Note on oud wood: oud is a resin produced by the Indonesian Agarwood tree when it is infected by fungus. The resin is an immune response that permeates the wood and creates a complex leathery/sour/woody/salty/ambery-smelling substance used in traditional Arab perfumes and eastern incenses. Increasingly, oud is popping up in western-style fragrances.

Katie please come back to us!!!! You're actually super comforting to us!!! Love & miss you girl!!!!!!!!
Where is Katie? All her reviews are years old. No current fragrance reviews though. Sad. 😕😵💫
My favorite comfort scent is an oldie but still a goodie and that is, Obsession. Yes, just the original. I love it in the winter and it brings back memories of my teenage years because one of my friends mother always had it on and I thought that she was so glamourous! I get lost in that scent, it takes me into the woods on an evening right before the sunset, with snow falling and a small, white, Victorian house with Christmas decorations all around! Delicious and comfy!
@pascha120 So glad you found your rose garden! Thanks for letting me know how it worked out.
Nenuco..a clean fresh scent from Spain...instantly brings back memories of Sunday morning church...all the children smelled t same...mmm just lovely
I love your videos all the time. All the time. But. I really really enjoy how you're not as scripted in these recent videos. It's just so much more relaxing to listen to.
Katie thanks for reviewing Tea Rose. I was hanging on every word. And I love your necklace! I plan to look for it on pay day. Thanks again!
@Hhall2079 Did you ever find her butterfly necklace? I love it, too. It's beautiful.
Right now, my comfort scent is L'occitane Amber.
It is very warm and definitely the sweetest fragrence I own, it helps me transition seasons.
Ps- LOVE LOVE LOVE your videos!!!!
Katie, you are a star! I absolutely love the way you describe these scents and the way
they make you feel. Keep doing what you do - you have am amazing personality.
What a lovely video. To me "comfort scent" is the ultimate to get from a parfume. To soothe, to relax, to whip you away to another place you feel totally comfortable in.
So far only one scent has been able to "do it for me" and that is Aromatics Elixir by Clinique. I know some love to hate it...it is one of these fragrances but I never get tired of it, it never bores me, I never get headache from it, it just wraps me up into a nirvanesque cocoon where nothing can reach me. LOVE it.
Love, love, love Back to Black! My sister and mom both said I smelled like Cherry Pie when I wore it. Because they said that, I assumed it was cherry. But once I found it was raspberry, now I smell raspberry! I love raspberries. It's such a smooth and sensual fragrance. I actually found an eBay seller who bought the 4 x .25oz travel refills, and was selling them individually for around $25. It's the perfect size for me! Oh and as for me and comfort scents, I love Ambre Narguile. So delicious.
wow thank you so much for all your great discriptions of the perfumes. Tea Rose is my favorite ever! The one you showed by perfumers workshop. My mother used to wear it and then is started wearing it. i would walk into a rose and in a good way people would know that i was there just by the scent..." i smell roses" everyone would say. thank you so much you're amazing!
@GreenDani18 I should have talked about this in the vid, cuz it's a good question. Oud resin is produced by the Indonesian Agarwood tree when it is infected by fungus. The resin is an immune response that permeates the wood and creates a complex leathery/sour/woody/salty/ambery-smelling substance used in traditional Arab perfumes and eastern incenses. Increasingly, oud is popping up in western-style fragrances.
@Missrosebud29 Thanks thanks THANKS for your lovely compliment. And yes - amber is so cozy and comforting!
@Eyelinerandcomputers Smell is such a tender and evocative way to keep your mother with you always. Thanks for sharing this.
I love that story about your Homage Attar scent blotters. I'm lusting over Homage Attar too. I love all your comfort scents!
My comfort scent is Burts Bees Peppermint & Rosemary Body Bar. It's so invigorating!
