Just a suggestion, on top of both filters you could plant a peppermint. Not only will it yield a steady supply of mint, but it will also make water significantly cleaner because of the mint being an antiseptic

Excellent pond! All I want to say is that your pump should be on the exit side pulling the water. Pushing like you are doing is hard on the pump, and less efficient

Thank you...about water pump - it's gravity connection - it means that water flows to the pump just thanks to gravity and pump push it further to the filtration tanks...pump is out of the water under water level - must be - this is how gravity connection works. As i m thinking of creating a swimming pond in a DIY method , i would like to also ask what do you mean that the swimming pond has to be BIG. What do you mean by this? Has it have to do only with the space that one has to have in order to swimm freely or there are also other components to be taken under consideration? And can this swimming pond also accommodate some goldfish at the same time or their droppings may fertilize the water in it, so not to be capable to swimm? And what if the goldfish are in this case accommodated in some other small pond that is connected with our hypothetical swimming natural pond due to a creation of a stream that will connect the water of two ponds together? How is the pond protected from any forming algae? Do you use any chemical treatments that are not harmful for human beens? And i also have one last question if you would be kind enough to clear out for me. How often do you clear out this pool from dirt and staff and is there any need of changing any ammount of the ponds water in them, every fortnight or so, as one has to do when dealing with aquariums?

I absolutely love your swimming pond!! I myself have been researching swimming ponds because I and getting ready to build my own. My question is....I have seen ponds that have no liners and it stated the reason they didn't use a liner is because they have clay for soil. My soil is pure clay and my water table is extremely high on my property. Do you think I would be ok not using a liner being that my soil is pure clay? Thanks and hope to hear from you soon.
Thanks a looot for your praise:) Means a lot to me:)...To what you asked for...First of all...I have no experience with no liner solution so i dont know if i could give you a proper advice...But ill try anyway...:) If you got really pure and clay soil and your table water is high it would be good to give a shot...Nature is nature and i Think it would be very nice to have something like that with no liner - and of course...you would save some money:) On the other hand am not sure if you could ever have crystal clear water, cause with nature base you got always some kind of sediments and when you jump in and swim...you will definetely stir up the water and it will be a bit murky...I mean its not bad thing...but if you want crystal clear...maybe liner is better solution....But if you really would like to have it with no liner...maybe i would make a gravel base and stone walls...it could help you a lot to keep the sediments down under the gravel and stones...and you could have your no liner pond with very clear water...:) I wish you best luck with your project...i believe its gonna be something amazing:) Regards...J.P.

