Yesterday I saw a Ronin charge all the way to my team's side in several seconds in LTS. My team closed him in a circle and proceeded to obliterate him in mere moments. Seems the pilot watched this video and got too arrogant.
I think he thought he was flanking, but what he was really doing is stating a death wish. All I have to say is

To any new players just coming by this guide, the Turbo Engine bug where the dashes would regen slower has been patched. Turbo Engine now regens at the same speed as regular
Hey man I'm struggling with ronin allot and would like to hear from u what kit u run for ronin and any tips for him. I really want to be good with him but I'm getting closer to just maining monarch.
@@austinclark6385 sword block is BIG and knowing when to run is important. Block your enemies fire when you engage and use electric smoke to corral them. But know when you need to run, like a smart core legion or 2+ titans shooting you.
@@liamradeke9475 does the sword block work on multiple titans and have a 360 radius around ronin? Maybe that's my problem is that I'm thinking I can just go in blazing and try to steam role when I should be more passive n look for a opening
@@austinclark6385 yes it works 360 and blocks multiple titans damage. Ronin should be somewhat passive and wait for openings. However another good way to play him is to rely on your teammates like Frothy said. Go in and soak up the damage and drop smoke while your teammates deal damage to the enemy

One thing I didn't note -- It's very important to use terminations to your advantage, and to know when to avoid them. If you're going hard on a group of Titans, here's the idea: If they're looking at you and focusing you, consider performing a termination to become invincible temporarily and give your phase dash a chance to recharge for free. If they aren't looking at you, consider avoiding the termination so you aren't locked into the animation -- continue damaging and killing targets normally!
I do a termination I'd it's available when someone blows there core on me
FrothyOmen one other thing you forgot (but you've said elsewhere) is that arc wave can take out the Tone particle wall. Thanks! This video is very helpful!

In LTS, a termination will be important, most people eject while doomed anyway, might as well just kill the pilot too if they're still in the cockpit. Save yourself the trouble of getting stunned left and right.
I find there's a moment when I can't move after a termination but others can hit me, but I can still press phase dash which helps
Ronin is my most played Titan, and one reason I love him is because of how he ruins Tone. Arc Wave destroys Tone's Particle Wall, Phase Dash removes Tone's Tracking Rockets lock-on, and Tones aren't that powerful in CQC Titan battles, so Ronin is able to constantly dodge Tone's attacks, and strike back with much more power.

I've melee locked ronin's as tone, drop wall, pop smoke, punch like crazy, it can't hit you even with it's extended melee range! Just make sure you get the first punch!
Honestly Ronin North Star and Scorch are my preferred batyles as a Tone and Monarch player. I fight at a lot of distance though so usually ive taken enough health that by the time there close a salvo core or solid rocket barrage and Chaingun can finish than..i do feel like theres a lot of noob ronins just because he looks cool though

Updates from the future:
If you crouch at the exact same time as you sword block, the sword block comes out almost TWICE AS FAST. This makes it EVEN BETTER!
After the first half of your arc wave, you can phase dash to make the second half safe.
You can use phase dash to prevent the damage from pilot rodeos as they pull out a battery.
If you dash, then immediately phase dash (almost at the same time), your phasedash will go twice as far.
During sword core, if you press attack while in the middle of any other animation (for example, you click melee while in the middle of a previous swing), your swing will COMPLETELY WHIFF. Wait until your previous attack/arc wave/sword block finishes before using melee again!

I think it should also be noted that Ronin's mitigation skill is the only one that doesn't immediately get turned off when its being hit by a core ability.

No, I mean it doesn't immediately get cancelled out if it gets hit by a Core ability. If you try blocking Core abilities with Gunshield, Particle Wall, Vortex Shield or Flame Shield, the skills immediately get overpowered and go on cooldown. Ronin's Sword Block is the only defensive skill that doesn't get cancelled out when getting hit by a Core ability.
+Dave Boy it's still pretty impressive for Ronin to be up there with Legion when it comes to blocking damage.
Jamie Lee it's because the sword is not a ability it's an accessory for him unlike the others those are energy base and if your getting overloaded of what your supposed to maintain but it gets too much to handle
So when people say Legion is OP, remember this video.

Played frontier defense for the first time today using your tips. Holy cow, your tips saved my ronin so many times.
if you're going to play frontier defense, use highlander as ronin kit, its the best kit for him there
Not that this matters at all, but the difficulty stars on the titans are so wrong. In reality, Ion and Tone are easy to master, Legion and Northstar are average, and Ronin and Scorch are hard.
Go SKC Northstar is the only titan i can't use. It makes me sad cause i love the noise when the Rifle fires.
phsyco squid Just stay far back and close to cover. If a Titan like Ronin gets close, throw out your trap and pop an electric smoke. Also, having 3 dashes is extremely useful. And cluster missile is way better than it first appears (huge Northstar fan here lolz)

In fairness it's not hard to dodge considering the barrel glows as it charges so watch the glow and boost.
That phaseshift trick is pretty neat! i have been having fun playing Ronin, since i learned this tip from you FrothyOmen. Also the Sword block helped me stay alive more, its really valuable lesson.

what i do is add an extra dash and an extra arc wave in addition to a battery boost for a shield. i dance around them shooting my shotgun, dropping smoke and stunning them in addition to my phase dash which if im super outnumbered i phase out then dash away. but i definitely like your loadout and think ill try!
It takes a lot more skill than people think to get a multi-nuke kill in LTS.
It's more luck than skill unless the enemy team's positioning is really bad.
SteelFyire For daytime XB1, it's very easy. But at night, the players are more skilled and it's harder to catch someone. They usually aren't dumb enough to clutter in a lane. Daytime does it all the time though.
Really well done! I didn't know a lot of this. I would like to add though, as something I've learned, which is really helpful when you are attempting to deal with a high-health low-speed titan (Scorch especially) is that you can reload while phase dashing, which can give you brief invincibility plus a quick few extra shots.