My comfort scents are: 1) the very un-posh Warm Vanilla Sugar by Bath and Body works. It's such a relaxing scent that sometimes I wear it to bed. 2) Maja by Myrurgia. The rose in this reminds me of my grandmother's bathroom when I was a child, with her scented rose-shaped soaps. 3) Ceaser's Woman by Ceaser's Palace in Las Vegas. I was gifted this perfume when I was about 13. It's a strong scent for a teen, but I just loved it. The scent brings me back to simpler times.
@Sevipants19 Yeah, they still sell that! And if you look closely, the design isn't leopard spots, it's a bunch of little powder puffs. I love that they've never changed the packaging.
love your outfit, it's very spring-y!
I find vanillic, ambery and coconut scents very comforting. I drop lavender and chammomile essential oils on my pillow case on the nights when I can't sleep, so I suppose those are comfort scents as well.
I was recently drawn to Jo Malone's Orange Blossom !!!
You must have sent that wave length!
Also, I got my samples in. Thanks for the Amouage Epic Man tip! Ohhh!! You are so right!
I also went for the Amouage Jubilation XXV, Amouage Gold Man, Farmacia Ss. Annunziata Patchouli Indonesiano, Les Nereides-Patchouli Antique, and Montale Patchouli Leaves while I was ordering samples. ( I was on a Patch roll!)
I'll have to think about the "comfort"...
Maybe Wild Fig and Cassis,
Patchouli Pure, ???
@IdaBirkemose So glad you liked it! Have a good weekend yourself.
Vanilla Fields. My Mum used to wear it when I was a little girl, and vanilla has represented comfort and femininity to me ever since.
Thank you Katie, my mom is Private Collection. When ever I wear and or smell it I get a warm fuzzy filling inside like a warm double arm hug. It smells nice on me but on my mother it is as if she has always smelled like that. I really love how smells can bring up memories.
@sakuraness That is such a perceptive observation! In fact, I would specify that rather than "public broadcasting", the look of the other videos is a cross between cable access (is that what you meant?) & a 5th-generation VHS of an 80s Mexican soap opera. Something about the combination of the camera, art direction, cheesy graphics, & degeneration of the video when loaded on to YT created a "look", which I agree does enhance the content.
Thanks for your comment - it's given me food for thought.
HI to all fume heads! My comfort scent were:
1.Victoria secret Sweat Temptation- It reminds me of the first time I came here in America, its spring and lovely:bird chirping.
2. Calvin Klein Rose Blush - It reminds me of the day my Granny died and i cant go to the funeral so i went to the dept store and buy something to remember , the first thing i saw was Ck rose blush.
3 Swiss Army it reminds me of my military years. so nostalgic and comforting to smell them ,,, Thanks Katie!
I love seeing a new K.P. fragrance review. I was having a bad day but that blotter story made me laugh. Katie you are outrageous!
I've used Tea Rose for many years. I get compliments all the time.
I don't know if I can blame charm, or simply being annoyingly pesky.
Hi Katie! Vanillas are my favorite comfort scents. My faves are Indult Tihota (vanilla and musk), Profumum Vanitas (vanilla, orange blossom, and myrrh), and Farmacia SS. Annunziata dal 1561 Vaniglia del Madagascar (vanilla, lemon, and florals). In fact, I finally splurged and bought myself a full bottle of Tihota this week from luckyscent!!! Can't wait for it to get here!
My gosh;;
Everytime i see your videos,
I cant help but to smile.
Your such a happy personn(:
Recently bought a bottle of Homage Attar
Homage Attar smells good the moment its on. No "burning off" alcohol. Best rose combination with other elements, works very well with body heat. Wonderfully blended ingredients. I need about 2 dips before the scent is nicely applied so I can smell it all the time.
hmm Montale ouds seems to yell at me but the White less so. Nice review Katie!
My total comfort scent is Jalaine Amber. OMG, it is divine. Wear it to bed and awaken to the most wonderful warm scent!!