Thank you so much for the all the information JP. Your swimming pond is definitely my favorite and I am going to use yours as a guide. I did not know that the deeper the swimming hole the better quality water you get.....see, I've learned something new already!!! I'm thinking I'm going to go 3 to 4 meters deep in the middle and go 1 meter deep and 1.5 meters wide around the perimeter of the pond for rocks & plants, etc.. I am going to put a liner under the rocks around the perimeter of the pond and where ever your feet would be in contact with the ground so like you said I won't get murky water. Approximately how long did it take for you to build your swimming pond up to the point where you could swim in it? Also, do you have to clean it like a chemical pool and what do you have to do to keep it clean? Does the bio filtration and plants do everything for you? If I dig a hole and it starts filling up with ground water.....if the water is murky do you use that water for your pond and the bio filtration system cleans it or do you have to put your own water in it afterwards?
Thanks again...Yeah definetely...as deeper and bigger your pond is It will have better water quality...Its because it will never be too warm and as we know from nature...Water has ability to clean herself also...You can see it for example in many flooded quarries...dams...natural ponds...And if you will help her by your biofiltration system...water is gonna be perfect...and remember...the bigger filtration the better...Its because you got larger filtration area...surface i would say...there lives bacteria and microorganisms who are able to clean the water....In my pond is taking care of water quality my fitration system...but of course...sometimes you got on the water level some leaves etc...You have to rid of it because when it sink...its starts to rot...and its not good...for that i got normal strainer....second solution and better...is skimmer...which catch all those itself...But i like to do it whit strainer...:) Sometimes have some cilia on the shorelines...but really its not bad...and its because in shallows is water warm...but one time is a pond...you cannot look at it like on a pool...How you saw in my video...that is how my pond look like in Summer time...I believe its really clean...of course...its not a pool...but it looks better and you dont smell by chlorine and other chemicals...I Personaly clean my fitration one time per month...and thanks to the drain valve its really easy... I build it myself....I mean all...including digging..by shovel:)...And am really bussy at work so just weekends:) It took me two summers...But if you got bagr and more people I think that if you start in spring...you can have it done by July...maybe earlier...But then of course it take some time to things settle down...plants etc...Dont worry if water is quite murky at the beggining...its normal...One or two weeks and it will be clean...Pond is alive...its nature...and its changing all the time...thats what I love about it...It also take some time when biofiltration start to works...I mean not that tank which should catch sediments...it works of course immediately...but that tank with shower sponges...thanks to it is water clean...because there lives bacteria and this is the reason why is water crystal clear...and it take two or three weeks when it start to work...So...remember...never clean it by chemical...you would kill them...always by the water..... I just completed my first dunking pond it's not quite a swimming pond yet I can do one stroke and get from one side to the other it's a little more than waist deep but that's purely due to the fact that it's very Rocky and by Rocky I mean boulders in my area working on making it a lot larger though looking to go about 50x 20 optimum depth for me would be 12 ft but I doubt I'll reach it this year I need a new jackhammer
Such inspiring DIY work! Looks so refreshing and clean...I hate the itchy smelly chemicals in regular swimming pools. I'm moving soon to a rural home which already has a 1-acre pond; hoping to swim there, but the seller warned me against that. Said it's full of huge snapping turtles which keep eating his ducklings. Seems like Americans are less into natural swimming ponds than Europeans - I can't find anything useful online about fishing-to-swimming pond conversion. I'd be most grateful for any ideas!
Honestly I don't have any experiences with this kind of problem so any advice from me would be a bit doubtful. But despite of that I will try to help you. Swimming pond should have sufficient size, depth and some shallows with a lot of plants. On top of that good bio filtration system. Everything should be in harmony. Nature is powerful and swimming pond is magical because if it works good, it looks good, water is clean and smell good and you don't have to do anything special like in case of classic pool. About those undesirable creatures - in our country is it very favorable. We don't have poissenous snakes and similar so this is really not a problem. But it's true that nature water attracts all living creatures so I don't really know how to avoid it:) I know about some ducks who are swimming there sometimes...a lot of birds...frogs ect. Also some snakes...but it's just grass snake so it's harmless...I don't know exact conditions in your country.... Regards J.P.
How long ago did you build your pond? What type of liner or not did you use? Have you seen David Pagan Butler's videos? They offer a solution so you don't need an external filter, it uses an air lift pump to pull the water through the planting beds. Just a thought, if your pump needs maintenance or it's costing you lots to run. You could easily retro fit his idea into your current pond.
I use zeolith stones in my filter and though the pond is for ducks, the water coming from the filter doesn't smell at all. Once a month I pour EM bacteria into the pond. In 4 years I never had to change the water although, because of the ducks, there are no plants in it.
Thanks...I am not from tropical weather country, but its true that this summer was really hot. Temperature still about 30+ degrees and water was clean all the time. But its not that common in my country. So in your case i rather do one more tank and put also some UV light...A dont forget. Do it as much deep as you can...first of all, its very good for water quality - because its never too warm and second - you can jump in:) Regards...

Congratulations on such a lovely pond! I have two questions (well I hope you'll see, but who knows?) one is about insects - do you have any problem with mosquitoes and how do you handle this? The other question, is not to be indelicate but, what about pee? I mean even the best intentioned kids make mistakes to say nothing of babies. Do you use chlorine or other chemicals in your pond or is it all natural. How dangerous is it if a child or vandal relieves himself? Sorry for the rude sounding question, I am just very curious.
Hi, I will answer you, but I think that is not gonna help you. I have no problems with mosquitos so I dont have to handle it - because there is simply no problems. And I have no kids so don't have problems with that either. You cannot use chlorine in natural pond - because It would kill everything...everything. And I believe that chlorine is much worse for your body than mite of pee in hundred cubic metres pond:) Nature is Nature if its not oil or some chemic s.it...she will handle it:) Regards...