So, basically be an annoying distraction and try to get as much attention as possible and then let your friends to do the dirty work .
You know, for a samurai, Ronin has very little honor.
if a loser that just steals kills and runs nuclear eject than yea but if you actually fight with skill then you can get your own kills 1 got 100k damage and 10 kills with Ronin. people like saying oh he's weak i can only attack when the enemy is weak bleh i can take down a full health tone or legion by myself and have 1and a half bars of health if done right 1 bar if i mess up my combo i use

My ronin is at generation 29 and to my suprise i actually learned a couple mechanics that i was not aware of(phase dashing to prevent rodio damage, was one i was completely oblivious to). thank you for the very informative video :)

I used to only use Legion as my titan and got bored with him bc i played with him so much. After using Ronin for a few matches and getting frustrated bc I wasnt using him right I checked out this video and its made me so much better at Ronin. Ok, they're not official, just my recommendations.
The point of the core abilities is to make you very lethal for the duration of the core. I believe all the cores serve their purpose well, except for the fundamental flaw that Sword Core has. While the damage of the core is acceptable, the doom state interactions are terrible.
A swing from sword core on a doomed titan will not kill. That is a downgrade from the normal melee! It disables executions and requires another swing, literally doubling your time to kill on doomed titans. Sword Core hinges on its ability to kill doomed titans. Ronin is tied for the lowest base health alongside Northstar, therefore any extra damage he takes while trying to do the second, finishing swing is infinitely more detrimental to Ronin.
This fundamental flaw also ruins the point of the Highlander perk in many cases. The perk, which allows for longer duration from titan kills, is very powerful, except that many people will steal kills from you during Sword Core. Because it leaves a tiny bit of health, ANY form of damage will steal the kill from you. If Highlander got buffed to give the duration on assists, all would be well, aside from the fact that Sword Core is doing a little too small of damage.
TLDR: Let Sword Core one hit kill doomed titans; allow Highlander buff on assists.
MrNeonRox I agree with the increased damage but the highlander shouldn't work with assists because imagine just hitting an enemy titan two or three times and getting the increased sword core duration. But the damage should definitely be increased to 1HK doomed titans
I use sword block mostly there are many pilots attacking me or facing with a Tone or legion, Yes Ronin is my favorite titan but i rarely counter enemy Titans directly, I always flank to use all of his potential and deal massive damage, especially from behind a bunch of Titans, shock wave is very useful to slow northstars and other 2 dashes titans, and it can eliminate Tone and legion shield, making them panic and help your teammates. I have to admit that now i just realize the anti-battery stolen by phase dashing although my ronin is G11, good tip, good tip!
Can shock wave eliminate Legion´s shield? Isn´t it only Tone´s?
icegobro I think 2 shocks will remove it, or maybe I am wrong because that shield goes off very fast :D, as a ronin you wo'nt have much problem because you are fast and get to cover, avoding that shield easily then re-engage

I love Ronin, he really does have a great kit, there were 2 times that i went against 3 titans and absolutely obliterated them, you gotta have a good strategy tho, like ronin says, plan and stay focused

Most players don't. You need to get to the point where you're blocking too much and need to start being more aggressive, going in that direction is easy. Trying to ease off on the damage to mix sword block in is an impossible task that will eave you dying quickly.

Dude, I wish! Any pvp game I play, everyone has fucking god-like reaction time.
When I see an enemy, first I have to process if that is a player or just a background object I mistook for a player. Then I have to see if they are friend or foe. Aaand finally I need to aim at them and shoot. So it takes approximately 1 second before I decide to pull the trigger. Which by that time, I'm usually dead.
They see 1 pixel of me, and they already know that I'm an enemy, what character I'm playing, what my stats are, my favourite dish is and where I live.
Why can't there be servers for inhuman-godlike-superplayers and servers for normal, puny, filthy casuals like me?

I just want to say a sincere thank you. I loved ronin the moment he was revealed in the trailer. When I'd play I would build pure damage with the extra sword projectile, but I died so much. This video made me realize how crucial blocking and building core is, and now I die less, get more kills, help the team win, and often get mvp. Thank you again

probably, because unless you're playing against a team of braindead people, they will get away from the explosion in time

Still not enough, Legions & Scorchs might be slow but you'll just graze them at most. Oh, and of course, if they're running dash core, they will get away scot free.

Thank you. Real Nice job. I played Ronin all yesterday and finally got to the Phase Reflex, not double smoke and didn't realize massive value of sward block, although I did figure that out and the hit and run deal. Also, the early drop advice is great plan.

This is some of your finest work yet, Frothy. It has me pumped to really dig into Ronin and start ironing out some of the flaws in my piloting with it. It's been tempting a lot of times to look at Ronin as a situational or impractical pick compared to alternatives, but after seeing you in action and watching this vid I feel like a lot of people, myself included, haven't been giving this Titan the respect it deserves.