I love your stalking Back to Black story. I stalk Penhalignon's the same way. But they have the same three people working there at Saks, so it's tough to pull off the repetitive samples of one scent. Especially since I am that person who chats with them for an hour and they remember me.
@ScentedAir Welcome aboard, and thanks for your suggestions!
Hi Katie! My favorite comfort scents at the moment are: 24 Faubourg by Hermès and Opium by YSL :) you're funny and very inspiring, PS. love your accent :)
@TheMoultonj Oh gosh - poor you!! It's good that you were able to reclaim orange as a nice smell.
My favourite comforting scent is Lush's Honey I washed the kids solid perfume. In the pot it's kind of sharp, but on the skin it is wonderful. Warm, comforting, honey-toffee-sweet and orange-fresh! I love it!
Back to Black...seems interesting, since you have so many samples I had to look it up. $225 is a bit much...I need to find place near me with samples. Here are the notes:
Back to Black Notes
Bergamot, raspberry, blue chamomile, cardamom, coriander, saffron, cedarwood, vanilla, almond, vetiver, cistus labdanum, patchouli, oakmoss.
Great video. My comfort scents are Amouage Gold, Carolina Hererra Flore,Chanel no.5 , Tom Ford Jasmine Musk and Creed Jasmin Imperatrice Eugenie. I have so many fragrances but these make me feel so warm and comfy.
@yescandles So glad to hear that Epic Man is hitting the leathery spot.
I think that Montale Patchouli Leaves is pretty comforting.
Katie, I ran out to sniff Daphne today and actually wound up buying it, LOL! Love it! I also talked to the wonderful Barney's SAs about your reviews on youtube, it was so fun to talk with others that love scent as much as I do :)
@KnightsofEmerald Rain is a great smell. Demeter have 2 rain smells, Rain and Thunderstorm. They are billed as "pick me up sprays", and don't last longer than 30 minutes, but they really do smell like the names on the bottles.
@Alovesphotos Most regular dept stores are loaded up on samples when a new perfume first comes out, because the company supplies them with the promotional vials.
Otherwise, your best bets in the US are Sephora and Nordstrom, who will very nicely custom-make samples of whatever you want. (I'm not sure which stores will do this in Canada.)
Also, some websites like LuckyScent will send samples of niche perfumes for a small fee.
My favorite comfort scent (at the moment) is Power by Kenzo. I know exactly what you mean by "magical animal tummy smell" and I LOVE it!
My favorite comfort scents:
*For Kings and Queens Shower Gel in Nefertiti Honey
*Barefoot Venus Love Apple Bubbling Bath
*Principessa Beauty Products
*Lush - Honey I Washed the Kids Soap
*Lush - Honey Bee Bath Bomb
*Lush - You Snap the Whip Body Butter (black current scented)
*Coco Chanel Mademoiselle Eau de Toilette
*Bulgari Omnia Amethyste
*B.Kamins Bio-Maple Maple Body Lotion with honey and soy
*Nag Champa Incense
*Ultima II - Head Over Heels
*Body Shop Satsuma or Cranberry Products
Katie, someday you should treat yourself to the By Kilian Back to Black travel atomizer. I'm sure you've seen it -- a beautiful, heavy, jet black, ornate atomizer that comes with 4 .25oz bottles of Back to Black. I think it's around $135. but thats easier to rationalize than their big satin-lined lacquer boxes. Back to Black is my new obsession and I can't wait till the cooler the weather. Go for it!
I feel pretty and uplifted whenever I wear my Fleurs de Jour body lotion (from La Bouquetiere). It's warm yet bright in a gentle way. There's a woodsy element in the background that's a little mysterious too. Origins' Gloom Away never fails to perk me up. The bottle says grapefruit but it smells more like a warm orange to me. One spritz & the happy switch in my brain flicks on. Sometimes I combine the two. I'm a new subbie & I'm smitten with the way you articulate your fragrance experiences.