Can I put ad a third tank that the pond water goes through first, with Duckweed and with Filter Feeding Fresh Water Claims and Mussels etc in the filtration container the flows into the other two filtration tanks that you designed? Would that be helpful in cleaning the water even better?

I see she's already asked all the right questions and others have as well. 😊 I do agree with you that the more you learn the more you'll find everyone has their own method which will vary from person to person, so you just have to get the basics in order and then experiment yourself. I live in California, Los Angeles to be exact, so we don't get much cold weather. I hope this kind of pond is perfect for our climate. I'm a novice pond builder and yours seems to have come out perfectly, so you're certainly someone that can share plenty of knowledge from your experience with this. @@peczcsaba2567 Yes, because of very cold winters I always turn it down and remove the pump and put it home. During the spring after last freezing days i put it back and start it again. Also pond needs to be clean from all those rotten plants and leafs a refill some water. Regards:)

No, I have no skimmer...I only use the net for leafs ect..I have pump which is able to move 200 litres per minute. And i dont really understand the third of your question...:)...Do you mean gravel in first tank?
+MultiJounas From what I've read, regeneration zone is a pipe with holes in it sitting under the gravel along the sides of the pond. The pipe is attached to the pump which circulates water through the gravel- kinda a big bio filter. Since you don't have this system it is your biofilters doing the job? Very impressive. Great video and very inspiring. Thank you for sharing you great ideas with us.
It is a little misunderstanding...I got pipe which draw water from the bottom - it is hidden under the gravel, but it is just because of aesthetics. Function of bio filtration is really just in those two tanks...with gravel in first and shower sponges in second...and it is doing this job very well...of course with some help from plants as well...Regards:)

How often do you replace the shower sponge/mesh bag filter? Seems like a lot of plastic waste? Wonder if there’s a more organic way to filter the second barrel- sand?
Me again.....I was wondering what is the maintenance for your pond is? Do you have to clean it regularly like a chemical pool? Do you have to test the water quality regularly? Do you have to winterize it (I'm from the North with freezing winters and tons of snow)? Do you only have the 1 bio filtration system and nothing else other than plants? While researching swimming ponds, I saw swimming ponds and they had bubbles? Your bio filtration set up is amazing.....you are a complete genius & you should write a book on your pond!!

I was researching and watching videos and so on...Everyone says something different...One says that you are not going to need anything than plants...second says that you need a huge system with UV lights...next that you cannot have gravel base because there could be a lot of sediments....its a bit confusing...I would say...read and watch all you can...and then decide by yourself...its exactly what I did...I personaly got just this system...which you can see in video and Thats it...it works for me...But you know...depends on many things...where your pond will be...under the trees or not? Depends on temperature in Summer time...and if it is sunny place...how many plants you will have...or if you wanna have fish...But one thing is sure...make it as deep as you can...It is very good for water quality...I think that 2 metres is minimum...Water will never be too warm...And remember...more water=better quality...Pond is about water with no chemics...biofitration system works in the same way like filtration in aquarium...thanks to bacteria and micro organisms...Regards...J.P.

My question is what is the size of the pipes you used to connect the pump with the first tank and the one that connects both tanks together. It seems the first flexible pipe is not as wide as the other. Is it 50 and 75? Or 75 and 110? Greetings from Chile!
I am not 100 percent sure, but it should be - "Elodea canadensis". It grows wildly in one flooded quarry near to my home so i got it from there. They grow and root very well just in gravel. Regards:)

Hi there, The pump is under those water tanks - must be out of water - because its swimming pond and you cannot have any electric devices in the water for your safety. And also it must be under water level - it is gravity system. My pond is very simple so I have no retention walls...it is just hole in the ground and liner on it:) Walls are just under 65 degrees not more...Regards...and you could try to read other comments I already answered a lot questions so it could help you as well

I used "Aquamax eco classic 14500" www.oase-livingwater.com/cz_CZ/water-garden/products/fml/filter-pumps-watercourse-pumps-filter-pumps-watercourse-pumps-aquamax-eco-classic.10606.html And about the solar system...I believe you can use it, but it depends how much you can pay...and remember that sun is shining just 12 hours and not every day....sometimes is cloudy etc...but your pump must be working all the time...So...solution is to buy something very powerful plus some power stack to keep the energy for cloudy days...This is something What I personally thinking about for my next project...

