Your soul is MINE! Shang Tsung is back, and luckily, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa is also back to give him his likeness and voice, which is just the best casting decision in the game. Once I do one for Jax, and a bonus for Jacqui and MAYBE Skarlet (I have one done, but it's extremely one sided) Kombat Time will take a bit of break. So more variety will eventually be on it's way.
Exactly...no disrespect to the guy that voice shang tsung in mk9 but Cary-hiroyuki tagawa is legendary and You soul is mine! No one can say it better then him.
1. Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa for a calm and the most intimating Shang Tsung ever 2. Andrew Kishino for a arrogant Shang Tsung and one of the best MK games back in those days
Credit where credit is due, Andrew Kishino did a terrific job in MK9; but Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa is simply too amazing for this to even be a question of who does this best. All that sinister menace behind a thin veneer of charm and politeness? Perfect
All the other voices of Shang Tsung are cheesy and overacted, but Cary-Hiroyuki's performance is perfect. He's calm, quiet, and legitimately intimidating, and he sounds real.
Not that anyone would believe me, but I was the voice of Shang Tsung in MK:SM. Weird thing is, I did only half of it. There was another person at Midway who did some of the lines. I was also the voice of Shujinko, Shang Tsung and Onaga in MK: Deception. We weren't outside talent. Voiceover stuff was primarily done from within. It was always fun when Steve Beran or another sound person would stick their head in your office and say, "Hey! Do you have a couple minutes to do some screams?". Good times.
I think everyone has already established that Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa is the definitive Shang Tsung, but even though he's absolutely amazing in the movie and in MK11, his performance in the story of MK11 Aftermath further solidifies it. You can just tell he's relishing in every line of dialogue Shang Tsung has and is just having the time of his life with the role. He not only is so perfect for Shang Tsung, but his performance is just so passionate: you can tell he absolutely loves playing him.
🐲For an old man like him and not having made a physical appearance in story mode of Mortal Kombat 11, Cary Hiroyuki Tagawa can arguably be the best Shang Tsung's Voice Actor
Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa wins as best live action Shang-Tsung, and best Shang-Tsung voice. Andrew and Jim are the only ones to come close in terms of voice, and no one is better in live action.
Tagawa just has that natural evil demeanor looming from behind him. As if he can command the apocalypse at will. It's so good, and his acting in the film was spot on!
Of course it's Tagawa. He does the voice effortlessly. The confidence and charisma leads to a flawless victory. Jim Cummings has a great voice for it too
Truly awesome how many movie tributes/references they put in the game, like Kano being full-on Aussie and of course Shang Tsung being played by (and having the likeness of) his actor from over 25 years ago.
Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa always has a good Shang Tsung voice and when I heard he was going to be DLC for MK11 I was so hyped about it and when he said “you’re soul is mine” I was so excited to get him!!!!😆😆😆
He's an icon, and that first MK movie is still a cult classic. So glad they'll reboot it soon enough. Hopefully with more of the feel that MK Legacy has.
Watching these voice comparison videos reminds me of just how many things the Mortal Kombat movie got right; $500 sunglasses, Aussie Kano, and of course Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa.
My favourite voice for Shang Tsung is Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, not only has he played him several times, live action and as a voice over, but he also has my favourite voice in general and gives Shang Tsung A bit of charm and charisma. However when he needs too he can be threatening and fierce.
I hope they keep Cary from now on he's literally perfection at playing Shang Tsung kinda like Steve Blum with Sub Zero and Richard Epcar with Raiden i hope they keep them
Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa is my favorite because he was Shang stung in the Mortal Kombat movies and I think it is cool how they made Shang stungs character in the game so similar to how he looks now!
Jim Cummings did a great job, but actually, if you watched the Sonic Sat AM show back in the 90s, that's the exact same voice the used for Dr. Robotnik. Awesome, and absolutely creepy, but yeah, same voice.
GenerationWest I know but he will have ALOT more dialogue once he comes to the roster as DLC (even though he shouldn’t be DLC but instead part of the base roster).
Van Dagylon which means if they did another Mortal Kombat movie it would make perfect sense to use him cause Tsung appears in both a youthful and elderly form.
Tagawa. I was very happy they used his likeness for MK11. Doesnt that face and voice just make you want to love to hate him. He has a willy flair to his character

I meant to go back on the Frost video and point out you missed her Deception lines, but at very least you remembered Tsung. Jason Kyson Lee was....pretty bad... Tagawa is the man though. He is definitively Shang Tsung.
MK11 definitely proved Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa does the best character even with age. He just has that calm and posh yet sinister voice that made his character the most enjoyable for me.
