- A foot of snow on the ground? No problem for the new all wheel drive version of Chrysler's 2021 Pacifica. Automotive journalist Scott Newell takes the Pacifica out for a test drive on snowy streets and shows why this minivan may be cooler than a lot of SUVs.

I’ve had 3 Grand Caravans over the last 30 years. I’m getting ready to get another new vehicle. I was a little turned off by the styling of the front on the first gen. but I really like the look on this 2021. Was really considering the Sienna but they ruined that with a hybrid only, so I’m back to the Pacifica. Really like the awd option.
how reliable are the Chryslers? everyone claims they don't compare to the reliability of a Sienna, is this true?
@@pedro.guevara , I work on cars for a living and my experience is that there is nothing wrong with Chrysler products or any other product for that matter as long as you are willing to maintain them. Toyota is a good product no doubt. They have produced engines that were prone to having problems just like any other make. Kia/Hyundai are good as well.
The reason I shy away from the new Sienna is that it’s only available as a hybrid. That to me signifies that servicing it becomes a dealer only scenario. I like simplicity in a vehicle, technology that I understand mainly because I like to service them myself.
I suggest you try a number of vehicles before you buy and if one peaks your interest do some research on it. If no recurring problems show up then you’re quite safe in purchasing it.
@@pedro.guevara the transmissions are junk. our transmission went out in our 2015 around 120,000 miles. We got a rebuilt jasper transmission guaranteed for 3 years. engine has been good however
BEST minivan (modified SUV) for 2020, 2021 and beyond until another company beats their Pinnacle (which might be difficult)
I just hate how low these are, the bottom scrapes up so much when I go camping and such, trading it in for a Tahoe
I think you got the wrong vehicle, it’s supposed to be that low so you could have better control on curve or relative high speed moves, Good luck with the purchase of your new car.

Brilliant vehicle. Possibly the greatest all around vehicle (with AWD) ever engineered. I wish my wife could get over the "mini-van stigma" (I think its functionally, aesthetically and rationally beautiful).
I have a 2004 Toyota Sienna AWD Limited and with snow tires its Amazing in the snow, this will probably be my Toyota replacement as Toyota no longer makes a V6 AWD =( .......
You would be stupid for switching from Toyota to fca....pay the extra money for a Toyota
@@brandoguy3338 unless you bought the Toyota from Japan, you would get similar reliability from both. Of course there’s different part on both but with regular maintenance you can get any non-hybrid vehicle over 200k with ease.
Winter tires are a must if you are in a snowy climate. Even on a front wheel drive Pacifica, they are game changers. Much better stopping distances, much more traction because they are made of a compound that stays flexible at lower temperatures.
If they do a hellcat version. I'm in. It's gotta keep the AWD but use a rear wheel drive biased system instead of a front wheel. That way you can send all the power to the rear if you want. Lol.

If this had winter tires it would be unstoppable in any amount of snow
I’ve driven an awd Pacifica with winter tires in very snowy conditions and it does very well. The only limitation is ground clearance.
No. If you want that get a Jeep Wrangler, 4Runner, hummer, etc.
Toyota AWD van is awesome as well.. the low CG on these make them a tank in city/hwy snow driving.
Toyota makes the ugliest vehicles on the planet.

winter tires plus common sense much more important than awd.
It's good to have all three.
I have a 2001 limited awd town and country added 76mm turbo. The first engine had 251000 miles 12-14psi killed that. New one has zero miles hellcat 525 fuel pump holley goes in when the temps warm. Looking forward to racing the new one. Oh made like 350-450hp a stable 500hp is my goal and pebble beach car show.
I don’t like that at all. I would rather be the one that chooses when I want it on or off, not the car deciding for me. Sad that it doesn’t have a button to choose yourself.

However, remember people, AWD does not help you stop and actually increases stopping distances due to the increased weight so make sure to fit winter tires!
This is good advice. Winter tires make a huge difference, and when paired with all wheel drive it gives you the best combination for winter driving.
I was lucky driving all winter in Vermont with my florida sandals no issues but to be honest way to risky next time I will definitely apply your advice since I didn't even know.

I have one. The only problem I have no storage for flat fixer unit and vacuum hose extension when all the seats are stored in place. My Pacifica is my dog carrier. I use as everyday transportation. I don’t like not having safety equipment storage. There is room on the rear right (passenger side) cargo area wall to place if they would put the flat fix repair devise. Match the left side (vacuum cleaner ) cavity.
Playing with the console to zoom in on your kids is fine but using a phone isn't. Both are dangerous but make it make sense! You would be equally as distracted looking at the inner console camera pointed at the kids as you would be making a call....

I want this car.. i got the Chrysler 200c and i love it but i got a baby now.. so if Chrysler doesn't do an SUV this will be my next car but i want the Pinnacle trim..

Who needs awd, heck my motorhome is 15,000 lbs rear wheel drive up in western Canada and never got stuck... I got weight, great tires, and I'm a professional driver, "trucker" and the most important thing, I got common sense!!!

@@truckertim2958 which tires did yours come with? Mine came with Michelin Premier and it’s very difficult to see where on the tire it says self seal. But it’s there on mine.

@@truckertim2958 Yokohama makes self seal tires. Chrysler online info says 2021 AWD Pacificas are supposed to come shipped with self seal tires so you might check with them.
Winter studded tires would be beautiful on the road so going to get one of these van

I have a 17 Pacifica. Putting Nokian snow tires on my fwd van and that will be my awd van.
Installing winter tires on all vehicles greatly enhances their capability on snowy, icy surfaces.

I will admit it. The 2021/22 Pacifica AWD and Limited models are out of my price budget. I'm waiting for the Windsor plant to start pumping out the Chrysler Voyager LX for the US. Canada version is the Grandcaravan I think. It will sorta have the old 2017-19 Pacifica front and rear look.
And it will not come with alot of the bells and whistles. Adding the winter package option is all I would need personally. So basically I been following this vehicle like a stocker

The vehicle certainly has advantages over the competition. The question to me is do I want a minivan over a similar-size SUV like the Durango or Honda Pilot. Sorry but this was a sales pitch not a review.
Providing information for people who want to know more about this vehicle. You posed the right question about the choice between minivan and SUV. Maybe this review helped you and others answer it.
It's more about need. What does the SUV do that you need? Then find out, can the pacifica/minivan do that too?
We traded in a 2015 nissan pathfinder for a 2018 pacifica hybrid limited (and later traded the 2018 in for a 2020 pacifica hybrid limited). The only thing we lost was AWD in the 2020, but we gained a TON more.
Pacifica Hybrid has better handling, WAY more space inside including way more comfortable seats, it's faster, and we went from about 20mpg to now getting 30mpg in hybrid (for long distances), but we typically see 60 to 70mpg because we do mostly EV driving. Still no AWD for the hybrid. Other advantage is the price. A fully loaded 2020 Pacifica Hybrid Limited is going to be about $35k to $37k after federal tax credit.
I was able to attain 25mpgs on my way back from Philly with 8 passengers and a Thule hitch mount bike rack with 4 bikes going 70-75mph in my 2019 Honda Odyssey Elite. Can the Pacifica do that?

I've got the 2020 Pacifica Hybrid Limited (all packages including "S" appearance package), after federal tax credit lands around $35k to $37k brand new. It gets about 30mpg when driving in hybrid mode (i.e. for long distances), although we manage closer to 60mpg to 70mpg thanks to most of our driving in EV/battery only.
Although the hybrid only has 7 seats.
its a nice unit but still being a chrysler with a dash of fiat worries me in terms of reliability