I got a lot of frogs in my pond and its not a bad thing. In my pond lives newts as well and many others. Grass snake also which is not poisonous and he catches these frogs...Your pond should be full of life...that means your water is clean a proper for the life and thus for swimming.

Bags of oyster shells (crushed and whole) work really well as a bio filtration media and don't leach anything or put micro-plastics into the water. They neutralize the water as well which always helps for clarity.

@@MultiJounas I'm sure you can order them in, they are used a lot in agriculture, especially for raising chickens. High end seafood restaurants go through a lot of Oysters, maybe see where they get them, and ask if you can get the waste shells, or have a bag of oyster shells brought in with the net shipment. We have some oyster farms near us, and they have mountains of them on the beach, so they re always looking at ways to get rid of them.
Oh my god your pool is amazing! I really want a pool but it's too expensive for my family and I thought this would be the best solution! Problem is, I really don't like how most of them look but when I saw yours I instantly fell in love! I would soooooo love if you did step by step instructions. Heck, I would even pay! The pond now is like on my previous videos, but because of really hot summer without the rain i need to refill a little bit one time in a month i would say...Evaporation in those tropical days is quite big. To do something different? Not really...I am satisfied. If i would do a new pond - OK i would do some improvements - its always like this, everytime you have something to do a bit better but its just small things and details. In terms of this concept I have no bigger complaints and it works for me. One thing that comes to my mind is - Next time i would do a bit bigger shallow for water plants - from my observation i realize that they are really really helps with the cilia. They consume all nutrients and cilia has nothing to grow from. From that reason i got some water plants on the bottom as well and now have no problem. Regards...
Dont exactly know what you mean with "list of materials for the pump"...Its easy...when you buy the pump you just need to buy suply hose as well and then just connect it. Hope it will help. And about those plants. I have a lot species and dont know the names of all of them but remember one rule. Well, I am from Czech...you are right. Now, I will try to answer your question as good as possible. I did not build any pond in US but I suppose that it could be pretty much the same. I bought it from this company - www.fatrafol.cz/en/products/pond-liners/ Importat think is you should search directly the distributor not reseller of those products because you will save a lot of money. For example - I wanted to buy this liner of certain size and i found it on the internet on many websites about garden and ponds ect. and it would cost me about 1500 USD...They all were just resselers - so i search it up the name of company which made those liners and bought it directly from them for half of price... That is my advice. But its almost five years since i build this one so it could change a bit...Good Luck with your project. :)
You just said that. Especially thanks to bacteria which lives on surface of shower sponges...Its the same system like in aquarium...just in bigger version. That part with stones is mainly for separate bigger dirt but of course bacteria lives here as well. Someone also uses UV light for destroy cilia...but its not necessary for each pond. And remember...usually it takes week or two till its starts to work properly...
Yes of course, like everything else aproximately 1 time per month...but thanks to the drain valve you just clean it with stream of water from top...and all that dirt goes away from bottom...very easy...

Excellent pond! All I want to say is that your pump should be on the exit side pulling the water. Pushing like you are doing is hard on the pump, and less efficient

Thank you...about water pump - it's gravity connection - it means that water flows to the pump just thanks to gravity and pump push it further to the filtration tanks...pump is out of the water under water level - must be - this is how gravity connection works. As i m thinking of creating a swimming pond in a DIY method , i would like to also ask what do you mean that the swimming pond has to be BIG. What do you mean by this?
Has it have to do only with the space that one has to have in order to swimm freely or there are also other components to be taken under consideration?
And can this swimming pond also accommodate some goldfish at the same time or their droppings may fertilize the water in it, so not to be capable to swimm?
And what if the goldfish are in this case accommodated in some other small pond that is connected with our hypothetical swimming natural pond due to a creation of a stream that will connect the water of two ponds together?
How is the pond protected from any forming algae? Do you use any chemical treatments that are not harmful for human beens?
And i also have one last question if you would be kind enough to clear out for me.
How often do you clear out this pool from dirt and staff and is there any need of changing any ammount of the ponds water in them, every fortnight or so, as one has to do when dealing with aquariums?

