As a kid I loved JA because the level design was more streamlined. I had numerous issues with Jedi Outcast levels to the point I had to use cheats to progress. I appreciated that Luke had more screentime and the immersion was impeccable. Years later I tried multiplayer and Siege mode quickly became my favorite. Then I remember I installed Movie Battles II and just kept replaying this game. Timeless classic.
Just downloaded Movie Battles 2 recently and it seems amazing. Never had a chance to play online on these games when it came out so really cool to try some of the stuff now
As a kid I played this game so much more than Outcast (mainly because I couldn't figure out most of the puzzles). Looking back, outcast had a FAR better story, but Academy is still insanely fun to play. Great video!
I have a vivid memory of the Mutant Rancor level, where me and my friend would spend hours on it trying out different exploits and tactics because other kids on the playground swore that there was a secret level if you got eaten by the Rancor after doing specific things like getting your shield up and readying a grenade.
Revisiting these games has reminded me why Kyle Katarn was considered the Chuck Norris of the Star Wars universe! While Dark Forces II remains my favorite in the series, one cant deny Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy are what defined the series overall.
Love this game. I still return to it time to time. Always a Kel Dor with an orange lightsaber because of Jedi Power Battles and Plo Koon. That game made him my favorite Jedi, so I was ecstatic when I saw I could play as a Kel Dor. Very rarely do I do a different saber color lol
I want Kyle to return with current graphics and same voice actor. He is still among my top 5 favorite Jedi. But the voice actor fits Kyle almost perfectly imo.
Wow, what a treat from an algorithm. I watch, or rather listen to a lot of these lengthsy retrospectives while doing chores or commuting, so I have points of comparison, and yours is really well made. I love how much effort you put into the music, exchanging John Williams pieces from JA to the ones from KOTOR almost seamlessly. Tracks are always appropriate for the situation, feels like it is the game's original music. Speaking of, for the next project: why not do Knights of the old Republic? You seem to love the series.
Thanks! I really appreciate it. A few cutscenes had music that couldn't be removed so had to look through the files to finds the proper sound effect to recreate the scenes from scratch. It was little bit of a pain so happy to hear it turned out well. Got to be honest I'm frightened to do KOTOR. It was one of favorite games as a kid and to do it any justice i feel like i would need to make a 8 hour video or more which given how little time I have to work on the channel would take near a 6 months to do haha still Its definitely in the cards and might be something I work on beside some other videos that won't take as long to do

Here’s something I never understood about the very first level facing the Howlers - if Jaden can saber throw… why CAN’T he use telekinesis? Part of saber throw is using Force pull to PULL THE SABER BACK

Really well made video, you deserve more subs. This is one of my favorite games, story is obviously ass, young jedi apprentice single handedly destroying a sith cult(yeah you had some help from Kyle but most of the time you are alone), jedi grand master and jedi master are always conveniently doing something else. It shows that they had only a year to finish this game. For example in KOTOR **spoilers**, you defeat a much stronger enemy than the one in Academy but it's with help of your comrades and you are able to do so because you are Revan. After finishing Outlaws, I had to come back to this gem, even though story is bad in Academy, it's still miles better than Outlaws. But the gameplay though, I could play Academy 100 times in a row before touching Outlaws again, it's so sad to see how a game made within a year 20+ years ago is much better than today's game that took 4 years to make and that high much higher budget. Even though these older Star Wars games are not perfect, it shows that people who worked on them loved and understood Star Wars, they were gamers and nerds. My favorites are Academy, Outcast, Bounty Hunter, Republic Commando, KOTOR and Battlefront 2. I really wish that more people would try them out, despite their graphics. They can also always be found dirt cheap somewhere. Thanks for putting your time into making this video, really appreciate it. Also I prefer Academy over Outcast just because I played it like crazy when I was a wee lad. Outcast is a better game for sure, level design, characters, story, everything is better(except for combat) but nothing can compare to lvl 3 force lightning in 3 missions. Also since I replayed it recently I decided to also level mind tricks for the first time in my 50+ playthroughs and it's super broken. Those "they fly now" troopers are useless, big shock troopers are also useless, on max mind tricks you can hit they as much as you like and they don't retaliate. It's super useful for high difficulties.

Never played bounty hunter though so i need to eventually give it a try.

Also in older games like KOTOR or even in Academy(as barebones as it is) you can make a choice between light and dark side. KOTOR is more complex obviously because the whole game is based on it but it's part of the story and it affects every aspect of the gameplay. In Outlaws, you are an outlaw and game is forcing you to make only good choices, it's illusion of open world game where choices matter. Game is not prepared for you to explore and try things out.
The "artoo" is just how they canonically spell his nickname and I hate it, it's the same in the movie subtitles and comics, plus they call C3P0 "threepio". It is so dumb.
So I could be the only one, but I'd like to see you cover Star Wars Squadrons. Its an incredible dog fighting game in its own right, with well thought out mechanics, and I thought it had a great campaign. And the VR experience is just awesome, essentially if you're a fan of the spaceships. It really changed my perspective on Imperial tie fighters and their pilots.
I actually really enjoyed it when it came out. Thought the story was so so but the VR experience was a blast. Might have to boot it up a again and see if there's a way i can make a video like that work.
Artoo is R2 spelled phonetically. And it's been actually used in a lot of different books and video games. When someone's talking about him and they only use the first two of his name.
