Another thing that did me well: replace fuel filter and prime the fuel bowl with SeaFoam, all the way to the brim. Start the truck, run it for about 1 minute, and let sit as long as you can stand (8 months in my case). I got home from Iraq after not touching the truck for the better part of a year and she kicked over far faster than she did when I bought her. That was also when I was still running Shell Rotella T4 15W40.
I am 28 years young. I just started working on my first power stroke. it lasted 5 minutes before I gave up belly surfing the engine bay. I bought a top side creeper lol that damn engine is tucked back there compared to ole 12 valve cummins
At 1M, I would go ahead and drop a new engine in it honestly. Or better yet, run that block til it completely dies, and try to get Ford to put your engine in their museum in exchange for a new one.
273k miles ain't nothing. My truck had new injectors at 250k not because they were having problems, but because the previous owner wanted it to support a bigger turvo (which was never installed). Run Shell Rotella T6 5W40 with some Archoil and your truck will start just fine at 25 degrees. Mine used to not start at 50 or under, now she starts unassisted with a 20-30 degree oil temp.
OH SAY CAN YOU SEE!! DIESEL............. You had me at Star Spangled brother.. hope to see good stuff on here as Powerstroke is the only Diesel as far as I am concerned....????? ok maybe along with Detroit.............CAT..............??? MURICA!!!!!

Thanks, I'm getting ready to refresh my 240K 97 7.3 f350 which developed hard starting issue. I noticed you didn't change the glowplugs (why?). I like your oil plug drain tip (thanks). I've been doing some upgrades like DP & 4" exhaust, 6.0 trans-cooler, trans upgrade and accumulating parts for a major major upgrade, so while the hood's up this time the refresh will include- injectors, GP's, gaskets & wires, 66mm turbo, eFuel system upgrade, HPOP, PHP Hydra and oh yeah intercooler. Maybe I'll join you & post on TH-cam .........

What is the code for the check engine light? That could point you in the right direction.

very nice
Did the engine have excessive smoke or oil consumption prior to doing the replacements?
Hard start cold, and low power.
maybe disconnect the battery next time
Fact!
What injectors brand did you use?
High mileage! 😆😆😆

Glow plugs were already replaced, and tested before put back together.
Did you end up replacing the starter after that long ass crank!
