    It is always nice to see an Engl demo which really shows what these thing can do. There is too many demos only a lousy clean with chorus and "chugchug öriröri kick drum says pihpih rytyryty tyngtyng öri" metal tones.

  • @InGrindWeCrust2010

    Great demo. They sound pretty similar. Good for pristine clean and high gain. It may have been the settings, but the crunch sounds on these amps were brutal.

    Engl and metal are like hands and gloves but it's really refreshing to hear some bosanova on a high gain amp !The girl from ipanema is really an unusual and excellent choice to demo the versaility and clean tones of the Artist Edition

    I think that they both sound pretty darn great. They both have some differences between them, although it is very subtle. Either one will greatly improve upon your tone. Both of them has wayyy more gain than I would ever need but, it would be great to know that I have more gain than I need just in case I ever want or need it. They both sound very musical to my ears but I just wish someone would put out a demo of these amps that highlights what lies between the clean channel and the face melting hi-gain sounds.

      John, I own a E650 and it's always been a struggle for me to get it great in that in-between range. It's an absolute beast of a clean and gain sound. Midgain is not bad, but it's not the amps strong card. I like it for the higain and clean.

    Anyone feel free to correct me but the Artist seems to have a bit more gain and low end than the Blackmore other than that I can't hear much difference.

    I am wondering. Do you have a Power Meter at home? Something you can plug into a power socket and actually measure the power being drawn out of the socket? If yes, can you please do the experiment of putting your power meter on the socket, connect your amplifier to the power meter. Put the amplifier at low volume - gage value of 1, 2 and 3. And can you report back how many watts of power you are spending to play at bedroom level? Also, I am curious ot know wat what value of volume do you start drawing 100 wat of power - I believe the amp can drink as much as 450 WATT INPUT and put out a max of 100 WATT. So I would like to know what is the BASELINE of power consuimption. And what value it gets serious.

      @TheImbianchino I just watched a Mick Box gear review. His roadie said the artist series has a built-in noise gate. Please google that review. He said it was basically the Blackmore amp. But the artist series and has a noise gate. Google that, and you'll have your answer. I'm sorry if I gave you the wrong information. But I'm positive, that's what he said. Check it out. Let me know if I was high or something. lol 😆 rock on 🤘also we all know the tubes are different. I don't know if he meant built-in noise gate or he uses a noise gate with it. I have no idea.

    Both amps sounds good, just a matter of taste as always. Artist sounds brighter and more lively, Blackmore sounds darker and has more "rounder" kind of sound. I like e651 more, Blackmore model sounds kinda dull to me, compared to artist edition model

    The diference are in the front color silver vs gold (Silver wins, I think) and the signature to the left of the stand by button (Which I don't care) :P

  •  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Maybe this is because I have a Blackmore but Blackmore wins I would say. Much tighter and articulated sound. Thank you for the comparison.
    By the way, I have a Kemper so maybe I will consider your RB profiles.

    • @MICKEYISLOWD
      @MICKEYISLOWD 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Does the Kemper 'feel' like a great tube amp does? I bought guitar rig a few yrs ago and I was a totally dejected when I first tried it out. Hate the sterile flat feel it has and I have never tried it since. Kemper sounds amazin' but if it feels digital then I just can't accept that as I won't enjoy the sound that I love.

      i have a blackmore, and i have to say that engl make the best master volumes in the business. mine's in my basement, and even at night with master below 1/10 and channel volume at about 3/10 it still sounds amazing. but i second the 20 watt demand. i have the ironball too, and that poweramp with the blackmores preamp would be amazing!

    • @MICKEYISLOWD
      @MICKEYISLOWD 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have the e520 preamp which was made in the 80s and I got it from ebay about 6 months ago. It was used by George Lynch predominantly on many of his albums and live too. It is the preamp way before the ENGL e530 and it sounds great but the guy I got it from said you need a top notch power amp to really hear the quality of tone it can produce. But I got to say ENGL are a brilliant brand and the e520 sounds every bit as good as a triaxis in a few sound clips I have listened to on u-tube. Now I'm looking for a high quality power amp to buy also I have the Gmajor 1st edition which is the best sounding FX out there especially with the Matrix system running serial/parallel or any combination you like. Have you tried the ENGL power amp or any good sounding amps to look out for?