I absolutely love your swimming pond!! I myself have been researching swimming ponds because I and getting ready to build my own. My question is....I have seen ponds that have no liners and it stated the reason they didn't use a liner is because they have clay for soil. My soil is pure clay and my water table is extremely high on my property. Do you think I would be ok not using a liner being that my soil is pure clay? Thanks and hope to hear from you soon.
Thanks a looot for your praise:) Means a lot to me:)...To what you asked for...First of all...I have no experience with no liner solution so i dont know if i could give you a proper advice...But ill try anyway...:) If you got really pure and clay soil and your table water is high it would be good to give a shot...Nature is nature and i Think it would be very nice to have something like that with no liner - and of course...you would save some money:) On the other hand am not sure if you could ever have crystal clear water, cause with nature base you got always some kind of sediments and when you jump in and swim...you will definetely stir up the water and it will be a bit murky...I mean its not bad thing...but if you want crystal clear...maybe liner is better solution....But if you really would like to have it with no liner...maybe i would make a gravel base and stone walls...it could help you a lot to keep the sediments down under the gravel and stones...and you could have your no liner pond with very clear water...:) I wish you best luck with your project...i believe its gonna be something amazing:)

I would dig a small test hole and see if it holds water.. If it does, keep expanding and see how the water level holds/fluctuates
Personal opinion: the water flowing from the filtration system can be used to power the water slide:) swimming pond + water slider = tons of fun

Thank you so much for the all the information JP. Your swimming pond is definitely my favorite and I am going to use yours as a guide. I did not know that the deeper the swimming hole the better quality water you get.....see, I've learned something new already!!! I'm thinking I'm going to go 3 to 4 meters deep in the middle and go 1 meter deep and 1.5 meters wide around the perimeter of the pond for rocks & plants, etc.. I am going to put a liner under the rocks around the perimeter of the pond and where ever your feet would be in contact with the ground so like you said I won't get murky water. Approximately how long did it take for you to build your swimming pond up to the point where you could swim in it? Also, do you have to clean it like a chemical pool and what do you have to do to keep it clean? Does the bio filtration and plants do everything for you? If I dig a hole and it starts filling up with ground water.....if the water is murky do you use that water for your pond and the bio filtration system cleans it or do you have to put your own water in it afterwards?
Thanks again...Yeah definetely...as deeper and bigger your pond is It will have better water quality...Its because it will never be too warm and as we know from nature...Water has ability to clean herself also...You can see it for example in many flooded quarries...dams...natural ponds...And if you will help her by your biofiltration system...water is gonna be perfect...and remember...the bigger filtration the better...Its because you got larger filtration area...surface i would say...there lives bacteria and microorganisms who are able to clean the water....In my pond is taking care of water quality my fitration system...but of course...sometimes you got on the water level some leaves etc...You have to rid of it because when it sink...its starts to rot...and its not good...for that i got normal strainer....second solution and better...is skimmer...which catch all those itself...But i like to do it whit strainer...:) Sometimes have some cilia on the shorelines...but really its not bad...and its because in shallows is water warm...but one time is a pond...you cannot look at it like on a pool...How you saw in my video...that is how my pond look like in Summer time...I believe its really clean...of course...its not a pool...but it looks better and you dont smell by chlorine and other chemicals...I Personaly clean my fitration one time per month...and thanks to the drain valve its really easy...
I build it myself....I mean all...including digging..by shovel:)...And am really bussy at work so just weekends:) It took me two summers...But if you got bagr and more people I think that if you start in spring...you can have it done by July...maybe earlier...But then of course it take some time to things settle down...plants etc...Dont worry if water is quite murky at the beggining...its normal...One or two weeks and it will be clean...Pond is alive...its nature...and its changing all the time...thats what I love about it...It also take some time when biofiltration start to works...I mean not that tank which should catch sediments...it works of course immediately...but that tank with shower sponges...thanks to it is water clean...because there lives bacteria and this is the reason why is water crystal clear...and it take two or three weeks when it start to work...So...remember...never clean it by chemical...you would kill them...always by the water.....

