Correction: They do make 1.5in wheel spacers for JTs and JLs, but Spidertrax only makes a 1.75in. Feel free to comment any questions you may have, or your opinion on wheel spacers!
The flange does NOT carry the weight of the vehicle. The clamping force of the lug nuts carries the weight. That’s why you said you haven’t had a problem even after several years.
Mine is stock '12 Sahara with 35mm spacers and 275 70 18 stock wheels. Looks amazing, but you need to reprogram tire size for safety of transmission. They are in the Body Computer
Is there something different with the red locktite? I used to work in a drive train shop about 16 years, (before I joined the military) and had probably installed, replaced, replaced, etc lug studs, control arms, differential cover bolts, axles, knuckles, all types of suspension on maybe just over 2k vehicles in about 4.5 years. I think I used red locktite on most everything and when people returned for warranty work, new upgrades, etc, I would just remove the bolts and nuts with my Snap on air ratchet. I can’t recall ever having to use a torch or any type of impact gun to remove any bolts. I’m not arguing here, just wondering if this has changed since then. I’m an aerospace engineer now in R&D and still build stuff with blue and red locktite and I don’t have issues with removing the bolts by hand. But I also still work on my own cars using RED locktite. I have never had to use a torch yet. Side note, when people used JBWeld, that would normally require more torque and more replacement of parts.
Thank You! I ordered the Spidertrax spacers through your comments link. Hope you get a little$ from it. VERY Good and informative video. We need more of this honest and detailed content on TH-cam,
Hello, great video! I have 2019 Rubicon JL, I was just wondering about the minimum wheel spacer size, clearing the bolts once installed without having to modifying\shorten the OEM bolts?
Hey, thanks! The smallest I have found are a set of 1.25in spacers on Extreme Terrain. They have photos of people with them installed, so it seems like they work!
I mean if the nut moves any during the after a few weeks/months re torque , then the lock-tight must have not done a great job. Ideally none of the bolts will need to be tightened, but its more of a safety check I think👍🏼
I have Spidertrax spacers running 35x12.5 R20s (1.5" on L:ethal Rims..I forget the backspacing w/ Rock Krawler lift -thick trailing arms) and I have taken my Jeep offroading on some very difficult terrain with no isues. If you want to save money on them (and I can't say for certain they still do this) ask them if they have some spacers with "visual issues". Wha I mean by this is that Spidertrax annodizes their spacers and occasionally the annodizing gets blemishes which don't look shiny and perfect, but they still function perfectly and are still fully coated. They just don't look as purdy. I bought a set of 4 and (maybe I was lucky), but mine looked almost perfect except for a couple of small spots where the finish was a little duller than the rest of the spacer. I forget how much I saved (maybe $50?). Might be worth asking about if you order directly from tthem. No one's gonna see them, but you anyway.
Perfect video on how to do! Im having a hard time finding 2in spacers for my 2019 JLU. Only can find 1.5. Do you have any budget 2in spacers you can suggest. Would be awesome. Thanks
I don’t think spacers have a negative effect on any of those things, but I don’t know it for a fact. Would need to do more research. Thanks for the comment!
BTW, (just guessing here) Red Loctite might be a pain if you decide you want to keep your spacers, but you end up swapping out your rotors later...or maybe not? If you end up swapping out yours, and it is or isn't an issue, will you please update?
Red Loctite is high strength. But still allows for removal... just with more effort. Blue Loctite is the "hey if you don't mind could you just stay here without spinning off" version... and now Orange Loctite which is about half way between Blue and Red.@@jamesyers1975 Yes... yes... I am replying to a post from a year ago.... I am assuming you already know this by now... lol.
Regarding using red thread locker, I hate the thought of having to blow torch the studs to get the lugs on the spacer off in the future. What's your thoughts on using blue thread locker instead?
Hi love the video thx! My new 2020 JL Sport came from the dealer new with a 2.5 in lift and 35 in tires. I've seen marks from where the tires rub on the suspension components when turned all the way right and left. The tires already stick out 2 inches from the stock fenders which I like, but more is better. I'd like to run wheel spacers for both reasons but the so called "truck guy" at the dealership said it would void the warranty if I did. He scoffed at me when I told him and he said "don't they stick out far enough". BTW the little old lady who drives her car only on Sundays to church passes this mall crawler and throws me a dirty look for holding her up...The only thing I ask of this Jeep is to make me look cool going to the pharmacy...What to do? and if I do which size to get 1.75 or 2? Thanks again!
The “void the warranty” claim sounds ridiculous😂 I would stick with the lower size of wheel spacer, as I really can’t notice the extra .25” that the 2in would give you over the 1.75. I bet you could do either tho, but I would be sure to go with hub centric! Do you already have aftermarket wheels?
@@TacticalJK yes so I have 35 in Ridge Grapplers on 20 inch Fuel rims that stick out 2 inches already but more is better. These rims must have a negative off set to do that already?
Just a thought, is making a video about something that is illegal for on road use in most states something nyounwant to do without a disclaimer. Very good well thought out vid but theybare illegal for a reason .wanna take a guess what that is?what,u give up? There not safe
So I just upgraded my Jeep to 37s. I have a lift, but my back tires are hitting the frame, so trimmed that about a inch. Would you recommend spacers or recommend a different rim. I have no clue about offset and backspace, but when I look at it. It looks like the wheel needs to go outward a bit and back from the step of that make senses
Hey! Spacers or new wheels should both bring them out, so I would just go whichever is best for the budget. I would probably go for new wheels at that point, but spacers will do the same job if you like your current wheels. If you want to bring the tires back away from the steps, you might need to look at longer/ adjustable control arms for the rear axle ($$$).
Keep them off! I believe the washers are to hold the rotors in place while the jeep is originally assembled. The factory wheels are designed to fit over the washers, but the new spacer (or aftermarket wheels) will likely not be designed to fit over them.
Hey! Its a smittybilt xrc mod front bumper with the mid width end plates! I have a VERY old video review on my channel if you want some info.... if you don’t mind low quality video😂
That's probably about the right interval, but I actually do not know the answer for sure. I should have researched that and put it in the video, my bad!
Hey! I am running a spare tire relocation bracket for the back tire, which brings the tire up and out from the stock location. Mine was from e-a-autogrills on amazon and set me back like $45.
You wouldn't Loctite your wheel studs. Why would you Loctite your hubs? I would use never seize. Torqued correctly and they won't come undone. Unless you want them to. You won't get them off with Loctite.
To keep everything centered, balanced, and to avoid over-stressing the bolts I would think. Your can get a budget torque wrench for cheap and use it for lots of other Jeep stuff, so I would just go ahead and get one if your on the fence.
Wheel spacers are not they are garbage and in Minnesota they are illegal to run on a vehicle or Interstate or Highway so make sure you check your local laws
Do not use wheel spacers. They KILLED my friends daughter. I think I’m just going to add spacers on my next oil change / tire rotation at the dealership.
Red Loktite is permanent, can only be removed by torch, to 500 degrees. Use Blue