    • @givemeajackson
      @givemeajackson 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i have an e570 special edition preamp, and while i use it predominantly through the blackmore's poweramp (i just fucking love everything about that amp!!!), i had an engl e850 and i really liked it. there's also the e810 which is el84 2x 20 watts, very interesting for home applications. if i couldn't just run the e570 through the ironball i'd have that one. at least here in switzerland, used poweramps go quite cheaply quite often online, i got the e850 for 400 bucks, but i'd say the e520 should sound great through any good tube poweramp, and even with something like a rocktron velocity. the e570 definitely does. i'd say keep an eye on the used market. the marshall el34 50/50 seem to popo up quite often, and i think el34 and engl was always an awesome combination.

    • @givemeajackson
      @givemeajackson 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      btw, isn't the e520 basically the engl straight preamp? damn that thing must be awesome. the few straights that are left these days go for insane amounts of money., but for some reason people are never really interested in preamps. they just seem to go under the radar somehow. i got my e570 for 650 bucks, and full e670 heads with exactly the same preamp built into them go for over 2000...

    • @123lowp
      @123lowp 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      the 5881 tubes in the power section of the Blackmore have a "brittle" characteristic when the amp is turned up.
      the EL34 tubes in the power section of the Artist Edition do not have a "brittle" characteristic.
      5881 tubes are low wattage 6L6s.
      I'm guessing that putting 6L6s in the Blackmore would make it sound less "brittle".

    • @aryinc
      @aryinc 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      6l6's are great for some good metal. but i'm personal fond with el34 due to the old marshal ish nature. and i'm not even the slightest of a marshall fan.

    • @JaimeNoro
      @JaimeNoro 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The difference in sound when turned up might depend greatly on the amps output transformer. The Blackmore's OT is surprisingly small for a 100 watt head. I know, I have one. My guess is the Artist model has a bigger/better OT compared with the Blackmore.

    • @starblaster77
      @starblaster77 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I use 6l6'sin the Blackmore and their is no brittleness in the tone. They sound pretty similar. My guess is you would hear maybe a small difference in feel and sound playing one in person. Just a guess. I own the Blackmore but have never played the artist. The artist seems like the notes are a bit stiffer. The one thing is this amp does is cuts great in a band environment.

    For the love of god ride that midrange higher for the metal riffs. No one scoops that low anymore unless they have no idea how to dial in metal tones. I wanted to see that midrange at 8 & the treble dialed back a bit & I’m sure it would’ve sounded awesome.

      I have a 656 Morse. Ever hear Steve Morse or Marty Freidman play through theirs? I have a ton of amps but Engl is the best for leads. Perfect amount of compression dynamics, articulation & feel. You can take a super high gain channel and turn down your volume to get a surprisingly clean and still punchy tone. I just thought it was funny you said that as it is the total opposite for me. I don't really WANT to love ENGL I just have to because nothing I've ever played could beat it.

Damn, i even know people who say that marshalls suck for soloing, go figure...

Let’s face it, unless you have them modified or have your own tech, they’re shitty thin and harsh as fuck. Always a crap shoot. Mark Cameron when he had his shit together used to mod Marshall’s for me and they kicked ass. Glad you’re getting what you need out of the Engl but KSR truly kicks the shit out of them. Doesn’t matter if you’ve heard of them or not. Which is pretty strange by the way as they are a pretty big name in amplification.

      The history of modern guitar gear is littered with gear made for one purpose but versatility would lend it to be better/preferred for another. The EVH amps are famously used predominantly by high gain metal players. Plexi/JMPs were so god damn good they are still used from soft rock to punk to death metal today. Jazzmasters were made to play Jazz and got co-opted for surf and later grunge and shoegaze. The Ritchie Blackmore amp is (maybe secretly) known outside the “Ritchie Blackmore community” for being an awesome high gain head.
