  • A quick walk through this natural swim pond project that was installed in 2019. Clear water, lush plants, waterside patio spaces...a real backyard oasis.

    Its gorgeous. The only thing I see that is counter-productive is the returns are in the filtration zones. The will have the effect of pushing debris to the centre of the pool instead of drawing it into those zones. If you draw water out of those zones you draw debris into the filtration area, and the plants and microbes in those areas will decompose it naturally. Still its absolutely beautiful.

    Beautiful way to go!!! Hockey in winter? How do you deal with the chill factor? How do the pipes do? Great job!!

    • @QuietNatureLtdAyr

      Yes, the pipes and filters have to be winterized but then it could be skated on.

    I absolutely love it. But why not cover the plastic bottom with something? A flagstone or even gravel bottom would be so much nicer and it wouldn't that much more work to complete the pool. Is there some technical reason not to cover the water barrier?

      We find the bare liner bottom much easier to clean. Rock seems to always build up with sediment and pond sludge and becomes very hard to clean.

    Hi
    Regarding cleaning of the system.
    There could be a idea to lead the bottom of the regen zone to a point or points where simple cleanout can be conducted. Simmilar to koiponds or bogfilters.
    If the system clogs up, it could cause a surpluss of nutrients, with difficulty cleaning it out.
    Very nice and accessible pond.

    Beautiful. Question. How many algae blooms did this pool have before running clear long term?

    • @QuietNatureLtdAyr

      We fought algae for the first couple of seasons, primarily in the planted zone. There is still algae, but that's just how it works.

    looks beautiful! I live in India. and I'm thinking of building one such here. trying to understand what materials go into the structure. Are the walls made of concrete and what about the flooring?

      Do a search for “David Pagan Butler natural swimming pool” and you will see how to build one of these

    Should have Cut those 4 trees closest to the house and built it there for better views.

    @3:45 he shows an image on construction, why would you use wood? Wouldn't stone work better, and that way you wouldn't have to worry about replacing it later?

    • @QuietNatureLtdAyr

      That type of wood (larch) is extremely rot-resistant. Underwater, it will last for many decades.

    nice what about mosquitoes they much of a problem

    • @QuietNatureLtdAyr

      No so much. There tends to be many predators in the water that eat the mosquito larvae.
