I could never dial in a great sound with this amp until today. 16:51 through my cab with Vintage 30's sounds pretty freaking epic, thanks for convincing me to keep this amp!!
A local studio run by a friend is putting some ENGLs up for sale, including this one. Now I gotta try them all, especially this one because that tone is right up my alley. Like an extra pissed off Marshall.
This amp is so underatet but is defenetly one of the best amps ENGL ever made🤘I play the Artist Edition 100 Blackout (with built in noisegate) in combination with a Savage 120 MKII and thats combination sounds so damn cool. But the Artist Edition as a stand alone amplifier sounds awesome. It’s a Thrash-Metal-machine🤘
hi bro! can you please explain more about Artist 100w Blackout? how super tight and with low end he can be, how its good compare to Special Edition? also how its different to Blackmore?
I think that crunch channel sounds very nice and I doubt I would use OD channel for something else than sevenstring. Isn't the blackout version better?
You could always stick a Tumnus Deluxe in front, and add a bunch of Bass back in. I think the Bass and Mids are active on that pedal. Maybe not, but either way, it's really good at keeping the low end if you dial up the Bass control on the TD.
I had the Blackmore (what the Artist Edition is based off)... not my thing, it was absolutely overgained and could not be tamed. I have a video on my channel (not great, but it's there). Anyway, I have tried the Blackmore, the Screamer, the Savage MK1, and the Invader, and I can say with certainty that the most Marshall-y sounds come from the Savage MK1 Crunch 1. As I commented on a previous ENGL video, the Savage MK1 is a friggin great amp when matched with the right cab. Not sure if I would care to give the Blackmore another chance if I could get one and flip it for the same price.
I never bonded with the Savage 120 MK1 and sold it soon after I got it for the same reason you sold your Blackmore. LOL IMO the Arrtst and the Inferno are the most Marshally Engls. I love the Screamer MKII which I still have. It has a crushing bottom end. I also have the Artist 100, the Powerball II and Fireball 25 (I had the MK1 60 watt a while ago too). I wasn't crazy about the Blackmore either, but I can see the appeal.
@@Darth.Shredder I think the saving grace between the Savage and the Blackmore is that you have controllable gain levels in each stage, instead of fixed ones. But anyway, it's not everybody's tea, that's for sure! I look forward to trying the Artists or Inferno's one day.
@@Darth.Shredder I had the same issue with Savage 120 MK1 I got it thinking it was going to be a metal machine like I read all over forums but when I plugged in I was very disappointed. Sold it as quickly as it came in. A year later I read after a certain year the transformer was upgraded to a larger one. Found one, tried it and again sold it as quickly as it came in. Cut to a few months ago, one of my guitar friends had a Savage 120 MK1 for sale for a great price and I gave it one last chance and I made a wise choice. I will say the amp is very cab/speaker specific. I was using different cabs back then and today use an Engl Standard 4x12 and its a perfect match. I have the cab loaded with two Celestion Classic Lead 80's on top and two EVM12L's on the bottom and it roars. It allows the amp to shine and gives it that punch/power/girth that was missing before. I run it dry straight plug and play and its perfect. Love the rhythm tones, only thing that sucks is the effects loop isn't footswitch controllable so I can't kick in my solos with reverb/delay for that ambient sound but my rhythm tone is so good I'm able to let that go. Its thunderous as is but sometimes I'll add a MXR 10-band in the loop to take it further. Not necessary at all IMHO. My band plays thrash and death metal. Our recent full length album release "FROM OBSCURITY" was recorded with a mix of Engl Powerball 2 and Peavey XXX. Take a listen and it'll give you an idea of what tones we gravitate toward. Our next album 2024 will have the Savage 120 MK1 and maybe the Mesa Mark IV Rev. B and we'll be introducing 7 string guitars for a nice add on. Not sure on the Mark for recording tho since I just picked up the Artist Edition 100 Blackout a week ago and am loving its high gain tones.. lets see if the honeymoon phase wears off but I don't think it will. I've gone through close to or over 10 different Engl models and versions and have settled on the Powerball 2, Savage 120 MK1 and Artist Edition 100 as my all time favorite Engl tones. Yes, cab and speaker specific! 🎶 Cheers! 🍻
How close is the screamer to the blackmore and savage? Own a screamer, considering getting a Fireball, but there's some cheap blackmore floating around, wonder if they are any different from the screamer
@@MaGariShun IMO the Screamer is nothing like a Savage or Blackmore. If you like the Screamer you'll probably like the Fireball or Powerball over those.
you really can't go wrong with either. Fireball is rounder, girthier gain due to 6l6, but ironball is way tighter. I have a non se ironball and she's a keeper.
I'd wish so much you'd do a review of the classic ENGL SPECIAL EDITION amps (6L6 & EL34 models) There's not ONE review of those two amps on the internet Really! Look it up!
And again, the JCM 800 is the one with the third channel, the KSR does the JCM 6000 so much better. Now in 2023 they're writing JCM 800 on the first version of the JVM 410H? I don't know. Namastè.
I throw an MXR 6 Band and turn up the 100k a notch and it fixes the bottom. I might get shot for saying that but I don't care, lol. My Artist is the 100 with the Dybbuk Drive. KBYE! CHEERS!