@swabidoo2 The butterfly necklace is from Foley + Corinna. It's made from a couple of different old necklaces. All my necklaces are from vintage stores, or cheapy things from Forever 21, or stuff I designed/found and had put together by jewelers.
I'm actually wearing a lipgloss in this vid: Bobbi Brown Petal. The colors in the vid are not accurate to life, because they kind of morph depending on people's individual computers. I looked up Chris and Tell, and like you say, it's hot all right! So hot that it seems to be sold out. I read that MAC Full Stop Red is similar.
But I'm a huge fan of coral hued lip colors. Just got one I love called Satin, by Chanel Coco Rouge. Chanel Rouge Allure Remarkable is great, too.
Lol "..in various nooks and crannies" I've slept with perfume samples under my pillow, but I can't say i've had that experience exactly!haha! I Love, love your videos! You make me smile and I just want to smell it all!
@Appalachianitis Correction on the CBIHP scent, it's just called "Burning Leaves". Here's what I like for pine perfumes:
Comme des Garçons Zagorsk
Annick Goutal Encens Flamboyant
They're both incense-based. For straight ahead evergreen forest, check out both the CB I Hate Perfume and Demeter websites.
Pino Silvestre is another famous pine perfume, worn by dudes at the Vatican, apparently.
Oh and as for favorite comfort scents:
Flower by Kenzo
Regan by BPAL
O by BPAL (check out O, it has honey)
Bellodgia by Caron (it's my mother's signature scent)
Shalimar (my mother's signature scent when I was a child)
Regan feels like a big coy hug. When I was taking exams in college, I would wear it.
I think my personal favorite comfort scents are Gucci Pour Homme II and L'Instant de Guerlain EDP. The Gucci reminds me so much of spring! It's so warm and inviting, light and airy, sweet and subtle. Definitely one of my favs! The Guerlain is so deep and luxurious; the gorgeous chocolate note is more than likely to blame. I haven't tried the original EDT yet.. but I'd like to! I plan on wearing it soon as a my homage to Beatrice Piquet. R.I.P. Beatrice :(
Maybe it's linked to the fact that I lost my mom less than a year ago, but my comfort scents right now are either linked to her or to childhood. The herbal scent of her Nuxe moisturizer. J'Adore was her perfume. And then sweet almonds, and herbal scents like the one you smell on a Summer evening after it's been raining.
Actually I found my all-year round comfort scent through one of your reviews, Katie: It's Comptoir Sud Pacifique Vanille Abricot. A little more than a year ago I went to Paris and bought it, remembering your video, and since then the perfume and me are inseparable! So thank you Katie for bringing me to my comfort scent!
@LuluLiefdeHaat The emotional association you have with the perfume is always the thing that determines how comforting it is, I find.
Awesome suggestions Katie :) I definitely need to check out the Tea Rose- sounds very pretty. Thanks for posting.
I agree. you have a expressive thought process. I love Ayala Moriel frags and one of my favorite comfort scents is her "Film Noir" very deep and warm and comforting
"Have you seen your mother lately?....No?, She's in here!."
love it!
You know what I like about your collections? That you don't find the regular stuff in it. Like, no Lolita Lempicka, Muglier's Angel, Flower by Kenzo, Dior, Elizabeth Arden,... You've just gotta have all those posh smells that cost ridiculous money and are hard to find! But I think I might refer to your reviews when choosing my next perfume!
@Peregrine77 It makes such a difference when the SA's are as passionate about perfume as you are. In my experience, Barneys have about the best dept store fume jockeys anywhere. Oh, and Liberty's of London, too.
wow, I really want to try " By Kilian Back to Black" now !
Sounds so nice!
My comfort scent is my perfume, Miracle edp. I've been using it since it came out. Reminds me of sunny summer days and cool breezy nights by the sea.
My mom smells like D&G(the one with the red cap???) That's my second comfort scent. I haven't seen my mom in three months and since i'm going home tomorrow, i can't wait :)
Thanks for these lovely reviews!
