These games with old school graphics are my favourite. It takes a lot of skill to create an unsettling environment when you don't have realism to fall back on.
I totally agree my favourite horror series is Silent Hill and I was saying to a friend awhile ago how many horror games back on the PS2 actually made me more unsettled than nearly all modern day horror games with near photo realistic graphics, the hardware limitations of the time actually added to the atmosphere, I remember walking through Woodside Appartments playing on my small CRT TV and I actually had to pause the game to make a coffee and just take a moment before continuing as I was so immersed I was unsettled and anxious and I've never had that feeling playing modern horror games with realistic graphics
I think the old school graphics add to the creepiness. That's why it's so often used. There are far less creepy games that use high quality, realistic graphics in fact.
The Picture of Dorian Gray as a video game...with a mutant and copious human excreta?🤔🤢 It didn't scare me, make much sense to me, or have any real emotional impact on me. Best moment? I think you stole a pacemaker from the infirmary cabinet...and likely then depriving the old man of his needed medical device he was to have surgically implanted. So, in essence, the main character killed him.
This channel is my happy place; the content and atmosphere have gotten me through two major surgeries, a ton of grief and now grad school. So glad there’s so much good stuff here. ❤
I suppose this should be an introspective of Dorian Grey's famous painting, honestly love the movie, and the reference made in the Penny Dreadful Series. Oliver Wilde really got people thinking with his novel! It is fascinating how much Dorian took advantage of all life's bastardised pleasures after realising that it did not affect him physically, and how dark it got when he realised that the image of himself became more real than even he himself. Especially when society started to notice, and he became like a vampire, having to hide away what was before endless celebration of his beauty. And the release after the destruction of his visage, decayed and rotten from the chemicals and age it lived through. though he fought to keep it safe and hidden for so long, it was a burden he feared the most, and finally accepted death enveloped in fire with his portrait. Yeah, I don't think this game is a good reflection of the story, I can certainly see it's inspiration, just makes me want to watch the movie, show, or read the book again XD
Anyone remember this old game called Robinson's Requiem? It was an early attempt at survival fps, and you could lose an eye there. When you lost an eye, part of the screen would be filled with side view of your nose.
That kicked my @ss. As a person who's gone and going through it, damn. I've never been this desperate with it and I don't think I'll ever understand those who are. Because I'd rather be sick than ever hurt anyone to get what I want
Dev missed the mark on portraying addiction a bit. I was really trying to make sense of the symbolism but it just wasnt quite right. The general idea was correct though, the worse your addiction gets the more youll do to feed it and your values and standards you once had become less important.
Remember kids : drugs are bad, mmmkay? As for the game, I agree with what you said in your conclusion Chris : not bad, intriguing story, bit of a lack of depth.

Although it's about addiction & self-harm, I don't know if the developer actually went through such things themselves. Perhaps a relative or friend were the afflicted personnel & they were witnessing from the sidelines or from further away. There's not really any detail to the items etc. that would convey THEIR own journey. I don't wish anyone to go through such a thing themselves, but perhaps it would be more hard-hitting if it were created from an ex-substance (ab)user / self-harmer. That's just my opinion though and can be definitely told to shut up if it's not the case. The only issue is the cameras POV, yet that could signify being closed in. I don't really know what to make of it despite having trouble in both of those issues in the past (though NOT slicing my eyelids off!).
Your voice and even accent has gradually changed from your earlier videos, it's interesting how doing video's and reading out loud a lot, leads to a natural change.
This reminds me of that other game with the hole. The one where you're pretty much stuck in a time loop. What was it called? Still sad you never came back to explore it further. It was called the Heilwald Loophole.
Hm, yeah, i think I agree with you on this one. The graphics were quite good - especially the animated sections - and the stealth seemed like it could be pretty solid. however, the gameplay/challenge seemed to plateau after you had to get the scalpel and choose to get the anesthetics or not, and the story doesn't quite hit right on emotional beats/symbolism for me. I thought that choice of what you did with your friend would have more of an impact on the game, but it doesn't seem as though it does...? Still, with an eye for aesthetic, I think the dev could go somewhere, so hopefully they polish their weakpoints.

Will you ever play “welcome to Hanwell?” I know it’s not a new game and you don’t love open world horror games… but it’s not really necessarily since there’s a main mission… it’s just that you can explore the whole city and fight anomalies and discover different lure and stories in abandoned houses filled with monsters and spirits … discovering some wild scenes in the basements of businesses and stuff like that. I’m sure it will be easy for you and not as scary as it is for me… but when I hear static on the radio which means an anomaly is around I become so terrified bc you can’t see them until they want you to lol there’s weapons all over the ground for all the combat with the monsters and there’s an arena… it’s def got some faults but it was fun to explore everything in all the buildings and find out how it got that way. You played the demo and I know everyone was asking for you to play the full game. It def has parts that remind me of outlast and even a bit like sinking city … but still kinda fun and you love the quest and to explore as much as I do… so just figured I’d ask !

A scalpel is one take on a "silver dagger" Idk why the Portrait of Dorian Gray (in shortened version) is there, some in the other comments think it's somewhat used as allegory in the game, but for me it's a book the protagonist read and in the self hatered way started to recontextualize the book as it relates to himself- as in a delirious thinking that every story close to how you feel about yourself is directed at you. As for the "Friend" and Monster- first one is the drugs, not just a dealer, but drug as a character whole, I think, the monster is either withdrawal or the want to be stopped by external force. And yeah, I agree with the fact that the dev missed some marks, in addition the game is way too formulaic so hopefully they gonna get something like that more tries to iron out their usage of metaphores. Also- you stole that old man's pacemaker (someone already mentioned that in one comment), and organ you took from him might have been a kidney, I am fkin suprised this was the first thing you stole from the man as more "logical" turn would be to steal his pacemaker first and then his organs.

The best way to fight addiction is self discipline. Telling yourself no I'm not going to destroy myself anymore and understanding why certain things are not benefiting you but harming you internally.

Im the dev, and I'll tell you why, the answer is simplicity, making games is tough task, it takes months if not years, personally, while balancing work and life I took 18 months to finish the cost of bliss, to get realistic graphics I would hev to either spend more money on assets, turning the game into a souless asset flip, or hiring an artist making the game cost much more than 3$. Plus this style works great for horror and allows me to focus of story, atmosphere and gameplay. Another bonus is imagination, low res graphics gives the player a window for it's imagination to fill the gaps,not entirely like a book, but closer. This allows your brain to feel more than see. There is a deep science in game development and it's ever evolving. Stay tuned.

I never read Dorian Grey but always meant to, this was a good synopsis though. Quite frankly, I rarely read anymore, I find listening more engaging
