    The Aurora magnatraction cars are the best quality cars. The other cars are cheap copys.Ive been racing since 1969 and the Aurora cars are way better.

    Yeah, like someone else said, if you are comparing timed runs do them without Bods or use the same Bod to keep things equal. More important, use the same Rear tires since a slight diff in size, smoothness, traction can make a huge diff in times. Great Vid tho and nice tip on the tire tape. I have to agree with you on the height of the AW bodies they are too high and they look like 4 wheel drive to me. I would like to know what is their logic for making bodies with a high center of gravity, clearly that's not good for handling. The tires and wheels are horrible! I think the Magna traction is made with a better quality plastic and the wheels are definitely better. The Datsun body is a much better racing body than the AW variants. I disagree on the speed I find the AW's run faster than the magna tractions when you get rid of the crappy stock tires. I'm not a fan of the Xtractions I think the magnet on one side affects the handling. I do like the Johnny Lightning chassis somewhat.

    If you worked on those other two cars like you worked on that AFX Aurora it would probably run just as good or faster

    I've been racing for 45yrs and the Afx magnatraction chassis is the best pan motor chassis. The mean green motors are of much better quality also.I had both but only race and mod Afx magnatraction.I have some magnatraction cars with quadralam motors that are faster than my Gplus cars.

    I'm probably gonna ge ge hate for this, but I take the autoworld thunder-jets and the autoworld xtraction, and take off the motor plate and hit the little traction magnet out from the inside and pop it out. I then run them just as a overpowered old school aurora. I'm a fan of the slip and slide fun over the stuck like glue.

      Completely agreed! i absolutely loved the "old" style regular racing and the enjoyment it brought, compared to the "new" (fangled) magnetized robot racing. There's just no comparison. One is like real driving and the other is just plain boring and silly! Lost my attention long ago.

    I think a all out build video on an xtraction could be interesting. Address and upgrade the problem areas. Axel Wheels tires magnets and so on. Let's see what they can really do with the right amount of attention. I'm considering getting back into the hobby. I have no interest in buying old stuff off eBay from unknown sellers. The AW line is appealing to me because it's currently being produced and readily available at my local hobby lobby. There's also an added amount of satisfaction when you can tinker and increase the performance and handling from what it was out of the packaging.

    for those who may not be aware, the early AUTO WORLD Xtractions had no ULTRA G moniker or dot neo magnet - Originals can be identified by the regular width ski type pickup shoes -- for about the first 4 releases. The top plate clips on both were bent incorrectly at the factory to fit way too tight- and should be rebent to fit not as tight as that can have an effect on performance at times. An AFX top plate fits perfectly in the JL & AW, that I tried and the JL and AW fit tightly into the AFX T chassis but AW was tighter. The main reason the JL and AW are much faster and handel better most times is due to the much stronger motor magnets. If you put that same strength magnets in the AFX, hold on for the same ride once they are tuned to the track and have good silicones on. good video.

    I made a "power station" controlled by an old Aurora steering wheel type controller for working on/tuning/lapping gears/true-ing wheels/tires, etc. It controls on/off, speed, and forward/reverse. Along with having stands to securely hold chassis in place, small alligator clips are clamped onto pickup shoes for power. I power up the chassis with tires removed and lathe the rear wheels as true as I can with the flat edge of a #11 Exacto blade. SuperTires are my favorite and stay on tight. SuperTires AFX .474" are my first choice on the Magnatraction type cars but they also make an AFX .490" for cars that are slightly too low (rarely the case) and drag the track as a result. I was thinking that a pickup shoe adjustment would probably help your cars make it through the hairpins(?) I realize the video is old but I just started watching them. Long live the pancakes!

    100% agree with you. My first slot car set was the magna traction flame throwers (gone...sniff...). I got my son the Super Coupes set and bought some old magna traction cars as well as an Autoworld x-traction. The old Aurora cars are much smoother and quieter. Though when I trued up the tires on the x-traction it did run a good bit better. I really enjoy the magna traction cars as they are a good middle point between the t-jets and the later cars with stronger traction magnets.

  • @takeuchitb007
    @takeuchitb007 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The Xtraction Ultra G's can go through AFX Hairpins no problem, it's just the pickup shoes need to be slightly bent down away from the front. Unhook the front of the shoes and slightly bend the front of the shoe down. We run the Autoworld cars through AFX hairpins with no issue...the Tjet 500 will go through the hairpins no issue with the old style guide pin that puts the pin further back versus close to the body screw like the new tjet guide pins.

    I continue to be amazed at your boundless enthusiasm! It might have been useful to do the on-track comparison with the same body, or with no body. The footage of the cars on the dyno tells a lot of the story. One of the first things I do with the AW cars is pop out the traction magnet. You can always put them back in. You needed to have the boys play hooky to marshal for you! Excellent report!

  • @rwahoo

    Hello, Like the track layout , Except for those hairpins, those thing are brutal, I had them on my layout years ago .Took mine out just way too much marshaling IMO.. Keep your Videos coming good work ..

      I had too many cars complain with the hairpins, and they're not particularly fair in a 4-lane layout so I refuse to use them.

    im 53 and have been racing magnatraction for 40 years,,,,, my take on the 3 are that the magnatraction car is made the best and the avg magnatraction will beat the avg JL car BUT when it comes to JL , if you own enough of them you will find some gems that will be just as good as your best magnatraction cars. As for the UltraG I have a few that no magnatraction can keep up with even with stock autoworld tires. That extra magnet is just enough to over power my magnatraction and JL cars in the corners, so I dont race them against each other, its unfair

    I agree with the high mounts. You would think that they would pay attention to more detail?? I wish that the cars were still made by Aurora.. If I was a manufacturer I'd make them just like the old ones. They were great. Unfortunately were stuck with auto world. Speaking of Auto World, every single Ultra G car that I've bought has a terrible lose rear-end!! Glad I have a peener!! I have to send them an email and ask what's up with that?? Good video..

    oddly i've been switching some of my old magna traction chassis cars with the AW chassis and they been running better on my hybrid track of LifeLike and Tyco. They tend to slide less and go fast and handle better. I do like the Aurora and AFX stuff but for some reason the AW Chassis have been matched nice for my track.