I just completed my first dunking pond it's not quite a swimming pond yet I can do one stroke and get from one side to the other it's a little more than waist deep but that's purely due to the fact that it's very Rocky and by Rocky I mean boulders in my area working on making it a lot larger though looking to go about 50x 20 optimum depth for me would be 12 ft but I doubt I'll reach it this year I need a new jackhammer
Such inspiring DIY work! Looks so refreshing and clean...I hate the itchy smelly chemicals in regular swimming pools. I'm moving soon to a rural home which already has a 1-acre pond; hoping to swim there, but the seller warned me against that. Said it's full of huge snapping turtles which keep eating his ducklings. Seems like Americans are less into natural swimming ponds than Europeans - I can't find anything useful online about fishing-to-swimming pond conversion. I'd be most grateful for any ideas!
Honestly I don't have any experiences with this kind of problem so any advice from me would be a bit doubtful. But despite of that I will try to help you. Swimming pond should have sufficient size, depth and some shallows with a lot of plants. On top of that good bio filtration system. Everything should be in harmony. Nature is powerful and swimming pond is magical because if it works good, it looks good, water is clean and smell good and you don't have to do anything special like in case of classic pool. About those undesirable creatures - in our country is it very favorable. We don't have poissenous snakes and similar so this is really not a problem. But it's true that nature water attracts all living creatures so I don't really know how to avoid it:) I know about some ducks who are swimming there sometimes...a lot of birds...frogs ect. Also some snakes...but it's just grass snake so it's harmless...I don't know exact conditions in your country....

How long ago did you build your pond? What type of liner or not did you use?
Have you seen David Pagan Butler's videos? They offer a solution so you don't need an external filter, it uses an air lift pump to pull the water through the planting beds. Just a thought, if your pump needs maintenance or it's costing you lots to run. You could easily retro fit his idea into your current pond.
7 years ago...black liner FATRA (czech company)...I have seen his videos...I simply prefer my solution.

I use zeolith stones in my filter and though the pond is for ducks, the water coming from the filter doesn't smell at all. Once a month I pour EM bacteria into the pond. In 4 years I never had to change the water although, because of the ducks, there are no plants in it.

Thanks...I am not from tropical weather country, but its true that this summer was really hot. Temperature still about 30+ degrees and water was clean all the time. But its not that common in my country. So in your case i rather do one more tank and put also some UV light...A dont forget. Do it as much deep as you can...first of all, its very good for water quality - because its never too warm and second - you can jump in:) Regards...

Congratulations on such a lovely pond! I have two questions (well I hope you'll see, but who knows?) one is about insects - do you have any problem with mosquitoes and how do you handle this? The other question, is not to be indelicate but, what about pee? I mean even the best intentioned kids make mistakes to say nothing of babies. Do you use chlorine or other chemicals in your pond or is it all natural. How dangerous is it if a child or vandal relieves himself? Sorry for the rude sounding question, I am just very curious.

I will answer you, but I think that is not gonna help you. I have no problems with mosquitos so I dont have to handle it - because there is simply no problems. And I have no kids so don't have problems with that either. You cannot use chlorine in natural pond - because It would kill everything...everything. And I believe that chlorine is much worse for your body than mite of pee in hundred cubic metres pond:) Nature is Nature if its not oil or some chemic s.it...she will handle it:)

Thank you. It took two summers. I had some help from my family members. But main work was on me. It took quite a while because I worked just during summer weekends and not always. And I had to dig 100 cubic metres just by hands...:)

You can but you need to pay for some external source...We had no source as well, but we built a well...so we have the source now...
Can I put ad a third tank that the pond water goes through first, with Duckweed and with Filter Feeding Fresh Water Claims and Mussels etc in the filtration container the flows into the other two filtration tanks that you designed?
Would that be helpful in cleaning the water even better?