Not sure if I'll get around to doing a review in time for you, but I did sniff it the other day and it seems really pretty. I've not given it a full wearing, but if you've tested it and love it, go for it!
@Appalachianitis Ha-ha, there is indeed a campfire/barbeque scent! It's by CB I Hate Perfume, and it's called Burning Leaves 1966. It smells like burnt leaves on a cold autumn night with a weenie roast off in the distance somewhere.
Listened to this on my 15 min drive home from work and wished it lasted longer for once lol. I've recently started wearing Escentric Molecules molecule 1 combined with Philosophy fresh cream as my daily work scent, but really I rather only wear it to bed after a warm shower. That creamy woody skin scent makes me think of mother's milk lol love it
Kat Von D Sinner and Victoria Secret Warm and Cozy are my two favorite scents that I love on a blah day.
@NickijoeCanuck I like your unbiased "perfume casting" technique.
Offhand, I can't make a connection between those CK perfumes - I'd have to smell them side by side to figure something out. Glad you're having fun discovering your "smell personality".
@makeupcreator That's a nice compliment!
At night: Pond's Cold Cream for removing eye makeup, Cetaphil for general cleansing. Trish McEvoy Beauty Booster Serum (a recent treat) followed either by Fresh Elixir Ancienne (a face oil) or whatever sample of a night creme I have lying around.
For day: No. 7 Protect & Perfect Intense Beauty Serum and Kiehl's Abyssine Cream SPF 23. Or if I'm going to be outside a lot, La Roche-Posay Anthelios SPF 60.
@19myself91 Isn't that interesting how you can associate a fragrance with someone, even if they didn't actually wear it?
Thanks for the suggestions, I'll have to get some samples to try them out. My comfort scents are Serge Lutens Chergui and L'Artisan Safran Troublant. I have lived on samples and small bottles of Chergui, this week I got my own 50 ml bottle!!
Very cool video!
I love the Burts Bees also! All natural!
@KatiePuckrikSmells Awesome, thanks for the tip and the reply!!! Have a great weekend!
For some strange reason, fire and ice is my comfort perfume. Brings me back to high school when everyone liked me and actually called me back :)
Love this vid! What a great idea. To me, all my perfumes are pure comfort, in one form or another...But I have a few that I particularly love. My warm blankets are: Tocca Touch...That would have to be my absolute first! Then, Kiehls Original Musk...It just feels like home to me. We go waaaaay back, too! My third would be Safran Troublant. Saffron is an anti-depressant, did ya know? As opposed to lavender, which makes me feel extremely unsettled!
Those are all so cozy! I was just sniffing the Imperial Opoponax the other day.
i really like the smell of night-blooming jasmine that grows outside my house. during the spring and summer it's a really powerful fragrance. it's like a green tea scent but sweeter and richer.
i also like ralph lauren romance, because it was my first fragrance five years ago when i was twelve haha
@KatiePuckrikSmells Tea Rose is perfection. It's important that you mention dew, as the first thing that comes to mind after spritzing it is wetness. You also get the stem! It's almost green. Perfect for rainy days and marvelous over bathwater.
Very '70s, though, I must say. However, it shows its age without aging you. Very Marcia Brady-goes-to-college. Makes me think of a pretty, popular girl with long, stick-straight hair. Maybe even Gloria Steinem - in her prime.
I used to wear Ghost Myst as a teenager. I wear L'Eau d'Issey because it is easier to find and its a bit of a more grownup version of Ghost Myst. Its just a bit less sweet smelling but very similar.
Awee I love your great personality. Speaking of baths, my hubby put in a jacuzzi in our bathroom and I love throwing bath bombs in there or some perfume and just enjoying relaxing in my jacuzzi for about half hour. I can’t do more than that. I never could.
@Juliduck I shall look into that one. I think amber scents are just about the most nuzzly, comforting sniffs around.
