Silverstone - F1000 Onboard - Race 1 - lockups and overtakes

  • My first time racing at Silverstone! Wow what a weekend this was. Testing on Friday was pouring rain through to sun and a bone dry track by the end of the day.
    I qualified P18/20 on Saturday which I was happy with, not being on the back row.
    The race went well, held my position on track even after locking up and going off the track into T3, got excited and got on the brakes too late. Conscious of the cost of these cars to myself, the team and other drivers, it's a fine line balancing confidence in yourself and the risk of emptying the racing fund during only the second race.
    Happy to finish the race P18 on track but P16 after penalties to other drivers. I can be faster though and will keep listening to the wise words of faster drivers (thank you, Tom Gadd) to improve.
    I'm learning a lot both on and off the track, editing "skills" are coming on a lot, so please enjoy the debut of the telemetry data to see speed and G force.

    It's amazing you were able to maintain control and keep up with the field honestly. Your suspension is so out of wack it's impressive you made it around the track. Your inside rear wheels are losing traction everywhere. Essentially you aren't getting power to the ground anywhere and you are riding on the outside tires. Usually a car would just spin out in that scenario but I guess your differential could be going bad. But if your differential is good and the tire spin was just a product of having the wrong springs and shock combo in the car.. You should feel satisfied that you were even able to drive it around the track😅 It was quite amazing to hear it like that driving straight lol.

      Hey man, thanks for the comment! Awesome feedback. How do you know all of this, you can see it just from the video?!
      What specifically was wrong with the suspension, you say shocks and springs? How can you tell?
      Out of the final corner before HAM Straight I kept getting wheelspin/slip, which at first I thought was my technique but after a while I started to think something was wrong with the rear.
      The next day, my throttle cable went wrong in race 2 which then caused a clutch issue for race 3. No power above 4k revs, engine would rev but no turn. Reckon this video makes sense with all of that happening after?

      @@ChapmansCorner so it's hard to say exactly without my butt in the seat you know but with the details you mentioned obviously you are having throttle cable problems. Right when you were going on to the main straight It just sounded like the RPMs were revving up at high G load or high speed turns so it didn't seem like the power was getting down. If it was and the RPMs were that high then you should be spinning in circles. But if you have a bad differential or if it is an open differential then it's kind of like a one tire fire where one inside wheel loses traction and it will burn all the way down the straight. They may have open differentials and if that's the case then you will probably need to either stiffen up the rear stabilizers or have a less aggressive shock rebound and a more aggressive shock compression so that the tires will have more of a tendency to stay down and not unload on the inside under high lateral forces

      @@ChapmansCorner so I would lower the rebound resistance and up the damping resistance on the rear And if that doesn't work, up the rear stabalizer. Will be a lot more loose and twitchy on the throttle but once you up the stabilizer in the rear and get the damping valving figured out you can take out some spring and soften the rear back up

      Congrats! I plan to do the same for next season. I’ve only done 2 races but it’s well run and great fun.
      I run with Team Sellars Racing who is recommend.
      Camera is GoPro 10, iMovie to edit and the Telemetry is goprotelemetryextractor
