  • This #fishing trip is about catching bait for myself using shrimp pump and my own efforts. Learning how to do things that are new to me. We get some bait and make it to the Newport Jetty to rock fish for what ever will bite.

I think you’re right Pete! Following the tide out is probably the biggest key to success

I guess you have to have a shellfish permit to catch bait shrimp with a tool.

Tip, next time try 2 hooks and gather some of the little rock crabs , poke your hook right through their shell and out the bottom! We used to catch "dinner plate" sized "Pile Perch" in that bay using the crabs. Then a sandshrimp on the other hook will get you other perch and greenling.
    Just to clarify,
    They're not baby Dungenus crabs.
    Good luck! Enjoy your videos!
    Doug.

Sounds like a good plan! More hooks and bait should help in general. Thanks for watching my adventures!

That gl2 would make a great bobber and jig rod or spinning rod for sizes 3 and 4. Brian check with the local tackle shop for advice were to go and make it easier to catch them. Nice looking shrimp. Good luck fishing.

The coolant temperature sensor was the culprit.

Thought those bites might have been crab till you caught the small ones. Tight lines.

I dig my own shrimp all the time. Stay away from the black sand, try to find watery sand if that makes sense. Those shrimp guns also take a certain technic, you want to almost pull the gun out of the sand at the same time you pull up the top part. Also where’s the springer videos??

Hats off to anyone that gets their own bait

Barview can be good too. Have caught lings, bass, and perch there. Also eels.

@AutomagicAdventures supposedly they are good eating. I haven't tried them, my buddy did. Guess their good to eat. Catch them with a stick, line ,hook with a piece of shrimp. Him and another gully caught a bunch of them. They are in the rocks along the jetty walls.

John, unfortunately sometimes tide makes a big difference. You’ve got to be at the right place and at the right time! Yes, Chris at the bait shop is a great dude. He is very helpful.

Does that Chris Loomis come with smoked steelhead? Are there any commericial oyster operations around? Sand Shrimp love to eat baby oysters. Were you close to the river channel? You ended up with a good haul because of your determination and persistence! Might be the wrong time of tide for jetty fishing. Dueling with Ole Limber Lips? He wins every time! Enjoyed the video!

Smoked steelhead sounds good to put out maybe at my first members bash/potluck. I’ll have to remember to bring it.

Hey I’m kinda new to your channel. Started watching last fall. I love your honesty and tenacity! I’m 60 and have only been fishing a short time. I live in Albany so I like the fact you are in my area (I think). Would love to win that Chris Lumis spinning rod. I was pumping sand shrimp last spring at Siletz Bay and caught tons of babies. Not one keeper. Hang in there AUTOMAGIC. Just curious. What’s your first name?
