@@HammerWrench if it's not too much too much to ask
How much you think it weighs after all that
Heavier or lighter
I estimated 1600 lbs. afterwards. Amy was able to lift the hitch without a strain. About 2200 lbs in camping form.

@@Alaric-u9i we did all of this a couple years ago and I think it was about $1500 in material when it was complete. Of course the labor was free!
How does that tow down the road I want to do something like that to icefish out of great video

There is a 9 video series on the build. Check it out.
Thank you I will check out the build I have a Chevy suburban so that should pull up pretty good it would make a great ice fishing shack

I will that will be cool
After doing all that work to that were you still able to register it under the original title or did you have to do some sort of a homemade title
I'm thinking about doing something similar to this myself just wondering if it's still able to register as the original unit
I do like what you did with it though it looks very nice

@@jamesthornton-ei9fc go for it James! Look for a good roof and floor. The rest gets junked when hard siding.
I want to know who this little man is, who is just standing around annoying everyone and then stands in front of the camera! 😂

Thank you so much!
Ok why would you take the beds out sit in the trailer and sleep in tent

It's a stupid idea. The frame and axle of a pop-up was never meant to support this kind of weight. Plus, the tow like a skyscraper.
