    SG+ is the pinnacle of HO chassis design to date. That's why Viper went with their basic design.
    That said, my next love is the Tyco 440x2. I really like working on them. They aren't the easiest car to work on and they are a little flexible (I avoid the narrow and stick with the wide chassis) but they are primed for lots of different kinds of custom mods and they can rival the speed and handling of a modded SG+ with the right changes.

      Thanks! I have a few 442x2 cars and do agree they are right up there with the SG+ in speed and handling.

      440X2 narrow chassis started with a stiff black plastic chassis. Not that easy to find those but I have a half dozen. So if you go stronger than level 4 magnets use those. Usually when I upgrade an X2 narrow gray chassis to compete with SG+ I just use stronger motor magnets and much better rear tires. The gray chassis can handle it but I do make sure everything is just right. A couple little "tricks" but a stock SG+ chassis isn't hard to beat. Granted that the early production SG+ is better than what came after. SG+, Viper and G3 are my favorite chassis for going fast but its easy and cheap to build an X2.

    Learning a lot on your channel! I started out as a very young boy in the mid 70's with AFX cars and track. Always reminds me of Christmas! I bought my 11-year-old son the AFX International
    set for Christmas last year, and we set it out again this year. Sparked my interest again! It is so much fun and the cars hang on much better than when I was a kid. We were constantly flying off the track! I recently purchased 4 more collector series clear mega g+ old school muscle cars for us to race, 1970 Corvette LT1, 70' Mustang Boss 302, 70'ish Camaro SS 396 and the Mario Andretti yellow Ford GT that's in your collection. We haven't got them yet, but they look really sharp. Thanks for sharing your knowledge, information on AFX cars seems sparse as far as I can tell.
    Great Videos!

    I have a lot of memories with AFX from the mid 70's to the early 80s...but, my favorite chassis would be the Super G Plus 2nd Generation. That chassis design set the standards and the Tyco 440 chassis....light, great magnet placement and fast

    Awesome video! Have you tried the Aurora Thunderjet chassis? I remember being a kid and my first cars were AFX magnatractions and I loved them (and still are my favorite!). One day I rode my bike to the hobby store and picked up a couple of nonmagnatractions that were on sale. I thought something was wrong with them until I discovered the differences. They offered a much different racing experience and I eventually fell in love with them too. The Thunderjets are pretty similar. A great change of pace to the others, and fantastic if you have a handful to race on a four-lane track.

    You may notice that the original Mega G chassis is a lot like a LL M chassis. And the old Aurora G Plus. Mega G is practically the same design but with traction magnets. LL M chassis dominated HOPRA in it's day. All the different chassis have good points and some have a downside. LL M, it's the front axle and flux collector. Stock SG+ (aside from the long run of crack prone plastic) it's the rear wheel/tire setup. MG it's the junk axle assemblies. Tyco (not Mattel) didn't really have any issues, although the crown gear was weak if you upgraded the motor or traction magnets. Stock LL and Tyco perform much better with better rear tires but SG+ with better rear wheels and tires is the easy way to go fast. As simple as swapping in an SRT rear axle assembly and some good silicones. For that matter a stock SRT with silicone rear tires is probably going to outperform an SG+ on most home tracks. MG and MG+ need both front and rear axle assemblies replaced since their wheels almost always have a bad wobble.

    • @marksslotcargarage
      @marksslotcargarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Jeff all great info, many of these point I am well aware of specially on all the AFX chassis with is where most of my knowledge is. I agree with you on the SRT, I only have one SRT which is stock other than better rear silicone tires and it does run as well as if not better than any of my other AFX chassis that are close to stock. SG+/Viper/BSRT G3 ares my current favorites, along with my Magnatraction (what I raced as a kid) collection. I am having fun discovering other chassis's like the Life Like M/T. TYCO I knew of just never had many, if fact when I was a kid if you had TYCO you were the enemy...lol

    i have 3 mega g+ cars and was wondering what i could do to upgrade them if possible. im new to slot cars and do not know much right now. i saw a couple of videos and am thinking a different remote is my next step or, more track since i only have a 8 ft crazy 8 track ( the infinity raceway) so more track or a new remote? and what remote do you recommend that i get to start. i found the one remote you said you like a lot in one of your other videos but i want to spend a little less on one. im not looking to have anything with breaks so i would only need one with a sensitivity option. and how would you recommend keeping all of the track segments from popping apart or having gaps between them?

    • @marksslotcargarage
      @marksslotcargarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Jager, check out my video on my Mega G + setup, I have found that setup really gets the cars down lower and really improved performance. Are a minimum you will want to upgrade the rear tires on the Mega G + to a better silicon tire. If you are mostly running Mega G + cars you will need a higher Ohm controller, check out the DS line of controllers, they are decent and less money. I have not had issue with the newer AFX track sections coming apart, are your sections damaged? If your cars are making them come apart you can try turning down the voltage on the track to slow the cars down.

    • @timmccartney6078
      @timmccartney6078 ปีที่แล้ว

      If your cars are pulling the curves apart and you have your layout on a table or a board., you can use tacks or brad nails to put around the outside the curves to keep them together. Some of the tracks have holes to put small nails or flat head screws in them.