I see she's already asked all the right questions and others have as well. 😊 I do agree with you that the more you learn the more you'll find everyone has their own method which will vary from person to person, so you just have to get the basics in order and then experiment yourself. I live in California, Los Angeles to be exact, so we don't get much cold weather. I hope this kind of pond is perfect for our climate. I'm a novice pond builder and yours seems to have come out perfectly, so you're certainly someone that can share plenty of knowledge from your experience with this. I will keep all of your comments and suggestions in mind as I begin my build.

Is it not very loud? Does it disturb the peacefulness of the whole place? That's my biggest concern about the whole thing. The noise.
the sound of the pump is weaker than the sound of running water...so answer is - No, its not disturbing at all...:)

Hi again. I would like to ask you one more thing if i may. What do you do with your pump in the winter and how do you prepare your pond for the winter? Do you turn ithe pump off? Does this cause any problems for the water?

@@peczcsaba2567 Yes, because of very cold winters I always turn it down and remove the pump and put it home. During the spring after last freezing days i put it back and start it again. Also pond needs to be clean from all those rotten plants and leafs a refill some water.

No, I have no skimmer...I only use the net for leafs ect..I have pump which is able to move 200 litres per minute. And i dont really understand the third of your question...:)...Do you mean gravel in first tank?
+MultiJounas From what I've read, regeneration zone is a pipe with holes in it sitting under the gravel along the sides of the pond. The pipe is attached to the pump which circulates water through the gravel- kinda a big bio filter. Since you don't have this system it is your biofilters doing the job? Very impressive. Great video and very inspiring. Thank you for sharing you great ideas with us.
It is a little misunderstanding...I got pipe which draw water from the bottom - it is hidden under the gravel, but it is just because of aesthetics. Function of bio filtration is really just in those two tanks...with gravel in first and shower sponges in second...and it is doing this job very well...of course with some help from plants as well...Regards:)

Me again.....I was wondering what is the maintenance for your pond is? Do you have to clean it regularly like a chemical pool? Do you have to test the water quality regularly? Do you have to winterize it (I'm from the North with freezing winters and tons of snow)? Do you only have the 1 bio filtration system and nothing else other than plants? I was researching and watching videos and so on...Everyone says something different...One says that you are not going to need anything than plants...second says that you need a huge system with UV lights...next that you cannot have gravel base because there could be a lot of sediments....its a bit confusing...I would say...read and watch all you can...and then decide by yourself...its exactly what I did...I personaly got just this system...which you can see in video and Thats it...it works for me...But you know...depends on many things...where your pond will be...under the trees or not? Depends on temperature in Summer time...and if it is sunny place...how many plants you will have...or if you wanna have fish...But one thing is sure...make it as deep as you can...It is very good for water quality...I think that 2 metres is minimum...Water will never be too warm...And remember...more water=better quality...Pond is about water with no chemics...biofitration system works in the same way like filtration in aquarium...thanks to bacteria and micro organisms...Regards...J.P.

Jonas, I'm making a biofiltration system like the one you did. My question is what is the size of the pipes you used to connect the pump with the first tank and the one that connects both tanks together. It seems the first flexible pipe is not as wide as the other. Is it 50 and 75? Or 75 and 110? Greetings from Chile!
Depends how strong is your pump but exit hose must be 3-4x bigger than suply hose to avoid overflow...
What is the name of the submerged plants at 1:33, I would like some for my pond. Do they root in the substrate ?
I am not 100 percent sure, but it should be - "Elodea canadensis". It grows wildly in one flooded quarry near to my home so i got it from there. They grow and root very well just in gravel.

Hi there, The pump is under those water tanks - must be out of water - because its swimming pond and you cannot have any electric devices in the water for your safety. And also it must be under water level - it is gravity system. My pond is very simple so I have no retention walls...it is just hole in the ground and liner on it:) Walls are just under 65 degrees not more...Regards...and you could try to read other comments I already answered a lot questions so it could help you as well

And about the solar system...I believe you can use it, but it depends how much you can pay...and remember that sun is shining just 12 hours and not every day....sometimes is cloudy etc...but your pump must be working all the time...So...solution is to buy something very powerful plus some power stack to keep the energy for cloudy days...This is something What I personally thinking about for my next project...