@KatiePuckrikSmells Thanks for the suggestions! L'Artisan Safran Troublant sounds heavenly, I just ordered a sample from Luckyscent. Can't wait to try it! I'm going to check out the other two as well. Thanks again Katie!
Happy Smelling! ;)
There is something about Daphne I wasn't even sure I liked it but then I could not say I didn't.And then the scent lingered and I would think about Daphne and your right my mother is in that bottle.I must get that one day.Now I want to try Amouage you mentioned and Back to Black they sound amazing.I also beg for samples glad to know I am not the only one.LOL
Body Fantasies' sweet sunrise fantasy. I associate my three favorite fandoms with the scent because it smells like a blend of three other perfumes I associate with said fandoms. So it's perfect and when I'm stressed about school or grades or learning to drive all I have to do is smell it and ill remember the things I love ^^
@tranquilbluesky The guys who choose Polo probably don't make a point of noticing scents in their life, whether cologne or cooking or nature smells. They're most likely conforming to a social expectation that guys should smell good, and they just buy the first thing that they've heard of. Once you start to really pay attention to smells, you realize that it's more interesting to wear something that expresses something about yourself.
Absolutely fine, although never more than one spritz, because the alcohol in perfume will be drying to hair.
oh my comfort scent is Datura Blanche by Keiko Mecheri. Its warm, soft, not too heavy and make me calm and happy!
@votejamie08 Ohhhhh, what crummy news! I'm very sorry to hear of your tough break. Please take all the comfort you can find in your smell surroundings.
Chantilly Houbigant gives me the clean, refreshed feeling, smells like fine French soap in an old school powder room. Sensual Amber by Bath & Body Works is my go-to cozy Fall time fragrance! So yummy, and the Amber is so rich and soothing.
Kaite - you've totally got me lemming Amouage Homage Attar! *Must buy sample very soon* :op
My favorite all time comfort scents would be Grabazzi by Gendrame, Aqua by Herrera, and Aramis Life! Those are yummy smells to my nose! :)
@sonyawinder Well, I believe that pretty much all fragrances are aphrodisiacs. When you wear a smell that makes you feel good and uplifts your spirit, you give off an inviting vibe, I think.
@makeupcreator Daphne is a little busy and flashy, "Hollywood Exotica", but it makes me smile.
Ahhh...lately for comfort I've been turning to Ombre Rose. It was my very first fragrance as a young girl.....I swiped it from my mother so many times she just gave up and bought another one. When I ran across it online some months ago I snagged a 1oz bottle for old times. It rbings back so many memories! Gosh.......I'm now intrigued with the higher concentrations. I may spring for one within the next year or two.
Cont...
Your choices are rly interesting. I'm intrigued by the arabic style scents. I've only smelled by dad's various attars. I'd love to have a more feminine version!
I'm back again with the Theo Fennell! You MUST smell this! Rose, saffron, insense!
Hi Katie, great review as usual. My fav. comfort scent at the moment is Halle by Halle Berry It reminds me of being wrapped up in a cozy blanket and taking a snooze in my mothers arms, very nostalgic scent Thanks :)
I was thinking about this and Amarige is
another scent that takes me back. My mother
wore it and when she died when I was 15 my
dad gave me the rest of her bottle to wear.
It reminds me of her every time I smell it.
But I don't like to wear it for that reason too.
My Mum always wore Shalimar so that reminds me of her, I love the Warm Vanilla Scent from Bath and Bodyworks and the strawberry Lush scent in Yummy Yummy Yummy and Strawberry Feels Forever, and my favourite current comfort perfumes are the original Juicy Couture and SJPs Covet.
@quietfi123 Amouage's attars are more delicate and sheer than classic Arab attars, and therefore I think qualify as more feminine. Also, some of the western oud-based perfumes do a nice job of being very wearable. By Kilian have some gorgeous ones, and Laura Mercier Minuit Enchanté is a very pretty gourmand one.