Congrats on surpassing 30K, Kyle. So happy seeing that consistent hard work gaining ground. Keep it up, man!
This amp is a studio favorite. It's actually on a lot of metal albums over the years.
Congrats on 30k! And that is one absolutey sick sounding amp! 🤘
Thank you!
Great work, KB!! I have nothing to say, just wanted to comment to support your work...🤘
Congrats on 30K well done and well deserved keep up the awesome vids.
Sounds absolutely sick!

Engl Artist is a fantastic amp - I was intrigued and nearly tempted to buy it back then when I tested it. Stupid me that I did not do so.
Glad to see sweetwater has picked up the standard size Engl 4x12... am gunna add one to my collection.
Can't wait for the Fireball 100 video! I've waited for that one for over a year since you teased it on instagram. Haha
I think this is one of my favorites you’ve demoed!!
One of the best sounding Amps i´ve ever heard. Truly a overlooked Amp
bro, new Artist Blackout version has everything as old or its a bit better?

Seems like you have been really digging the Engl amps
How about the retro tube from Engl?
Wonder how the Artist Edition would do with KT77 in place of the El34
Kyle, please bring out a ENGL Special Edition E670!!

Actually an amp that I wanted since I was a teen, I’ve seen em or the original actually going for not too much recently, hopefully can snag one soon.
would love to see a demo of the screamer
Of all the Engls I've owned, the Screamer MKII is the one I've always held on to. It's such a great amp.
Any way you can upload these tones to ToneX? Great content by the way
That amp really screams metal… suggestion of bands that use that particular make ?
Dude there is some reflections on your guitar that looks so cool watch the video you will see it
Ok this just may be my favorite ENGL! Holy sheesh! I’m really impressed with it!
It's really good man
The 100 watts version has plenty of low end - I have the base control on about noon even with a booster which has a mid hump.
Dude! I would love to hear that head through the ENGL cab!!! I bet it would punch so hard on the bottom end 🙂
As much as I'm sick of V30's, especially the Chinese ones, the straight v30 Engl cabs do sound better than most with the same speakers.
I would like to see you do a Blackmore.
Huh, I can get out of mine Artist 50 even too much low end.. it’s a blackout version but I think they are similar
But does it do Brownface tones?
what string dampener is that at the head of the typhon?
Solar!
link? i cant find em. do they not sell them without a guitar purchase? @@belligerentamateur
The camera cuts in the start where its the wrong camera 😂
My Savage 120 MK1 with kt88s is an amazing death metal platform
The artist edition is basically a Blackmore amp. Has different tubes.
Reminds me a lot of the Orange Rockerverb!

Throw the ODD box on that bad boy for some extra bottom !
It’s a shame they produced it for such a short time. Really liked it.
Sweetwater sells the 50w and 100w versions right now.
Funny thing tho... only $100 price difference between them.

I have the the Engl rockmaster 20 Head.