I got a lot of frogs in my pond and its not a bad thing. In my pond lives newts as well and many others. Grass snake also which is not poisonous and he catches these frogs...Your pond should be full of life...that means your water is clean a proper for the life and thus for swimming.

Hi I am already digging a natural pool in my country..pls tell me what pump did you use for your biofilter ? tnx everything else was clear...but instead of using a liner I will use blocks and cement to hold the water and will add loads of gravel inside the hole then put water n bioplants on the side ;;will I need to buy an air compressor or a pump ?

Bags of oyster shells (crushed and whole) work really well as a bio filtration media and don't leach anything or put micro-plastics into the water. They neutralize the water as well which always helps for clarity.
Sounds perfect and really natural...which is always the Best Way. Thanks a lot for your recommendation. Now I just need to go to the ocean or see where I can collect them. Or do you know where to even buy it in Central Europe?
@@MultiJounas I'm sure you can order them in, they are used a lot in agriculture, especially for raising chickens. High end seafood restaurants go through a lot of Oysters, maybe see where they get them, and ask if you can get the waste shells, or have a bag of oyster shells brought in with the net shipment. We have some oyster farms near us, and they have mountains of them on the beach, so they re always looking at ways to get rid of them.

Oh my god your pool is amazing! I really want a pool but it's too expensive for my family and I thought this would be the best solution! Problem is, I really don't like how most of them look but when I saw yours I instantly fell in love! I would soooooo love if you did step by step instructions. Heck, I would even pay! Honestly your pool is so amazing and it would be a dream come true to replicate it.

The pond now is like on my previous videos, but because of really hot summer without the rain i need to refill a little bit one time in a month i would say...Evaporation in those tropical days is quite big. To do something different? Not really...I am satisfied. If i would do a new pond - OK i would do some improvements - its always like this, everytime you have something to do a bit better but its just small things and details. In terms of this concept I have no bigger complaints and it works for me. One thing that comes to my mind is - Next time i would do a bit bigger shallow for water plants - from my observation i realize that they are really really helps with the cilia. They consume all nutrients and cilia has nothing to grow from. From that reason i got some water plants on the bottom as well and now have no problem.

Dont exactly know what you mean with "list of materials for the pump"...Its easy...when you buy the pump you just need to buy suply hose as well and then just connect it. Pump must be out of water and suply hose with sunction sieve on the bottom.

Hope it will help. And about those plants. I have a lot species and dont know the names of all of them but remember one rule. You should plant those plants which are able to grow wildly in you country. A lot of them i took from wild meres and ponds and it is quarantee that will grow in your pond as well.
If i understand, you are from Czech, and you order liner from... where? I think about pool like yours but good liner is really expensive, it cost more in eastern EU than in US :D
Well, I am from Czech...you are right. Now, I will try to answer your question as good as possible. I did not build any pond in US but I suppose that it could be pretty much the same. I bought it from this company - www.fatrafol.cz/en/products/pond-liners/
Importat think is you should search directly the distributor not reseller of those products because you will save a lot of money. For example - I wanted to buy this liner of certain size and i found it on the internet on many websites about garden and ponds ect. and it would cost me about 1500 USD...They all were just resselers - so i search it up the name of company which made those liners and bought it directly from them for half of price...
That is my advice. But its almost five years since i build this one so it could change a bit...Good Luck with your project. :)

How does the biological filter work? Just by giving surface area for bacteria to grow on?
You just said that. Especially thanks to bacteria which lives on surface of shower sponges...Its the same system like in aquarium...just in bigger version. That part with stones is mainly for separate bigger dirt but of course bacteria lives here as well. Someone also uses UV light for destroy cilia...but its not necessary for each pond. And remember...usually it takes week or two till its starts to work properly...
And does the gravel filter that separates de dirt out need to be cleaned?
Yes of course, like everything else aproximately 1 time per month...but thanks to the drain valve you just clean it with stream of water from top...and all that dirt goes away from bottom...very easy...
